Season › 2021-22 › News Everton U18s clinch a fine cup win over young Hammers Michael Kenrick Saturday, 16 October, 2021 12comments | Jump to most recent Everton U18s 3 - 0 West Ham Utd U18s Whilst we await the seniors clashing in the big game at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon, Everton U18s take on their West Ham counterparts in their second game of this season's U18 Premier League Cup at Finch Farm on Saturday morning. Everton sit bottom of Group G having lost 3-1 to Burnley in the opening game, while West Ham lost to Arsenal, so a win will be crucial to reviving any chances of advancement to the knockout stages of the competition. Intersting that Luke Butterfield drops back down to the U18s after starting all seven U23 games so far this season in PL2. Goalkeeper Žan-Luk Leban, who has not only been playing for the U23s but also made the senior bench for a couple of Premier League games under Carlo Ancelotti last season, starts his second U18s game, with Jak Stewart again on the bench. Still no sign of Francis Okoronkwo, the 17-year-old signing from Sunderland, who has yet to appear in an Everton shirt, while Shea Cahill is also yet to appear. The score at half-time was 0-0 but Jenson Metcalfe put the Blues ahead after 72 minutes. The young Blues went further ahead just 6 minutes later, when striker Martin Sherif scored. And in a great finish to the game, Emilo Lawrence also got on the scoresheet before the end to seal an emphatic win. Everton U18s: Leban, Mallon [Y:67'] (88' Wright), Samuels-Smith, Jones, Tierney, Metcalfe, Barker, Butterfield, Sherif, Lawrence (88' Jagne), Heath (60' Djankpata). Subs not Used: Stewart, Wilson. Dave Abrahams 2 Posted 16/10/2021 at 14:46:33 Yes a good win and the U16s beat West Ham's U16s 4-1 with Coby Ebere scoring two.It looks like we have to beat Arsenal in the U18s final group game while hoping Burnley lose their game for us to advance – all courtesy of another Everton fan on a different website!! Danny O’Neill 3 Posted 16/10/2021 at 14:55:31 Hopefully bodes well for tomorrow Dave! Dave Abrahams 4 Posted 16/10/2021 at 15:07:25 Danny (3), well we were pleasantly surprised by the performance at Old Trafford, especially with the team we had out, something similar tomorrow might earn the points.I hope you have two good trips tomorrow Danny with a victory in between, hope you have a great day anyway, hope to meet you in the future. Phill Thompson 5 Posted 16/10/2021 at 21:34:57 Another cracking goal from Metcalfe, a fine right-footed strike from the edge of the box. It can't be long before he returns to the U23s. Sherif and Lawrence are getting in the goals regularly too. Michael Kenrick 6 Posted 17/10/2021 at 10:59:40 Great to see him backing up that Guardian call-out with another good strike from midfield. I saw the link to it from Instagram but the link was dead when I got to it – looks like it's been removed. Maybe the Everton PR team in action and they will write something up tomorrow and maybe post the highlights when they roll in at 9:30??? Phill Thompson 7 Posted 17/10/2021 at 17:05:07 As well as scoring the 2nd goal, 15-year-old Martin Sherif made the 3rd for Lawrence. Okay he's a Schoolboy, inexperienced at U18s, no U23s games yet… but it's the question we should all be asking – Is he better than Rondon? Michael Kenrick 8 Posted 18/10/2021 at 13:51:31 According to our great leader, we have no-one who is better than Rondon. Which is very depressing. Still, the lads came through with a report on this game (but no highlights): Match Report Jay Harris 9 Posted 18/10/2021 at 16:32:31 At least the U18s gave us something to be proud of. Trevor Edwards 10 Posted 18/10/2021 at 16:51:29 Pity the match report changed Owen Barker's name to Parker ;-) Michael Kenrick 11 Posted 18/10/2021 at 16:56:43 Good catch, Trevor. For some reason, that one is always giving them problems. I spoke too soon about the highlights... it may have taken them all day, but they're up:Highlights: Everton Under-18s 3-0 West Ham Under-18sAnd that first goal by Metcalfe is just brilliant, a curling shot from out wide at the side of the box, over the keeper and in under the bar. My favourite type of goal. Great to see his celebration. No wonder he was a bit proud of himself! Then watch his dribble and through-ball for the second. Fine stuff! Tony Abrahams 12 Posted 19/10/2021 at 12:23:33 That dribble and through-ball, is the type of thing that I enjoy the most Michael, especially when the pass is hit at exactly the right time, putting defenders on their heels. Thanks for those highlights, I enjoyed them. 👠Add Your Comments In order to post a comment, you need to be logged in as a registered user of the site. » Log in now Or Sign up as a ToffeeWeb Member — it's free, takes just a few minutes and will allow you to post your comments on articles and Talking Points submissions across the site.
