The home side pushed hard and played a high line in the early stages but the Everton defence were well structured, repelling a succession of Liverpool attacks. But they finally conceded after 20 minutes. Halid Djankpata made a good run and came very close to scoring for Everton with his shot minutes later. But Liverpool hit the bar then somehow missed an open goal. A very rash tackle by Tierny saw him booked as the Liverpool player needed treatment. Zan-Luk Leban, who had made a number of good saves off Liverpool players, had to produce one of his best moments to palm away a very awkward goalbound backpass from Ed Jones just before the ref blew for half-time. Article continues below video content The one-way traffic continued into the second half, with Jack Butler on for Harry Wright, Leban forced into another great save and a shot deflecting just wide before a good pass was used to punish the Everton defence and make it 2-0 with 40 minutes left on the clock. Martin Sherif and Sam Coughlan came on in a double substitution and Sherif used his size well, bashing one shot off the Liverpool crossbar within a few minutes. But Liverpool countered and another fantastic save was needed from Leban. Liverpool drove forward again and scrambled in a third goal just after the hour-mark, and forced a number of exceptional saves from Leban before they scored again in the last minute for an emphatic 4-0 defeat to the dejected Blues. Danny O’Neill 2 Posted 30/10/2021 at 11:14:12 Michael. I've signed up to various London club membership schemes to get tickets and I am toying with the idea of paying a £38 membership fee for Wolves so I can then pay for a home ticket for Monday night. Now you are teasing me and pulling the reluctant horse to the water. If I get my red nephew to subscribe and borrow his login, does that avoid the need for confession tomorrow?? Michael Kenrick 3 Posted 30/10/2021 at 12:10:23 Kinda wishing I'd not subscribed... we never do well when I watch them play these buggers. Dave Abrahams 4 Posted 30/10/2021 at 12:32:16 The U18's have talked this Derby game up all week how they are looking forward to it and then on the day the talk seemed to evaporate and they got hammered, or maybe they just got beat by a better and more prepared team who leave the talking and just concentrate on playing, I never saw the game but pregame attitude seems to mirror the first team's talk and preparation for a lot of Derby games.Good job they had Leban in goal, always impresses as a safe and very brave goalkeeper, he was one of the main reasons they got to the semi final of the FA youth cup last season. Brent Stephens 5 Posted 30/10/2021 at 12:35:19 Sherif showing quite brightly. Michael Kenrick 6 Posted 30/10/2021 at 13:06:12 I liked the look of Sherif, Brent, a big boy who handles himself with confidence. Danny O’Neill 7 Posted 30/10/2021 at 13:16:39 Agree Dave. Just don't talk and save it for the pitch. Brent Stephens 8 Posted 30/10/2021 at 13:35:36 Michael, yes Sherif looked good. Though I wasn't there to see it with my own eyes, so. !Not a small lad, is he!Wait till he progresses to the first team - and then cue all the puns on the Live Forum! "shot"; "spurs"; "Omar God did you see that"; "got us out of gaol"; "bound to be transferred to Nottingham"; etc. Jim Bennings 9 Posted 30/10/2021 at 15:28:28 There's the youth for you anyway, schooled again!
