Disclaimer Mike Oates 1 Posted 19/02/2013 at 15:42:46 Absolutely great, was at a function on Wed 27th Feb, so I can watch it now; for once, well done TV! Brian Murray 2 Posted 19/02/2013 at 15:48:56 How much is it worth to Everton getting shown live on TV? James O'Connell 3 Posted 19/02/2013 at 15:56:55 Oldham deserved a replay and payday; I'm confident we will smash them this time though. Eugene Ruane 4 Posted 19/02/2013 at 16:15:52 James (809) - Why?(not saying we'll lose, simply interested in the reason/s for your confidence). Michael Kenrick 5 Posted 19/02/2013 at 16:18:27 We could indeed 'smash them', as James predicts... but surely the likelihood is that it will be a hard-fought game, with Oldham doing their utmost to protect a 100-year record of not having lost to Everton in the FA Cup. I've always hated the idea of predicting the results, which is odd because my old man was a racing/betting addict. Maybe a case of teenage rebellion there? But surely it could go either way? Tim Locke 6 Posted 19/02/2013 at 16:23:27 Eugene – you would like to think a better pitch will allow us to get the ball down and pass and move. They are very Route One and if Matt Smith starts then I can only see that increasing. There is no reason we shouldn't be able to deal with that and create a lot of opportunities. Gutted it's been moved to Tuesday as I'm now out; have to have a sneaky look at the phone. James O'Connell 7 Posted 19/02/2013 at 16:19:16 Hi EugeneIn the words of the X-files 'I want to believe' Paul David 8 Posted 19/02/2013 at 16:33:21 I expect us to at least try play football but we'll still see plenty of hoooooofs and of course Phil 'given away by' Neville will be playing. James O'Connell 9 Posted 19/02/2013 at 16:39:36 But it could be a close encounter.... Kevin Tully 10 Posted 19/02/2013 at 16:41:24 Off topic- 3/1 for Arsenal looks a steal to me. Ray Roche 11 Posted 19/02/2013 at 17:05:45 Eugene@812.I wouldn't say that we'll "smash" them but I am fairly confident that we will win. But if I were an Oldham fan I'd be pissed off with my team. If they can raise their game, not once, against the Shite, but also against us, then why are they 4th from bottom of League One? They MUST have more in their locker than they are showing in the day to day world of League One otherwise they'd be in a play-off place, at least judging by the way they have performed in their last two Cup games. I know teams from lower leagues like to put on a show against top sides but to do it twice makes you think that they could do a lot more to improve their position in their own league. Whether or not they can come to Goodison and do it all again remains to be seen. I hope not.... Tony Hanlon 12 Posted 19/02/2013 at 17:23:09 ITV confirm Everton / Oldham v Wigan live Sat 9th March 12.45PM Gavin Ramejkis 13 Posted 19/02/2013 at 17:29:54 Gutted, working in Scotland, was remote chance I could have been back for the Weds night and worked Thursday and Friday locally, some chance now Eugene Ruane 14 Posted 19/02/2013 at 17:35:25 Ray (822) - You say.."If they can raise their game, not once, against the Shite, but also against us, then why are they 4th from bottom of League One? They MUST have more in their locker than they are showing in the day to day world of League One otherwise they'd be in a play-off place, at least judging by the way they have performed in their last two Cup games"An interesting observation and one that was more stridently pointed out in the 70s by former Millwall player Eamon Dunphy in his entertaining book (diary) 'Only A Game'.In his opinion, such players were 'cheats'.If I remember correctly, he was talking about some lower league team had beaten (then top team) Leeds and how everyone was happy as Leeds were a 'team of cheats'.In Dunphy's opinion, it was not Leeds who were cheats but the lower league team - his reasoning being that if you could could raise your game for one week, to beat Leeds, on all the other weeks you were cheating.True Dunphy (particularly in his pundit role on RTE) often looks to be controversial but there is an undeniable a logic to it.It's certainly more interesting than anything that has or ever will be uttered by Shearer. As for the replay, if we don't keep hold of the ball, or rather if we continue to give it away in the manner we have been recently, I think we'll lose.If we have the ball and we keep it, we'll win.To lose this game, KNOWING as we do what their 'plan' will be (ie: flinging as many high balls as they can at an overactive pituitary gland) will be a disgrace. Roman Sidey 15 Posted 19/02/2013 at 17:52:47 Tim Locke, we've barely been able to keep the ball down and pass and move ourselves this season, and we don't defend hoofing well either, so why will those automatically improve in this game? That said, I think we will win, but it won't be the walk in the park that Cheltenham was. No, at Everton we like to do things the hard way, so will be surprised if we win by more than a goal. Ray Roche 16 Posted 19/02/2013 at 18:18:06 Eugene@831Very true, Eugene, I haven't read Dunphy's book but, as you point out, there IS a logic to it. If we don't finish Oldham off comfortably by half time it will be shameful. Chris Wilkinson 17 Posted 19/02/2013 at 21:29:22 Damn, here I was praising my luck that the game was on a Wednesday, and that I'd be able to watch it and then this happens. Andy Peers 18 Posted 19/02/2013 at 21:36:22 With Moyes not deciding his future with us until the Summer, would it be fair enough to sack him if we don't beat Oldham at home? To me that would be fair. Dominic Bobadilla 19 Posted 19/02/2013 at 21:41:08 Andy Peers: we probably cannot afford to sack him. Instead of sacking him outright, the board could make a move which Moyes would view as an attempt at undermining his authority. For instance, the board could make a temporary appointment which would interfere directly with Moyes's tasks at the club. I see nothing objectionable about such an action on the part of board. Moyes is looking after himself and contemplating his own future; would it be unfair if the club did the same? Patrick Murphy 20 Posted 19/02/2013 at 21:48:05 Dominic that view would only add to the confusion, it's obvious due to the lack of public dialogue that Bill Kenwright wants David Moyes to stay, for obvious reasons. David Moyes holds all the cards. The club could ask DM to go on gardening leave but that would be tantamount to sacking him. With regards to Oldham next Tuesday, if the team can't lift their game for the FA Cup with a real possibility of playing at Wembley at least once then they are seriously lacking. I have known many Everton teams with only a fraction of the ability of this current Everton side and they always believed they could beat anyone in the FA Cup even if at times that was a little delusional. I hope Goodison is up for it as much as if they were playing under the lights against United or Liverpool. Forget the Moyes situation and get behind the team, it might be our best chance to win a trophy for some time. Ian Allaker 21 Posted 19/02/2013 at 21:57:19 Ye lets make Everton a circus and risk distracting the team some more just to get rid of Moyes. Lets put our hatred of Moyes before our Love for the club, that makes sense. Brendan McLaughlin 22 Posted 19/02/2013 at 22:02:42 Dominic #878What planet are you on? The only thing the Board are likely to do is bend over a little bit more... John Crawley 23 Posted 19/02/2013 at 22:03:44 Ian - not a big fan of Moyes but have to agree with you. Absolutely ridiculous comment, if nothing else he deserves to see out his contract properly. I still have a hope that he will bow out with the FA cup! Nick Entwistle 24 Posted 19/02/2013 at 22:08:38 6th place and skint, sack the manager? Dominic Bobadilla 25 Posted 19/02/2013 at 22:01:45 Ian Allaker: all clubs do things this way. Backbiting and conspiracies are part of life at any big football club, or in any sizable organisation for that matter. Platitudes like love for the club and nation count for nothing. Love exists between men and birds and has nothing whatsoever to do with the matter on hand.Brendan McLaughlin: what makes you think that the board is bending over for Moyes? My personal theory is that the board is expecting Moyes to take a pay-cut; something Moyes will be unwilling to do. I find it absolutely ridiculous that an advocate of hoofball earns more money than the likes Joachim Löw and Antonio Conte. Offer him the same amount as Pardew is getting at Newcastle; if he does not like it, he can go back to Preston, Glasgow, or whereever he wants. Chester Barnes 26 Posted 19/02/2013 at 22:33:15 Very true, this tie could go either way! Usually does in football. Especially in replays!!! Andy Peers 27 Posted 19/02/2013 at 22:46:26 In my opinion Moyes is not content with the board and probably sick of it. I can understand that 100%. The reason I think he should be fired is that if he can't lift us to a victory over Oldham, then he is absolutely no use to us anymore. With a loss at home to a low league team and our only chance of a trophy, then motivating us for a European place would be a no go. James Flynn 28 Posted 20/02/2013 at 01:13:39 I expect Oldham to be thrashed next Tuesday. Regarding the FA Cup as instrumental Moyes re-signs or goes? He's already gone. The last transfer window showed so. He and ownership are keeping his departure on the up-n-up. Correctly.COYB! Tim Locke 29 Posted 20/02/2013 at 10:19:17 Roman Sidey - not sure what you have been watching; in my opinion and that of many other both in and outside Everton we have been playing good, attactive football most of the time. Not all games but most. On top of that we have been winning, so if you look at 2012 as a whole we sit 3rd in overall rankings. Patrick Murphy 30 Posted 20/02/2013 at 10:50:47 You are correct that 2012 was a reasonably good year, trouble is Tim we are now in 2013 and so far the performances have been mostly lukewarm. Harold Matthews 31 Posted 21/02/2013 at 14:38:49 Their young left wing flyer murdered Neville last time and Jags will have to be on full alert.
