Housekeeping Thread
By Lyndon Lloyd 11/10/2023
A number of issues with the site came up in one of the news threads so I thought it would be useful to move the related comments over here to address them and allow others to report bugs and issues they are experiencing on the site. There is usually quite a few so feel free to report them below.

Dave @51
Lyndon gave you some advice on how to deal with your login issues on the thread you originally voiced your annoyance. I can't remember which thread it was now, perhaps you've already seen it.

Barry,
Thanks very much for taking the trouble to try and help me out but I'm bleedin' useless with technology, it doesn't mention clearing on an iPad.
I'll wait ‘til my grandson comes in, he might understand it, he's bought the house next door to me, honestly, most probably because he was fed up with me asking him to do this and that with my iPad. Unfortunately he can't escape me, I think him and partner are considering emigration!
Thanks again, Barry.

Dave, I've updated the instructions on that page to include iPads and iPhones. I'm not sure if it will fix your issue but it's worth a try.
Nothing has changed in the way ToffeeWeb functions in this respect so it could something specific to your device. It might also be worth getting your son to check that your settings around accepting cookies haven't changed.

Lyndon (60),
Sincere thanks Lyndon for your help but my grandson came in from work and sorted it out, I'd inadvertently cocked it up myself by knocking one spot then going onto the private column, this was yesterday afternoon but it seems to be running okay now.
What a grandson, pulled some faces like while he fixed my mess, I pulled tongues at him behind my newspaper, but all's well that ends well.
Thanks again, Lyndon and Barry.

Lyndon, every time I clear cache, I have to log back onto everything, including TW, The Everton club website and Fantasy football league. Having done all this, I then keep on getting “Accept Cookiesâ€, which obviously builds up again. It's a right pain in the rear!!
Jay, I get that as well!!

Jay (6), I've been meaning to fix that for ages and I think I just have. The page should now route you back to wherever you were after a few seconds.
Rob (7), when you clear your cache, all the data (i.e. cookies) that the TW server needs to identify you gets deleted so, yes, you have to start from scratch.
If you're clearing your cache because of problems you're experiencing on TW specifically:
a) Let me know what they are here
b) You can use the help page to find out how to only remove the cookies and browsing data related to ToffeeWeb so you don't have to lose all your settings for all websites

Lyndon, a few weeks back my IPad was really slow, but only when accessing TW. Sometimes I would only get half a page, the other half completely blank. It took ages when refreshing a page. Every other website I viewed was fine.
I asked on here if anyone else was experiencing the same problem, and I was advised to clear cache. I did this, and everything seemed fine, just that I had to log on to every website that required an email and password if I wanted to post or update anything, such as TW and FFL.
Then obviously I needed to accept cookies, and therefore my iPad slowed down again, but this only happened when viewing TW. I was constantly clearing cache and having to use my email address and password to log on again. I tried what you posted to Dave A earlier on, and surprise surprise, I've had to log on to various websites again.

I've had the problem of only half a page loading up and it taking ages to type comment. Every word lags by a good 30 seconds, if not more.
But sometimes, like this, it works perfectly fine.

Lee, that was another problem I had………..a typed word, or words, weren't showing, then all of a sudden the whole sentence would appear.

Same issues here as Lee and Rob, although this week the typing is better and the words come in real time.

As a contributor of impeccable opinion I've never had any TW-site problems.
So there!

I still get the problem that I don't get the full picture on the thread headings on the home page.
For example the picture of the four people holding the Euros banner at BMD had only three people. And the picture of DCL has his left arm chopped off.

And now when I tap the TW banner at the top of this page it doesn't return me to the home page.

A lot of the aforementioned issues could be based on where you live, speed of internet, ad blockers, etc. If they're not universal, it suggests the site in andof itself is not the issue.
However, the main problem I have with ToffeeWeb – and it's been like this since I very first started using the site back in the Walter Smith days – is that if I'm unable to watch a game I check for the post match review and about 50 percent of the time it says we lost.
Before the internet era in the 80s I never had this issue checking Ceefax or waiting for the Sunday papers. Generally, they would say we'd won and show a league table where we were in first or second place.
It may be an algorithm thing or something but it's been an ongoing issue on ToffeeWeb for decades. But if you could take a look at it and produce reports showing the kind of results we had in the mid to late 80s I think that would be a huge improvement.

Kieran, the last time Everton won a trophy, I had to wait until the following Monday to find out the result which was published in the local English language newspaper.
Times have changed but these remain ‘first world' problems. Nothing to get our knickers in a twist about.

Rob: "

If you only deleted the cookies/data related to ToffeeWeb, that shouldn't happen. Only if you cleared all browsing data.
Lee: "I've had the problem of only half a page loading up and it taking ages to type comment. Every word lags by a good 30 seconds, if not more. But sometimes, like this, it works perfectly fine."
I've heard that from a few people recently but have never experienced it myself. If it happens again, could you (or anyone else having this issue) make a note of what kind of article you were on? For example, a News, Editorial or Fan Article as opposed to a General Forum or Talking Points item like this one?
