Season › 2018-19 › News Virginia's U20 World Cup over prematurely Sunday, 2 June, 2019 2comments | Jump to most recent Joao Virginia's Under-20 World Cup adventure is over after a 1-1 draw with South Africa eliminated Portgual from the group stage. Just as he had in the 1-0 win over South Korea and a 2-0 defeat to Argentina, the Everton U23 keeper played the full 90 minutes. Rafael Leao, a reported Everton target, put the Portuguese ahead in the 19th minute but after VAR check, James Monyane converted a penalty for the African team who picked up their first point of the tournament. Disclaimer Si Smith 1 Posted 02/06/2019 at 22:25:55 I seen the Argentina game, Joao played well, but still has a lot to learn, its brilliant for him that we have brought in the lad from Huddersfield as it should get him a good loan deal. Justin Doone 2 Posted 02/06/2019 at 23:30:43 I get the obviousness links to good Portuguese players because of our current manager but I'm hoping the penny is about to fall that with our sponsorship, the rescheduled African nations to the off season and our limited but successful stint with recent African players (Gana and Pienaar) we are looking at the many quality players from the vast African continent that I'm sure we could bring in to improve our squad.I'm looking forward to watching the tournament and I'm sure there will be plenty of athleticism, pace, power and talent on show.
