Nevin: Landing Koeman was a coup for Everton

Former Everton winger and current football pundit Pat Nevin says that Everton are "waiting to be a turned into big club" again and that Ronald Koeman is the man to do it.

“Everton is one of the best jobs to get at the moment," he says in the Liverpool Echo.

“Expectations have been lowered over the last couple of years, they've now got this huge new investment and plenty of good young players. It's a brilliant situation for Koeman.”

We don't know how many new faces will line up for Blues when the season gets underway but most of us seem confident that Koeman will get more out of the old brigade.

Some, like Mirallis and Delboy have never quite delivered - possibly because of irregular selection and dubious tactics - whilst others 'picked themselves' regardless of form or results.

No doubt the new manager will have his foibles and annoy us to hell at times but if he delivers 'top six' in his first season without bullshitting we deserved to win the league, he'll do for me.

No pressure, like.

Phil, I'd like a decent cup run too, actually. Although Koeman has a terrible record in cups as a manager.

With Leceister's season, every team should be aiming to win the league, ourselves included.

Yes, the realists and the skeptics will say that Leicester can't repeat it, but someone else can be Leicester for this coming season.

Might as well be us.
So, while I'm realistic that it might not happen, I go into every season hopeful that we will win the league.

A win at Anfield would be a good start first!.

"Koeman has a terrible record in cups as a manager"

Hasn't he won two domestic cup competitions with two different clubs (PSV and Valencia)?

Just so hope he steps up on the quality of the two signings so far. Gibson and that Fulham reserve goalie don't exactly inspire, do they ?
