Season › 2021-22 › News Virginia makes Sporting loan move Lyndon Lloyd Tuesday, 24 August, 2021 4comments | Jump to most recent Joao Virginia's proposed loan move to Sporting CP has been confirmed, with the goalkeeper joining the Portuguese club for the 2021-22 season. The 21-year-old was signed by Everton from Arsenal as a young prospect three years ago and has already had one loan spell at Reading. He briefly got his first opportunity in the Blues' first team last season when both Jordan Pickford and Robin Olsen picked up injuries but the arrival of Asmir Begovic this summer was an indication at Virginia wasn't yet considered a reliable back-up to the England keeper. With Andy Lonergan also now on board, it is believed that Virginia has joined Sporting with a view to making the switch permanent if all goes well for him back in Portugal. Disclaimer Chris Williams 1 Posted 24/08/2021 at 17:45:02 This makes a total of 14 players who've left Everton since the end of last season, by my reckoning. This is a combination of players whose contract came to an end, players let go, players leaving on loan etc. Insignificant fees will have been received. These are players whose wages we were paying to whatever degree in last season's accounts, and won't be from now on. Including Bernard, Bolasie etc. There are likely to be a few more leaving yet, hopefully with some money coming in too. With any luck, this will leave a bit of space for some incomings, over and above the signings we've made so far.The window ‘crashes shut' a week today, and it will be interesting to watch developments. Minik Hansen 2 Posted 24/08/2021 at 19:38:23 I bet he will thrive more than when he was at Reading, and I believe this is when we'll get to know if he has a future as a back up for Pickford come next season. Andrew Keatley 3 Posted 25/08/2021 at 14:26:27 Maybe allowing Virginia to go out on loan to help Sporting Lisbon with their goalkeeping shortcomings might be a way of sweetening the Matheus Nunes dealings. You never know... Shane Corcoran 4 Posted 26/08/2021 at 18:43:23 Is he really going to play at Sporting?
