With Tom Davies and Jonjoe Kenny starting against Qatar — the latter as part of a back three deployed by coach Aidy Boothroyd — both Callum Connolly and Kieran Dowell were introduced as the young Lions cruised to a comfortable 4-0 win. Kenny played the full 90 minutes; Davies was withdrawn at the break, while Dowell and Connolly played 18 and 7 minutes respectively. Having finished the group level on points with Mexico — but having scored one goal less than the central Americans — England go through to the semi-finals as the best second-placed side in the group stages, where they will play Scotland in Aubagne on 6 June.
