Ronald Koeman will sign a new two-year contract at St Mary's Stadium after being offered improved terms with Southampton according to a report, forcing Everton to look elsewhere for a successor to Roberto Martinez.

The Dutchman is believed to be have been high on the Blues' list of preferred managerial candidates and the Goodison hierarchy were hopeful of being able to tempt him to Merseyside with a big transfer war chest and the job of reviving a sleeping giant.

A report in The Mirror suggests, however, that Koeman's new agent, Rob Jansen, has secured him an attractive new £2.5m p/a contract with Southampton that will see him extend his stay on the south coast for two years beyond the expiration of his current deal next summer.

With Saints having finished 6th in the Premier League and qualified for Europe again, Koeman looks set to continue the good work he has accomplished so far in two seasons with the club.
