U21s defeated at Tranmere

After an impressive 100% record in their first six pre-season games of 2015, Everton U21s fell at the final hurdle, losing 3-1 to their local rivals at Prenton Park on Wednesday evening, despite an early goal from Tom Davies.

Everton's second string opened the scoring when Rovers goalkeeper Scott Davies stopped a shot from Michael Donohue and Tom Davies fired into the open net.

Tranmere levelled on 23 minutes, though when Margetts, a summer triallist who had only arrived at Prenton Park this past week wrong-footed Mateusz Hewelt and slotted home.

The match was then turned on its head when Cole Stockton powered in a header from a corner and Tranmere went into the interval 2-1 ahead.

Donohue almost equalised shortly after half time but his shot clipped the outside of the upright before Tranmere padded their lead.

Stockton turned provider to lay the ball off to Margetts who struck a poweful shot high into the net.

Hewlett prevented Margetts from grabbing a hat-trick later on while the Blues went close when substitute Liam Walsh’s forced the home 'keeper to push his free kick over the bar and Conor Grant fired a good chance wide

Everton U21s: Hewlett; Jones, Robinson, Ledson (62' Walsh), Pennington, Connolly, Grant, Williams (62' Charsley), Henen (31' Dyson), Davies, Donohue.

I wonder if any of our lads will be getting game time in the first team this season?
