Nathan Broadhead gave Everton a 10th minute lead when he nodded home Jonjoe Kenny's excellent cross to the back post but David Unsworth's side had to wait until the second-half to double their lead as Reading proved stubborn after going behind. Seven minutes after the re-start, Kieran Dowell added another goal to his growing highlight reel as he ran 40 yards, starting in his own half, before firing low past the Reading goalkeeper from the edge of the area. Three minutes later and the excellent Harry Charsley made it 3-0, following up on his blocked shot to stab the ball home from deep inside the Reading area.
