Reports: Everton reach deal for McGeady

Updated Everton are on the verge of signing Aiden McGeady, either on a pre-contract with a view to joining the club on a free transfer in the summer or permanently this week, depending on which report you believe.

Roberto Martinez denied this morning that anything had been concluded and refused to be drawn on the status of another club's player, but the Daily Mail claim that McGeady has signed an agreement with the Blues Everton that will see him join on a free transfer in the summer, while Alan Nixon in The Mirror suggests he is set for a medical today and could be in the squad to face Norwich this weekend.

The 27 year-old was already deemed surplus to requirements at Spartak Moscow, who put him up for sale a couple of months ago in the hope of getting a fee for him during this month's transfer window.

Martinez has long been an admirer of the former Celtic winger and reputedly tried to sign him for Wigan before he opted for the Russian League. Though the neither report is not conclusive proof, it looks as though he has got his man this time, either in time to bolster the squad in this window or for next season.

It is believed that McGeady has signed an agreement to sign in the summer but Everton are trying to thrash out a deal with Spartak to bring him in this month instead.
