Jarrad Branthwaite has been named in the England squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League games.
The Everton centre-back makes his return for England for the autumn fixtures against Spain, Czechia and Croatia, following a strong start to the season at club level.
The 24-year-old is one of five central defensive options selected by Thomas Tuchel, alongside Ezri Konsa, Marc Guehi, Trevoh Chalobah, and Jarell Quansah. Branthwaite will be hoping to add to his sole senior cap, earned against Bosnia and Herzegovina in June 2024.
Branthwaite has been a central figure in Everton's unbeaten start to the Premier League season, leading all centre-backs in the division for shots blocked per 90 minutes, and ranking third for percentage of aerial duels won.
Branthwaite joins Jordan Pickford in the group, where the goalkeeper will look to add to his 91 caps for the Three Lions. Ex-Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin is also selected after three goals in four league games for Leeds United this season.

If he can stay fit, I see him establishing himself at England as first choice next to Guehi while at Everton, then he'll be off, with Man City or Arsenal my guess.
This is one we need to plan for, to get the maximum return, he'd probably have gone to Man Utd if it wasn't for his injury... they were talking £60M then: double that!

A fit season it's got to be £100M plus.
Good thing is he has another four years left on his contract. We are within our rights to say to him next Summer, here is a new contract and put a £150M clause in there, then say to him give us another year and we will look at it then.
We need to add more to build a team around him.

Why do we always have to sell. The top clubs never sell their top players they keep them until they are knackered and then put them out to graze.

For me, it has to be £200M minimum. He can play centre-back for the next 10 years and will get better as he gets older and wiser. That's £20M a season. As someone once said that's chicken feed these days for the very top teams.
He will win the Champions League and the League Championship he ends up in, on numerous occasions. He will also in my opinion captain his country and win 100 caps easily, he's that good.

Deserves his England call up, but be careful with his minutes!
Regarding his value, TFG will try and sell him in a cut price deal, like they did with Ndiaye. Branthwaite has a big contract, but I hope he stays for at least two more years, and there's very few stand-out left-sided centre-backs apart from Jarrad.

Whoa, steady there, Jack. He is very, very good, but it is bold to predict what he will become -- so many uncertainties along the way.
I agree with Mark that, as fans, we should not be thinking of selling our best players as soon as they start playing consistently.
I wish our owners were as cut-throat as Nottingham Forest's. He refused to sell their best player, Morgan Gibbs-White even though an offer of £80M came in from one of the Big 6.

A fit Branthwaite is an England player there's no doubt, but he has plenty competition, Tuchel will probably ease him in slowly.
The problem is from our point of view as soon as we have players that reach a very good level the usual suspects come in wanting to buy them.
All our younger players will be getting attention, George is starting to look like a top player in the making to me. Obviously Branthwaite is, Armstrong, Hackney even though we only paid £14M I think, Garner, Dibling if he keeps improving will all be on their radar.
Unless the club says there no one leaving we want Champions League football we will never get there. The players might not like it but I think it's the only way.

The Super League has been brought in by stealth with the new Champions League format and SCR rules, they've done their best to make sure it is a closed shop and to make it nigh on impossible for other clubs to compete (just look at Villa and Newcastle for proof).
Clubs are no longer allowed to build teams around their best talent, these players must be sold to the ‘established' clubs... Makes you wonder what the point of it all is, the whole sorry charade is a fix.

If Everton are claiming to be a big club, which they are not, then they need to stop selling their best players, it is as simple as that.
Though it will not be easy if the player wants out, eg, Iliman Ndiaye). But at least just try.

What the hell does Tuchel see in Rashford? Apart from his breakout season when nobody knew him, he has done nothing since and has been absolute garbage in Man Utd's last two games.
Of course, being an England squad, it has to include Man Utd players and Mainoo gets in as well, ahead of Garner?
I, too would prefer Jarrad not to be included yet because of this last injury problem which he may still be recovering from.

Good news for Branthwaite; bad news for Everton. On the one hand, his market value will go up, but not by enough to put off the big money boys. It is more likely that the Friedkins will inevitably be unable to resist putting him up for sale, like so many others before him.

Will he succumb and go for the big bucks? Who knows?
Watching Man City last weekend, it was noticeable to see Ndiaye on the bench and only brought on as a substitute with a matter of minutes left on the clock; it would be even worse for Branthwaite to be similarly employed.

If Moyes was in charge of who comes and goes, I'd have no doubt we'd play hardball and not release him for less than £100M. With the Friedkins, who knows?
They may see £50M as good business. That's the infuriating thing, they don't understand footy, and they have elevated people like Kinnear, who also don't understand footy.

Let's be honest about it. Football has become a market place, a business in which buying and selling and making deals and lots of money predominates. Players are merely commodities and fans don't matter that much any more. Why else would the Friedkins ignore the Club that they bought and leave it in the hands of subordinates to look after?
It may be harsh to admit it but the loathsome Jason Cundy is correct to say what he did, but seriously at fault, even stupid in the way that he personalised and insulted the Club and the players. All it achieved was to confirm what an ignorant and ill-mannered boor he really is.
