U21s see off Saints

Everton's Under-21s beat Southampton handily at Finch Farm this evening, with Kieran Dowell lighting up the contest with a brilliant 40-yard effort that sailed over the visiting goalkeeper.

Brendan Galloway opened the scoring with an impressive finish from the angle and striker Sam Byrne doubled the lead with a low drive.

Dowell then made it 3-0 when he spotted the keeper off his line and found the top corner with a brilliantly-weighted shot.

Armani Little scored a consolation for the Saints but it was the Blues U21s' night.

Everton U21s: Griffiths, Jones, Galloway, Davies, Pennington, Connolly, Charsley, Williams, C Duffus (Foulds 86), Dowell (Evans 90), Byrne (Dyson 80).
Subs not used: Gray, Feeney.

What a difference a good pitch makes. Nice to see Galloway on the score sheet with Dowell and Byrne doing well again. I guess they all did well and look forward to Unsy's report.

Good to see Galloway is still keeping sharp with U21 football. After watching highlights of the game, it would be wrong of me not to mention the goal scored by Dowell. Vision, craft and pure quality is what was needed to score the goal. Well done.
