Under-21s' pre-season continues with another win

Everton U21s kept their winning streak in pre-season friendlies going with victory against Southport this afternoon with Antony Evans on target again to seal a dramatic 3-2 win.

David Unsworth's side had a 100% record in this month coming into today's game at the Merseyrail Community Stadium but they looked to be heading for their first defeat as they trailed 2-0 at half time following goals by Foster and Wright.

Evans halved Everton's deficit inside 10 minutes of the start of the second half, however, before Conor Grant drove home another fine effort from the edge of the box to level matters just before the hour mark.

Evans won it with eight minutes to go, profiting from good work by Michael Donohue to tuck home from close range.

Everton U21s: Hewelt, Jones, Connolly, Graham, Yates (73' Bainbridge) , Walsh, Davies (80' Trialist), Dyson (77' Charsley), Evans, Grant (63' Williams), Henen (46' Donohue).
Subs not Used: Griffiths.

Only against Southport, I know, but impressed again by Liam Walsh (small and skillful like Ossie but harder) and Tom Davies. And Michael Donohue when he came on second half -- very good at beating a man and pacey.

Jones, Evans, Davies, Williams, Griffiths Walsh all on the teamsheet!

Best man by a mile was Southport's #9 -- a trialist, I think. Sign him!

Thanks for the report Brent. Highlights now up on the OS. You don't mention Conor Grant but that was the second outstanding goals from distance in consecutive games.

More a few throw-away comments than a report, Paul. I thought the whole team played well and could have mentioned others. But, yes, "phenomenal" strikes!
