A giant of English football pulls off a miracle

It is 20 years to the day since Everton pulled off one of the most remarkable comebacks in the club's history, recovering from 2-0 down — a deficit almost entirely of their own making — to beat Wimbledon 3-2 in THAT game and preserve their top flight status.

It remains the only time in the Premier League era that the Blues have come back to win from two goals down and it prolonged the club's unmatched number of seasons in the top division of English football.

Of course, fans who had seen their team's post-Heysel fall from grace would be put through the ringer four years later when, once again, they went into the last day of the season with Everton's top-flight future in grave danger. A dramatic 1-1 draw with Coventry — not to mention some help from Chelsea against Bolton at Stamford Bridge — would ensure that the Blues' would remain an ever-present in the Premier League, though, a distinction they continue to hold along with six other clubs.
