Garbutt starts in England U21s win

Luke Garbutt was included in the starting line-up for England U21s must-win game against Sweden, which ended 1-0 to the Three Lions after Jesse Lingard's strike.

The Everton fullback's corner was punched out by the Swedish 'keeper to the Manchester United forward and he converted the only goal of the game.

England needed a positive result after losing their opening match of the tournament in the Czech Republic 1-0 to Portugal and went into today's game bottom of Group B.

Sweden's 2-1 victory over Italy has exposed the Three Lions to the possibility of being eliminated with just two matches played if they lost but a win puts them back in contention with just the Italians to play on Wednesday.

Interestingly the Echo article saying Garbutt will sign a new five year deal disappeared as a headline story on their internet site shortly after being posted.

And now itÂ’s back! A backtrack on the backtrack!!

Hope itÂ’s true.

Sensible deal for all parties if true.

Important to have him signed up! Sorts out our LB position long term without the capex investment... Galloway clearly a future partner to Stones. So itÂ’s more important than ever to keep our kids!

Let him go out on loan for a season. Alternate Baines and Oviedo at LB/LM and everyone will be happy.

Wasn't impressed with him today. Wasted many balls with his poor delivery. Defended well enough though.
