Season › 2019-20 › News Blues duo play as England saunter to win over Bulgaria Lyndon Lloyd Saturday, 7 September, 2019 11comments | Jump to most recent Jordan Pickford and Michael Keane both played the full 90 minutes for England as they beat Bulgaria 4-0 at Wembley. Harry Kane scored a hat-trick and Raheem Sterling added to his goal tally for club and country this season as Gareth Southgate's men racked up a handsome home win in European Championships qualifying. Pickford had the first routine save of the game to make but Kane had England a goal up at half-time after being set up by Sterling in the 24th minute and he doubled the lead from the penalty spot after Marcus Rashford had been felled in the box. Sterling himself netted in the 55th and Kane completed his treble from the spot again with 17 minutes to go. Disclaimer Paul Birmingham 1 Posted 08/09/2019 at 01:23:43 Top of his trade, well earned, Jordan. As an Evertonian, that's the level to maintain,Well done. Simon Smith 3 Posted 08/09/2019 at 13:36:09 Well done to both our boys, bit of an easy game to be honest. Hopefully same again midweek.Everton to qualify for Champions League this season and England to win the Euros at Wembley. Perfect! David Donnellan 4 Posted 08/09/2019 at 13:37:24 Roll on next Sunday & the real football. Everton all the way! Harry Hockley 5 Posted 08/09/2019 at 14:49:53 I'd like to think Jordan is maturing more and will get better and keep doing the simple things and stay out of the limelight. An unmentioned goalie is a good goalie. Jack Convery 6 Posted 08/09/2019 at 18:04:21 Hopefully they will both be rested against Kosovo. Give Pope and Mings a game. Mark Andersson 7 Posted 08/09/2019 at 23:55:24 Simone, that's a bold prediction. I hope you're right about one of them! Simon Smith 8 Posted 09/09/2019 at 12:22:04 It may be a bold prediction, but not hugely unlikely. What nationality are you then mark? Phil (Kelsall) Roberts 9 Posted 09/09/2019 at 13:07:29 Jack #6The Kosovo game is the tough one not Bulgaria.Kosovo have won in Bulgaria and drawn at home, drawn in Montenegro and beaten Czech Republic at home. So at the moment they are England's biggest threat. If anything - if we think Pickford and Keane are the No1 and we should be playing Pope and Mings, then the latter should have played on Saturday. Steve Ferns 10 Posted 09/09/2019 at 14:09:23 I think as football fans, we can be a bit too guilty of being insular. Jordan is far from perfect, both with his kicking and with his net tending. This leads to criticism as we expect the very best from our keeper. But, if you look around the rest of the league, I think Jordan is actually one of the very best. If not Jordan then who? De Gea tops most lists most seasons, but last season and this, he's been far from perfect. In fact the Spanish think he should be dropped from the national side. They only see him for Spain or in big games, and he's let himself down over the last 12 months. Allison has been probably the best in the league over the last 12 months, with Emerson not far behind. But are they that far ahead of Pickford? I think not. I think Jordan would not look out of place in a Championship winning side. He's better than Schmeichel who achieved that honour. Age is on his side. He is not perfect, so he has to work hard to improve his game, but I believe he will improve and so he's one very important piece of the team I hope we can build to restore us to glory. Simon Smith 11 Posted 09/09/2019 at 16:23:01 Great post Steve. I agree with you on Pickford. He has looked a lot more assured this season than last, that's for sure. You have to admire his confidence too and the fact that he has made the England number 1's job his own!I don't think Keane will make the first choice English 11 when everyone is fit. David Pearl 12 Posted 10/09/2019 at 15:51:42 Ajay, great conspiracy theorist. You could be right. Arnold is probably the best attacking right back in the league. I took a bit more interest when Southgate went 3 at the back during the World Cup but now he's gone back to 4-2-3-1 it's too boring to take any notice of.
