Season › 2019-20 › News Silva: We will fight on Lyndon Lloyd Friday, 8 November, 2019 14comments | Jump to most recent Marco Silva has called and his players to show strength in the face of adversity in the form of injuries to key players and baffling refereeing decisions. The Portuguese takes his team to Southampton tomorrow looking to pick up what would be Everton's first away win of the season and their first on the south coast since 2015 but they will have to do it without the injured Andre Gomes and possibly without Fabian Delph as well. Gomes suffered a fracture dislocation of his right ankle in Sunday's draw with Tottenham and underwent surgery on Monday while Delph sustained picked up a hamstring strain at the end of the same game. It means that Silva is deprived of three key central midfielders once the longer term loss of vision and is taken into account while Bernard, an increasingly important part of the team on the left flank, is also missing. Article continues below video content At the same time there is frustration and confusion in the ranks following a series of controversial refereeing and officiating decisions that have played a significant role in the outcome of each of Everton's last two Premier League matches. Michael Keane was penalised very harshly at Brighton a fortnight ago with video assistant referee Lee Mason awarding a penalty to the Seagulls, paving the way for a 3-2 win for the home side. Then in the Spurs ,game Everton were denied a clear penalty for handball by Dele Alli and two fouls by Davinson Sanchez on Richarlison inside the box were also ignored. “Now is the moment for us to show how we are strong as a football club,” Silva said on evertonfc.com. “We keep fighting because it is our obligation, we keep fighting for what is best for Everton Football Club. I am 100 per cent sure we will do the same thing on Saturday. “With all these things that have happened to us, all the players in our dressing room need our support to give the right answers every single day and, of course, on the matchday. “My feeling now is we will give a good answer with the support of everyone — first of all our fans. I think they realise how tough the past month was for us, all these things happening to us, the decisions, injuries to key players. “But in these types of moments you can see how you are strong as a dressing room, the togetherness we have in our dressing room and among all the staff.” Reader Comments (14) Note: the following content is not moderated or vetted by the site owners at the time of submission. David Thomas 2 Posted 08/11/2019 at 21:45:03 If we lose tomorrow and he isn't sacked then the club obviously have no ambition and they are happy just to be an also ran. Ray Smith 3 Posted 08/11/2019 at 21:48:06 JoeA win may bring a temporary reprieve, together with the Norwich home game. Then we'll see where we stand after the December fixtures. Daniel A Johnson 4 Posted 08/11/2019 at 21:51:25 P45 enroute and it cant come soon enough for this clown Ray Smith 5 Posted 08/11/2019 at 21:57:54 How 1 and Daniel 4I'll drive him to Williamson Square myself. Stan Schofield 6 Posted 08/11/2019 at 22:17:25 Well, can't imagine he'll say we're not going to fight on. Ken Kneale 7 Posted 08/11/2019 at 22:43:57 Just all take a moment to reflect this manager has been at the club for sufficient time to have instilled a winning confident mentality; to have a settled style of play in keeping with the club's heritage and to be building for a bright future. Instead we find ourselves going backwards at an alarming rate, having spent a huge sum of money and this sort of ridiculous narrative about survival. He is out of his depth and each delayed opportunity to relieve him of his duties is placing the club in deeper and deeper peril of oblivion to the Championship, and Mr Silva has a CV littered with the type of play and result sequences we are experiencing. In what other era of Everton would this have been tolerated. He needs to go irrespective of whatever the next result is. Stan Schofield 9 Posted 08/11/2019 at 22:47:28 Ken@7: In what era of Everton would this have been tolerated? The era that spans the last three decades. Brian Williams 11 Posted 08/11/2019 at 23:02:14 https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2019/11/08/premier-league-admit-var-decision-award-brighton-penalty-against/... Ken Kneale 12 Posted 08/11/2019 at 23:09:08 Stan - the correct answer. You win a further term in purgatory Brian Porter 13 Posted 08/11/2019 at 23:18:24 Ken #7, I know where you're coming from and I totally agree with you. Silva should have been dismissed weeks ago. To say we're going backwards is an understatement, we're not 'going' backwards, we're bloody 'RUNNING,' backwards, all the way to the championship. Is Moshiri so blind to reality that he subscribes to the ridiculous, "we're too good to go down" mentality? If he can't see that Silva is a serial loser and is likely to cost the club millions in lost revenue if we drop to the championship, and thus putting the whole Bramley Moor Dock project in jeopardy, he's a bigger and more naive fool than I've previously taken him for.I think what Ken means is that any other chairman at this or any other club would have dumped Silva long before now. He has to realise he made a huge judgment error in chasing after and appointing Silva. If he has to pay a few million in compensation to get rid of Silva, it will still be less than the potential millions ww stand to lose if we go down, and every day Silva stays as manager the less time we have to rescue ourselves from the devastating mess that is Marco Silva's Everton. And Silva, stop talking about, 'moments.' I'm sick of hearing, 'in this moment', in these moments', "we have had some bad moments", yeah, yeah we know. Just stop talking about them and effing do something about them, you know? Like a real manager would do. Better still, do one, bugger off, resign, take a powder, just go... And failing that, Moshiri, grow a pair and fire the loser while there's still time to save ourselves from relegation Shaun McGough 15 Posted 08/11/2019 at 23:26:31 Hope we win or draw at least, either way international break after next week Moyes will be in to guide the ship through an awful December and end of season as we can't carry on with Silva, no matter how much we don't want to change the manager again. Michael Lynch 16 Posted 08/11/2019 at 23:32:11 You actually couldn't make it up. The Premier League has reviewed the VAR which reviewed the referee's decision, which was no decision because there was no foul in the referee's eyes so no decision to make, and has decided that Brighton shouldn't have had a penalty against us after all. Which is what the referee said in the first place. I mean, just fuck off. Jerome Shields 18 Posted 09/11/2019 at 12:20:42 Sounds like Silva is throwing the kitchen at this game and hoping for a result. The whole VAR project the Premier League has implemented is half baked. Obviously it was not thought out properly. But Silva has more problems than VAR , with the run of fixtures up to now not providing the required points.
