U18s secure a fine win at Blackburn

Everton U18s secured a fine win at Blackburn Rovers after going behind in the first 5 minutes.

Paul Tait claimed his Everton Under-18 players were a "joy to be around" after the young Blues maintained their title bid with a determined 2-1 victory at Blackburn Rovers.

Tait's Everton suffered an early blow when Rovers striker Kyle Connell's fifth-minute, 25-yard thunderbolt defeated the Toffees' American goalkeeper Nicolas Defreitas-Hansen.

But after withstanding an aerial barrage from their hosts, the Blues gradually asserted their superiority on the contest and midfielder Stephen Duke-McKenna levelled 11 minutes before the break.

Anthony Gordon stroked home from the spot on 52 minutes for his 12th goal in 10 league outings this season following a foul on centre-forward Manasse Mampala in the box.

Blackburn defender Hayden Carter was dismissed after collecting his second booking with three minutes to play, as Everton comfortably repelled their opponents late in the match to complete a fourth Under-18 Premier League success on the bounce.

Everton U18s: Hansen, Moore, Anderson, Collins, Richards, Denny, Duke-McKenna, Kerr, (74' Adedoyin), Mampala (90+3' Warren), Gordon (84' Scully), Iversen.
Subs not Used: Johnson, Corke.

Well done the young blues. Is Anthony Gordon going from strength to strength or what? Didn't see this game but from the highlights this season he looks like some player. A ginger messi! Nah, let's not get carried away, but he's progressing well, and needs to keep it up and to keep getting better.

Michael, I've run out of posts on all the Allardyce threads (damn 5 post rule) any chance of a thread to discuss his first press conference?

Alan (1) - I may be misremembering this but I think I read somewhere that his father is a coach who joined Everton this summer, so Nicolas signed up as well. Cannot find the story now though, so I could be talking rubbish.
