The young striker had already bagged hat-tricks against both Warrington Rylands and Guiseley earlier in pre-season, after playing for the first team in their practice match against Accrington Stanley at Finch Farm. The 18-year-old took less than 10 minutes to find the net after a great forward pass from Tom Cannon. Chorley equalised before the break, but Dobbin restored the lead with a right-footed shot under the keeper from a Stanley Mills cross. Phill Thompson 3 Posted 03/08/2021 at 19:52:46 You there Brent? - if so, looking forward to your updates, maybe news of the bench? Brent Stephens 4 Posted 03/08/2021 at 19:54:55 I'm at the game, Phill, but the bench wasn't announced. Phill Thompson 5 Posted 03/08/2021 at 20:00:29 Great stuff, Brent, will look forward to your views and comments. I will let you concentrate on the game now!ps: Earlier team news should be credited to Adam Jones not Sam Carroll. Brent Stephens 6 Posted 03/08/2021 at 20:01:29 And my battery is goiiiiinnnngggg. As Price puts one over the bar. Brent Stephens 7 Posted 03/08/2021 at 20:04:34 1-1. Welch too easily side-stepped. Brent Stephens 8 Posted 03/08/2021 at 20:15:09 Price one-on-one but keeper saves. Brent Stephens 9 Posted 03/08/2021 at 20:16:24 But it was good work by Dobbin again. Brent Stephens 10 Posted 03/08/2021 at 20:24:53 Onyango here. Just spoken to him. Back on the grass next week he says. I assume that's not the weed! Tony Abrahams 11 Posted 03/08/2021 at 20:27:25 Stick to the footy, Brent! Phill Thompson 12 Posted 03/08/2021 at 20:37:36 Brent, ignore Tony, we rarely get a TWer at a match with the initiative to get a player interview / exclusive! :-) Tony Abrahams 13 Posted 03/08/2021 at 21:12:45 I think his battery must have died, Phill, because he never told us that Dobbin has scored his second goal Phill Thompson 14 Posted 03/08/2021 at 21:16:26 Tony, tch what can you do eh?Dobbin completes his hat-trick to make it 3-1, his 3rd hat trick in pre-season games. Phill Thompson 15 Posted 03/08/2021 at 21:20:57 McAllister on for CannonHunt on for QuirkWarrington replaces Butterfield Tony Abrahams 16 Posted 03/08/2021 at 21:22:47 That's not a bad result for Everton, Phill. I watched Chorley a few weeks ago against Morecombe and thought they were a physically strong outfit. They have also had a few good results in the FA Cup over the last couple of seasons, so I can't wait to hear Brent's match report now! Phill Thompson 17 Posted 03/08/2021 at 21:33:20 Yes indeed, Brent, another young side, did well score wise sometimes they struggle against older more cany teams. Brent Stephens 18 Posted 03/08/2021 at 22:25:36 Yeh battery packed up. Dobbin second was an opportunistic first time swept shot just inside the area. His third just the keeper to beat and put it into the corner. Dobbin a man boy against men. Very impressive skill wise and physically. And Astley impressed in defence. Not scared to mix it with the big lads. Ajay Gopal 19 Posted 04/08/2021 at 09:26:19 Great stuff, Brent. It is exciting to hear about the emergence of new talent at the club. We are long overdue a real star. Hopefully Onyango and Simms and Branthwaite can kick-on this season after their injuries. Dobbin and Cannon seem to have a good future ahead of them - fingers crossed! Dave Abrahams 21 Posted 04/08/2021 at 10:10:47 Thanks for all the information, lads, especially our roving reporter getting an interview with a possible future star and not giving him a penny for the privilege!! Tony (16), how did Seb Quirk do, was he playing full-back or midfield? Tony Abrahams 22 Posted 04/08/2021 at 11:31:06 You're going to have to ask the roving reporter Dave, because I was taking my information from the echo website and off Phill! Peter Gorman 23 Posted 04/08/2021 at 12:05:25 Excellent input, Brent. I'm looking forward to the highlights at some point.I feared for Dobbin after that long-term injury but he's clearly back to doing what he does best. Brent Stephens 24 Posted 04/08/2021 at 12:50:34 Dave #21 - yes, Seb at RB. Played a fairly solid game defensively, and put some nice balls down the wing for the likes of Dobbin and Cannon to get on to.I think it was McAllister who was ready to come on with his shirt on the wrong way round - Rhino saw the funny side. Dave Abrahams 25 Posted 04/08/2021 at 12:59:39 Brent (24)thanks for that Brent, I was asking about Seb Quirk because I knew his grandparents very well, he is also related to Duncan Ferguson's wife. I am hoping he makes a career out of football so every year he gets with Everton is a feather in his cap, don't know if he has been awarded a full professional contract with the Blues. Brent Stephens 26 Posted 04/08/2021 at 13:50:11 Dave, Everton's website says "Quirk signed a first professional contract with Everton in July 2020". Dave Abrahams 27 Posted 04/08/2021 at 14:21:48 Brent (26), thanks again Brent, I take an interest in the lads time at Everton but obviously missed that, it means he must have got a two year contract at least, very good, I hope he does well enough to get another one off the Blues, his grandmother, Theresa, would have been proud and delighted with his progress. Derek Knox 28 Posted 05/08/2021 at 16:12:33 We should make sure both Lewis Dobbin and Ellis Simms are tied to contacts with every chance they can make the break-through! Mal van Schaick 29 Posted 06/08/2021 at 12:28:45 Give these young players a chance in the first team, or there is no point in academies or U23 squads. Dobbin should be given a chance to show his ability. What's to lose? James Flynn 30 Posted 06/08/2021 at 17:37:24 Late to this thread, here's some YouTube highlights:LinkJust highlights, but I liked our youngsters looking to turn into the attack right away.First time having a look at Dobbin. Lively going forward. Besides his goals, he laid off to teammates a couple times when he saw they had a better opening.Wish them all luck wherever football takes them. And Dobbin, pre-season or no, 10 goals in 4 games is some return. Tony Abrahams 31 Posted 06/08/2021 at 17:50:52 Enjoyed that, James, thanks mate! James Flynn 32 Posted 07/08/2021 at 03:24:00 Tony (31) - Cheers.Always enjoy you and others talking about our youngsters. 19th birthday come January for Dobbins. Hope he stays healthy so we can see continuous improvement over the next 2 seasons.Maybe behind the fair on this. Rafa has moved Dobbin into 1st Team training.
