Season › 2019-20 › News Davies captains England U21s to victory Friday, 6 September, 2019 8comments | Jump to most recent Tom Davies played the full 90 minutes as England U21s come back from a goal down to beat Turkey in their first match of 2021 European Championship qualifying. The Everton midfielder wore the skipper's armband as Aidy Boothroyd's side took an early lead through Arsenal's Eddie Nketiah but then fell behind to the hosts 2-1 early in the second half to goals from Dogukan Sinik and Mert Muldur. Needing to show progress from a hugely disappointing summer when they were dumped out of the 2019 Euros at the group stage, the U21s reclaimed the lead through Nketiah in the 74th minute before his Gunners team-mate, Reiss Nelson, scored the winner a minute later. England take on Kosovo in their next match at Hull City's KC Stadium on Monday. Disclaimer Mark Andersson 1 Posted 07/09/2019 at 02:49:00 Good for Tom... Alan J Thompson 2 Posted 07/09/2019 at 10:54:01 A player who should be seeing more time with us. Derek Knox 3 Posted 07/09/2019 at 11:35:10 Great news for Tom and the Club, it says a lot in Tom's favour when he still gets picked, when not playing regularly, or at all for Everton recently. I don't know what it is with Silva, but he seems to have favourites, who if fit are almost a shoe-in, and others who don't even get a splinter off the bench. John Graham 4 Posted 07/09/2019 at 12:54:23 Great news Good to see him getting some game time.Seems to have gone backwards a bit from when he first got into the team.Need to find his right position to get the best out of him.Keep on trying and good luck to you Tom Mark McParlan 5 Posted 07/09/2019 at 14:08:34 Yes, Davies never has improved from where he was at the end of the 16-17 season aged 18.The reason for this is Ronald Koeman. After the great end of the season Davies had, securing a clear place in the starting XI, he proceeded to buy all 3 of Klaassen, Sigurdsson, and Rooney to take up Davies' midfield position. This unfairly shoved the lad so far down the pecking order that it was an uphill battle to ever recover. Peter Gorman 6 Posted 07/09/2019 at 18:30:30 England U21 captain can't get a kick in the English top flight. This is so wrong. Jack Convery 7 Posted 08/09/2019 at 18:14:54 Peter 6 - you are not wrong. I'd give him a run out against Sheff Wed. Mark Andersson 8 Posted 08/09/2019 at 00:00:53 I don't think managers have favourites. I think they pick the players they think believe in him; after all, the manager's job is on the line once the players cross the white line.Maybe Tom Davis is too much of a risk for Sliva. Tom plays with his heart on his sleeve; sometimes they have to use their heads to become a well-rounded player at this level..
