Season › 2015-16 › News Heitinga retires and moves into coaching , 1 February, 1comment | Jump to most recent Former Everton defender John Heitinga has hung up his boots at the age of 32 and will take up a coaching position at Ajax Amsterdam. The Dutchman spent four years at Goodison Park after joining from Atletico Madrid in 2009 for £6m and was named the club's Player of the Season for one of them but eventually moved on to Fulham in Roberto Martinez's first season in charge. A spell with Hertha Berlin followed before he returned to his first love, Ajax last year.
