The full squad includes: Jordan Pickford Maarten Stekelenburg Jonas Là¶ssl Lucas Digne Leighton Baines Seamus Coleman Michael Keane Mason Holgate Lewis Gibson Matthew Pennington Ryan Astley André Gomes Gylfi Sigurdsson Tom Davies Bernard Morgan Schneiderlin James McCarthy Beni Baningime Dennis Adeniran Nathan Broadhead Callum Connolly Joe Williams Kevin Mirallas Theo Walcott Ademola Lookman Cenk Tosun Fraser Hornby Oumar Niasse Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Yerry Mina have both been given extended time off and neither have travelled to Switzerland; both are expected back at Finch Farm on 22 July. Richarlison will take more time off following his Copa America triumph with Brazil, while Idrissa Gueye is still contesting the Africa Cup of Nations as Senegal have reached the semi-final. Disclaimer Andrew Keatley 1 Posted 11/07/2019 at 22:06:23 Josh Bowler not going? Maybe he's got a loan lined up... Derek Knox 2 Posted 11/07/2019 at 22:10:38 Michael, not sure how accurate the list is, but there are a few on it that don't make sense, unless they are going to leave them there?Good to see some of the youngsters are going too, although no Bowler or Feeney, yet Mirallas, Pennington and Niasse, along with the injury prone McCarthy are taking up spaces and funds, maybe they need a holiday? Tony Abrahams 3 Posted 11/07/2019 at 22:15:38 I've read that Bowler, might be going to Hull City on loan Andrew, and I don't know why, but I've got a feeling we might end up getting a winger back in return?I think the kids name is Jarod something, but he's scored a lot of goals in the championship, Silva must know him, and these young hungry players, usually end up giving more value in the end? Derek Knox 4 Posted 11/07/2019 at 22:22:53 Tony, that kind of makes sense, the kid is Jarod Bowen, and has been linked with us several times before. Silva obviously knows the lad having cut his EPL teeth there.A lot of people will probably dismiss this as not being good enough (Championship standard and all that) but this kid has regularly scored, and is not a one-season wonder either, apparently he is deceptively quick as well. I would certainly not be averse to giving him a go even if it is a loan with an option to buy. Bill Gienapp 5 Posted 11/07/2019 at 23:06:48 Awwwww - no Shani Tarashaj? Brian Wilkinson 6 Posted 11/07/2019 at 00:10:50 A little off topic but as this looks like a thread that will be visited by fellow Blues, this has been bugging me for a while now.The late great Leonard Rigsby Rossiter was on the pitch at Goodison, juggling a football and had a photo spread in the following home programe, must have been around 77-78, can any fellow Blue out there, remember which home programe he appeared in..Anyway, back on topic, squad looking a little better than the previous one in Africa; let's hope by the time we play the Wigan friendly, we have a couple of new additions we can take a look at. Alan J Thompson 7 Posted 12/07/2019 at 05:11:16 Bill (#5); Wouldn't he be in Switzerland already? Jim Bennings 8 Posted 12/07/2019 at 08:15:03 Only at Everton would distant screams like Mirallas and Niasse be wheeled out again in preseason!!These fellas should be training on their own at Finch Farm until a new club comes in, surely to God there's no point training with players that will play no part with us next season? Derek Knox 9 Posted 12/07/2019 at 08:15:03 Bill @ 5, he could be on his Toblerone there? Derek Thomas 10 Posted 12/07/2019 at 08:25:23 Andrew @1; In think Bowler has gone on loan(?) to Hull. Sam Hoare 11 Posted 12/07/2019 at 08:34:23 So much deadwood still! Looks like there's been no takers for Niasse and the rest. Expect a bunch of heavily subsidized loan moves over the next month or so. Jay Wood[BRZ] 12 Posted 12/07/2019 at 08:53:05 The Club site confirms this is the full list that travelled. The most notable absentee for me is U-23 skip Morgan Feeney. It's all the more surprising given that a more junior centre back - Lewis Gibson - and a more senior fringe player - Matthew Pennington - HAVE both travelled. If I was Feeney, I'd be both concerned and disappointed with that. Dave Williams 13 Posted 12/07/2019 at 12:20:13 It's a strange one Jay. Why include players if they are in no way part of the managers plans? In particular Mirallas doesn't make any sense at all unless he has declared a new attitude and has ripped through training all of which seems unlikely. Ray Smith 14 Posted 12/07/2019 at 12:29:16 Calvert-Lewin on extended leave? I know he is technically entitled! But with the early exit of the England Under-21s how much holiday does he need? With rumour control going into overdrive re signing a striker, I know where I would be right now. In pre-season training showing my hunger and commitment for the main striker's position.Don't get me wrong, he has a lot of potential, but needs to be seen to want the number one striker's role. He won't do that on holiday. Kieran Kinsella 15 Posted 12/07/2019 at 13:01:15 Besic? Jim Bennings 17 Posted 12/07/2019 at 14:22:01 RayGood point about that!Surely Calvert-Lewin should now be in Switzerland and staking a serious claim?Mind you he probably feels under no real pressure looking that Niasse and Tosun are the only other two options, hardly mesmerising choices for a top Premier League club.At 23 next year, Calvert-Lewin can't keep being classed as “potentialâ€; really it's got to start happening sooner rather than later, I'm all for patience but I'm becoming impatient waiting for Everton to achieve something different than middle-ranked finishes and no trophies. The club's progress on the pitch outweighs patience on players. Jay Harris 19 Posted 12/07/2019 at 14:44:45 I thought Mirallas had agreed a deal with Standard Liege.Jim I agree with you about Calvert-Lewin. He does lots of good work for the team but this is his Watershed season where he has got to start putting them away.We have been far too reliant on Sigurdsson and Richarlison and this season we need more goals from other positions in the team especially our Number 9.I would also hope that Gomes and Gana produce more goals this season. Stephen Davies 20 Posted 12/07/2019 at 14:52:51 Jay #19,He's turned down offers of a move because he's earning a lot more on his present contract. Per Stumo 21 Posted 12/07/2019 at 16:06:34 Kieran #15,Lots of talk in the papers of Besic joining Fulham for around 5 mill. Kieran Kinsella 22 Posted 12/07/2019 at 16:47:10 StephenI read the Liege move was complete fantasy and denied by all parties, sadly. Kristian Boyce 23 Posted 12/07/2019 at 21:24:12 People complaining about the deadwood traveling, but what else are the club to do with them? They still are our players and have some £ value to them. Sticking them with the U23's will diminish their value even more. Having them play in puts them in the shop window, to hopefully help shift them. Paul Burns 24 Posted 13/07/2019 at 11:10:24 They've been in the shop window for years like a faded packet of crackers.Make them paint the ground til they fck off. Alan J Thompson 25 Posted 13/07/2019 at 11:38:14 Paul(#24); Great idea that, pay them 50,60,70K a week to turn up and go home when everyone does but rather than improve their attitude and try and to see if they may be of some use playing football and therefore a saleable asset, just judge them on how good the paintwork is.Hopefully, our management team are a little more expansive in their thinking. David Milner 26 Posted 13/07/2019 at 14:32:41 The talk is Josh Bowler IS going to Hull, just finalizing the deal. Whether that means we are negotiating for Jarrod Bowen I am not sure.Morgan Feeney is with the Under-23s in La Manga because they were short on players as quite a few of last season's Under-23s had gone to Kenya with the first team. Morgan only played the last 12 minutes in Kenya. The Under-23s put in a good performance against Swindon Town, a mix of first/reserves, only losing to a 87th. minute header.Nice location with plenty of sun. Kieran Kinsella 27 Posted 13/07/2019 at 15:06:53 Paul Burns 24LOL I can imagine Ronnie Barker in Open All Hours, sitting there in his overalls with a faded Kevin Mirallas propped up against the front window. Julian Exshaw 28 Posted 14/07/2019 at 09:14:25 Heading south to see the boys today. You can never expect a great game but it'll be nice to see the boys in the flesh again. I'll be looking out for Delph!! Kris Boner 29 Posted 14/07/2019 at 13:02:06 Any thoughts on where we could find a feed for the Sion game aside from EFC.com?
