Disclaimer Martin Faulkner 1 Posted 24/01/2020 at 20:33:00 Which gives them another day's rest after their Wednesday game against Atletico Brian Cleveland 2 Posted 24/01/2020 at 20:47:40 Your maths is well dodgy Martin, they get 2 days and 5 hours extra rest, but point taken !Not that it matters, we could play them 15 minutes after they finish and we'd still find a way to f*** it up. Ian Bennett 3 Posted 24/01/2020 at 22:41:54 What's our record like on a Monday night? I think it's pretty good off the top of my head.I recall the last Anfield derby win was a Monday night. Ste Traverse 4 Posted 24/01/2020 at 23:36:32 We get 8 days rest before the derby so I don't see what some are cryarseing about. Jim Bennings 5 Posted 25/01/2020 at 13:41:58 Going on about rest, we have 2 matches between now and March 1st, pathetic that!No doubt we'll still look knackered.Yesof course they put the derby on so they can witness them clinch the title at Goodison Brian Williams 6 Posted 25/01/2020 at 13:45:34 Come on Jim look on the bright side, not like you to be negative. Tony Abrahams 7 Posted 25/01/2020 at 13:46:36 Well we have just got to make sure we beat the bastards then Jim, and if this thread gets over 100 comments, I don't think any will make as much sense as what Ste@4 says.Football is about loads of things, with the most important being, it's mostly about yourfuckingself! Kieran Kinsella 8 Posted 25/01/2020 at 14:24:18 I'm hoping for a re run of the Wayne Clarke derby. If I recall correctly the RS needed to win that to beat the unbeaten record held by a Leeds team featuring Wayne's brother Allan. But despite indifferent form at the time we beat them and popped that balloon. Jay Evans 9 Posted 25/01/2020 at 19:28:55 I know there are still a lot of variables but does anyone know what is the likelihood of them being crowned champions on the night if they beat us ?If they need 3 points at the derby then we all know what will happen. Joe McMahon 10 Posted 25/01/2020 at 19:40:50 Ian @3 you recall correct, way back in Sept 1999. Jay @9 "If they need 3 points at the derby then we all know what will happen". I think we all know what will happen anyway, Sergeant Pickford will see to that! Peter Mills 11 Posted 25/01/2020 at 22:10:20 Let's just beat them. John Raftery 12 Posted 25/01/2020 at 23:10:45 Jay (9) I did the calculation earlier in the week. If they win all their games and in the meantime City drop six points they will win the title at Goodison if they beat us. As Peter says, let's just beat them! Rob Young 13 Posted 25/01/2020 at 00:01:17 Jim, we have 3 matches before March 1st.Not that ridiculous. Because of the so-called winter break and because we couldn't beat Liverpool U23s in the FA Cup. Mind you, if Man Utd somehow manage to reach the League Cup Final, our game om March 1st will be off. Kev Wood 14 Posted 26/01/2020 at 12:29:27 It is outrageous that the derby has been moved to a Monday night for TV purposes. I'm well aware that TV has the power to pick and choose fixtures but, in my opinion, as a season ticket holder, it would have been so much better, as a live spectacle, in its original slot on a Saturday afternoon. I like Goodison under the lights but I'm less keen on travelling home afterwards in winter. Dick Fearon 15 Posted 26/01/2020 at 12:56:21 As recently proved, Liverpool could play Atletico and put their reserves out against us at the same kick-off time and win both games. Jay Evans 16 Posted 26/01/2020 at 16:51:31 John @12, thanks, mate. The problem as we all know is that we won't just beat them, especially if they need a win to clinch the title at our place.Let's not kid ourselves, we couldn't beat their reserves last time out, so what are the chances of us winning when it really matters to them? Sorry for sounding like a negative arse but I'm having nightmares about this potential scenario. Brian Wilkinson 17 Posted 26/01/2020 at 18:16:18 John @12, so Man City cannot afford to drop 6 points before our derby? Well, they have Spurs away, Man Utd and Leicester away, with West Ham, Arsenal and Burnley at home,I cannot see our neighbours dropping many points so it could be our worst nightmare, or we could delay it and also smash their invincible tag,We couldn't could we? Michael Barrett 18 Posted 27/01/2020 at 12:07:39 Brian, no we couldn't... behave yourself. Steve Ferns 19 Posted 27/01/2020 at 12:25:17 I think the derby in a night-match in the cold might suit us more. Our fans tend to be louder for such games, particularly with plenty of time to be well, for want of a better phrase, "lubricated".I expect an atmosphere of defiance as we roar our boys into every tackle and give them all our energy. At some point, Klopp is going to start to concentrate on the Champions League. He has that luxury, with the title all but won. Therefore, I wouldn't be surprised if he again sent out a slightly weakened side to play us, coming off the back of the second leg of the Atletico game. Fatigue will catch up with them at some point.
