Season › 2021-22 › General Forum Premier League — Week 1 By Michael Kenrick 13/08/2021 Share: The moment has finally arrived for the fans to return and welcome the start of the 2021-22 Premier League Season.Newly promoted Brentford take on Arsenal in this evening's big kick-off, shown live in the UK on Sky Sports (8:00 pm BST) and on overseas services throughout the world. But only four of this weekend's other games are available on domestic television for football fans in the UK:Saturday 14 August 2021Man Utd v Leeds United — 12:30 BST on BT Sport 1Norwich City v Liverpool — 17:30 BST on Sky Sports Sunday 15 August 2021Newcastle United v West Ham United — 14:00 BST on Sky SportsTottenham Hotspur v Man City — 16:30 BST on Sky Sports While fans in much of the rest of the world can choose any or all of the 10 games on offer this weekend, UK fans who can't attend at the grounds hosting the other five games must find other ways to watch — often via illegal streams and dangerous sites bursting with malware — when many would be happy to pay their clubs for a secure feed. That day seems to be as far off as ever. Reader Comments (76) Note: the following content is not moderated or vetted by the site owners at the time of submission. Mike Gaynes 2 Posted 13/08/2021 at 19:58:45 What fantastic scenes at Brentford. So happy for those fans. Mike Gaynes 3 Posted 13/08/2021 at 20:04:33 Da BEES!!!!!!! Dale Self 4 Posted 13/08/2021 at 20:07:42 The fashion police really need to do something about that Arsenal away kit. Mike Gaynes 5 Posted 13/08/2021 at 20:10:43 At least it's not salmon. Brent Stephens 6 Posted 13/08/2021 at 20:22:50 Well well. 1-0 Mike Gaynes 7 Posted 13/08/2021 at 20:23:04 Top of the table!!!! Brent Stephens 8 Posted 13/08/2021 at 20:24:05 Defense haven't conceded a single goal. Michael Kenrick 9 Posted 13/08/2021 at 20:24:22 How to hit a football properly: Lesson One Dale Self 10 Posted 13/08/2021 at 20:25:11 Hell yeah! And Brent, defence please. Mike Gaynes 11 Posted 13/08/2021 at 20:25:19 How to play with passion: Lesson One Brent Stephens 12 Posted 13/08/2021 at 20:25:24 Quite, Michael - and not looking to lay it off for yet another pass. Brent Stephens 13 Posted 13/08/2021 at 20:26:21 Haha, Dale! Touche! My bad. Michael Kenrick 14 Posted 13/08/2021 at 20:36:07 Hey, any of you yankee boys watching this on your computer and not your telly? How are you getting NBCSN? I get this fubo tv think coming up that looks a bit dodgy... Steve Dawson 15 Posted 13/08/2021 at 20:40:34 Watching from NY: http://www.hesgoal.com/news/84708/Brentford_vs_Arsenal_----_HD.html Mike Gaynes 16 Posted 13/08/2021 at 20:41:33 NBCSN on DirecTV for me, as per usual with the Prem. Dale Self 17 Posted 13/08/2021 at 20:43:18 I'm occasionally looking in on a comcast account access to NBCSN. But I'm at work so mostly just checking the MBM which unfortunately is an extension of social media it seems. Michael Kenrick 18 Posted 13/08/2021 at 20:44:15 Wow, that is a good clear feed Steve... thanks. About 1 minute behind the Sky Sports feed here in the UK but with their commentators. I thought NBC had their own guys spouting – and the lovely Rebecca, of course!Actually ignore that -- it's a Sky feed, not NBCSN Ron Marr 19 Posted 13/08/2021 at 20:47:50 I'm a subscriber to YouTube TV. Currently watching on NBCSN on my Desktop. Usually watch on the tv via Roku. Steve Dawson 20 Posted 13/08/2021 at 20:53:43 Watching the game and there's this weird sound of lots of people continually shouting and clapping... oh, wait... Michael Kenrick 21 Posted 13/08/2021 at 20:55:23 Okay, thanks, Ron. I was wondering about Roku. But Hesgoal is coming via Europe, I believe, and the quality is really good. It may work best for me. Jamie Evans 22 Posted 13/08/2021 at 21:04:30 Looking at that Arsenal line up actually gives me some confidence - what a poor eleven that is Dale Self 23 Posted 13/08/2021 at 21:08:48 I'm very tempted to test my COVID office silo by going out and grabbing a pint for the second half. Football is back and I'm alive. Mike Gaynes 24 Posted 13/08/2021 at 21:14:43 COVID silo? You a farmer, Dale? Michael Kenrick 25 Posted 13/08/2021 at 21:21:12 And Hesgoal's HD feed goes down... Mike Gaynes 26 Posted 13/08/2021 at 21:29:21 Brentford starting to make mistakes in midfield. Could cost 'em. Dale Self 27 Posted 13/08/2021 at 21:31:12 Got out of Oklahoma a long time ago Mike. Yeehaw! Mike Gaynes 28 Posted 13/08/2021 at 21:32:44 I think the Bees are gonna do real well in the Champions League. Yowza! Dale Self 29 Posted 13/08/2021 at 21:33:49 Lovely that. Brent Stephens 30 Posted 13/08/2021 at 21:34:02 2-0. Wow Jamie Crowley 31 Posted 13/08/2021 at 21:36:07 Holy shit just now turned on the game.Arsenal fans are going to riot.Never, ever draw the newly promoted teams first game! Over 38 games they fade, injuries happen, and they are generally smaller clubs and don't have the needed squad depth. But the first game in the Prem, with all 11 starters raring to go? Tony Everan 32 Posted 13/08/2021 at 21:36:33 Good character about the Brentford side, Arsenal shell shocked. Was there a VAR review on the goal? Keeper looked like he was being held , but also looked a bit weak too. Mike Gaynes 33 Posted 13/08/2021 at 21:38:49 Nah, Tony, Arsenal didn't even complain. Leno is a wimp... you can't let an attacker do that. Anybody who tried that on me usually got a good sharp knuckle strike in the kidneys. Leno didn't even shove the guy. Mike Gaynes 34 Posted 13/08/2021 at 21:41:00 Did you guys see Valencia got a guy sent off in the 2nd minute of the season? High tackle, studs up, buh-bye, see ya. Jamie Crowley 35 Posted 13/08/2021 at 21:46:01 They showed some Arsenal fans leaving and my 12 year old started chanting:Is there a fire drill? Is there a fire drill? Andrew Ellams 36 Posted 13/08/2021 at 21:46:04 Arteta must be the favourite for the sack race Mike Gaynes 37 Posted 13/08/2021 at 21:46:40 Exceptional save. Dale Self 38 Posted 13/08/2021 at 21:48:28 Looks like Brentford will win this for their past technical director who died at 28. Well done Bees. Ron Marr 39 Posted 13/08/2021 at 21:49:09 Sometimes you can get a surprise from promoted teams. I was at Goodison for the first game of 1977-1978 and Everton lost to Notts Forest 3-1. Back in those days it was a surprise if Everton lost at home to a promoted team. Newly promoted Forest went on to win the league that season and Everton finished 3rd. Brian Clough was a genius. Mike Gaynes 40 Posted 13/08/2021 at 21:51:12 Arlo White talking about a Brentford fan who was in attendance for their last top-flight game 74 years ago. Home loss to Arsenal 0-1. He's watching them win tonight at age 88.Now THAT's what football is all about. Dale Self 41 Posted 13/08/2021 at 21:53:21 You've obviously raised your child well Jamie. Tony Everan 42 Posted 13/08/2021 at 21:53:47 Yes Mike, enjoyed that Raya save down low to his right, he didn't have much time to react to the shot. Here's a question for everyone. Will we finish above Arsenal this season? Mike Gaynes 43 Posted 13/08/2021 at 21:55:19 No, Tony. They've got a lot of good players missing tonight. Jamie Crowley 44 Posted 13/08/2021 at 21:56:42 Well done Brentford! Lot of beers popped back in Brentford tonight I'd bet! Michael Kenrick 45 Posted 13/08/2021 at 21:57:22 Seems like a nice young man... Jamie Crowley 46 Posted 13/08/2021 at 21:57:42 And... it's FUCKING BRILLIANT seeing a FULL STADIUM again! Dale Self 47 Posted 13/08/2021 at 21:57:54 Cool, that Arsy dude with the spiky smile will be taking it down a level now. Brent Stephens 48 Posted 13/08/2021 at 21:58:32 What a great game and great emotion for the first game back this season. Wonderful. Albert Perkins 49 Posted 13/08/2021 at 22:00:13 Brentford to win the league and Arsenal relegated! Gary Smith 50 Posted 13/08/2021 at 22:00:37 Tell ye what boys and girls: if we don't make the old lady shake tomorrow, we're as bad as ANY of the players we can chose to name. COME ON YOU BLUES!!!! Mike Gaynes 51 Posted 13/08/2021 at 22:01:47 Damn, if that doesn't make your eyes fill up... Matthew Williams 52 Posted 13/08/2021 at 22:05:52 First game, first shock...well played Bees. Andy Peers 53 Posted 13/08/2021 at 22:06:39 Last time we saw passion and desire, as Brentford did today was Chelsea when big Dunc was in charge... Have not seen it since. Maybe tomorrow. LOL Tony Abrahams 54 Posted 13/08/2021 at 22:16:51 A new season is about to begin for Everton tomorrow, and it's only after reading posts 50 + 53, have I started to gain a little bit of enthusiasm, and also started thinking about how great it will be to get back inside Goodison, so now I'm expecting us to win 4-0, and this will hopefully make George McKane very happy🤞 Jamie Crowley 55 Posted 13/08/2021 at 22:17:30 Gary Smith from your mouth to God's ears.Shake Goodison. Get behind Rafa, he's our guy now. Get behind the players.Let them hear you miles away. Gary Smith 56 Posted 13/08/2021 at 22:35:50 Damn right, Mr Cowley! As Ferris Bueller once wisely said: if we don't stop and look around once in a while, we might miss it. Plenty of time to bitch and whine, tomorrow is one to breathe it in, and shout until we're hoarse. Feels like Xmas Eve. Danny O’Neill 57 Posted 13/08/2021 at 22:36:08 Just back from the local. As I saw it. I thought Brentford ran around like headless chickens in the first 10 minutes. Doubt they will keep that intensity up fro this match let alone all season I thought at the time. Then I saw Arsenal take control of the ball and the game. But they didn't do a lot with it. Sideways and backwards. They seem to have a really good outlet on their left side but don't or didn't have tonight anyone to exploit or execute. No end product; no finisher?Well done Brentford. Fantastic story for all those supporters who have dreamed of this for years. This is what football is all about. And a reminder that you can't predict football. Both the doomsayers and the foolish optimists like me.Early start tomorrow to get the dogs out before heading to Euston then onto Lime Street and then Goodison.I'll ask their prediction. They probably know better you me and anyone on here! Arild Andersen 58 Posted 14/08/2021 at 09:05:23 Watched Brentford vs Arsenal on TV last night. Amazing what running, enthusiasm, fighting for every ball and a group of players who knows each other can do… They'll need a big squad to keep up that level of intensity throughout the season though. (And Arteta could be a good bet for first sacked manager) Dale Self 59 Posted 14/08/2021 at 12:41:56 Cmon Leeds! Suck it United. Dale Self 60 Posted 14/08/2021 at 12:44:03 World class miss there, Pogba! George Cumiskey 61 Posted 14/08/2021 at 12:51:20 Lingard not in the Man Utd squad! Rafa, take note. Dale Self 62 Posted 14/08/2021 at 13:02:56 Leeds way too open for that goal kick. 1-0 the other red shite Dale Self 63 Posted 14/08/2021 at 13:36:45 Fuuuuuck yesssss goal of the year candidate. 1-1 Michael Kenrick 64 Posted 14/08/2021 at 13:39:11 Fantastic strike by the Leeds man, foot through the ball, backspinning all the way, makes it fly like a fooken laser beam! Tremendous stuff. Michael Kenrick 65 Posted 14/08/2021 at 13:41:48 Just seems to have wound up the Red Devils... 3 - 1 inside 5 mins. Dale Self 66 Posted 14/08/2021 at 13:46:48 Another easy goal and a Pope mistake. Damn it. United still pressing. Leeds could get back in it but Bamford needs some touches Michael Kenrick 67 Posted 14/08/2021 at 13:48:37 Absolutely brilliant first-time finish from Bruno Fernandes for his hat-trick. 4 - 1. Dale Self 68 Posted 14/08/2021 at 13:49:49 Guess not. 4-1.Bielsa out Colin Glassar 69 Posted 14/08/2021 at 18:22:58 Has Juergen had a facelift? He's definitely had eye surgery, falsies put in and liposuction. What a tart!! Jamie Crowley 70 Posted 14/08/2021 at 19:09:24 Josh Sergeant in for Norwich. C'mon son! You're America's gingy! Danny O’Neill 71 Posted 15/08/2021 at 09:08:59 Just catching up on the highlights. Early days, but Watford look very pacey, direct and good on the front foot? Dale Self 72 Posted 15/08/2021 at 14:15:53 Just came to have a kick at the GingeCmon barcodes. Suck it Ginge. UTFT! Tony Abrahams 73 Posted 15/08/2021 at 15:27:29 How can Atkinson give a penalty for that, and then it not be overruled in the VAR room? These are the kind of decisions that kill the game imo, but that was a lovely counter-attack from the Hammers, for a lovely goal! Brian Murray 74 Posted 15/08/2021 at 15:31:23 Probably asking too much but Toon will have to cash in on Saint-Maximin before the window shuts to stay up. Barry Rathbone 75 Posted 15/08/2021 at 16:51:30 Totally bemused by the Grealish hype. Just another moderate Joe from what I've seen... Brian Williams 76 Posted 15/08/2021 at 17:04:13 For fuck's sake, Barry, that's harsh.Glad you never saw me play. 🤣 Add Your Comments In order to post a comment, you need to be logged in as a registered user of the site. » Log in now Or Sign up as a ToffeeWeb Member — it's free, takes just a few minutes and will allow you to post your comments on articles and Talking Points submissions across the site.
