Everton gave up two goals in the first 20 minutes but hit back before the break when Emilio Lawrence scored — a Martin Sherif through ball found Lawrence, who showed fabulous composure to calmly slot the ball low into the corner from just inside the box. And in the second half, that man Francis Okoronkwo stepped up again to level the match. Nash brilliantly found Okoronkwo with a kick from his hands and the attacker carried the ball from just inside the United half before exquisitely curling the ball into the far corner to restore parity on 50 minutes. Dave Abrahams 3 Posted 22/01/2022 at 20:56:54 I think Emilio Lawrence has got excellent potential, but I believe he is another young player who won't be joining the club on a permanent basis when the time comes for him to sign a new contract. Another Premier League club are very interested in him and seem to be the favourites to sign him. Phill Thompson 4 Posted 23/01/2022 at 15:26:54 Dave, let's see how things go. Liverpool wanted Lawrence when he was about 13 but he signed for us. He's only 16, so we're talking about a Scholarship starting next July, we can sweeten that deal by offering a “ guaranteed†pro contract at 17. It's hard to have faith when the club is in a mess, but Lawrence, Sherif and Samuels-Smith have been given a lot of game time at U18; it would be a shame to lose any of them but as I said let's wait and see. Phill Thompson 5 Posted 23/01/2022 at 15:39:12 Looking at clips of our goals, it's not as the official site says, it was Djankpata who played the ball into the 6 yard box for Lawrence to score. A brilliant goal from Okoronkwo though. He was touted as a winger when he first joined us and you can see why, allied with the scoring ability he has he's proving a great purchase. Dave Abrahams 6 Posted 23/01/2022 at 16:32:16 Phill (4), yes let's wait and see… but Dobbin was offered a contract over 6 months ago, still hasn't signed it. He has been offered a great deal by a foreign club and most probably is waiting for Everton to improve their offer, not necessarily to match the foreign club's deal. The club very interested in Lawrence isn't Liverpool. Sam Hoare 7 Posted 23/01/2022 at 17:13:27 Interesting info as always, Dave and Phil. Ensuring the best talent stays has got to be a priority, especially given how poor our recruiting from outside has been.I wonder if Thierry Small has any regrets given the fate of Lucas Digne?!Great that Okoronkwo continues to shine, though for the first time in years wingers are the one thing we have excess of. If only there was a Declan Rice type breaking through; nice to see Onyango get minutes yesterday but I still have doubts as to his ability to reach the top levels. Dave Abrahams 8 Posted 23/01/2022 at 21:39:05 Sam (7),I was never sold on Thierry Small as a full back, looked better when he attacked than he did defending and the lad Phill mentions above Samuels - Smith looks a better prospect to me in the same position plus he can play centre back too, with the other two lads Phill talks about Sherif and Okoronkwo also looking very good prospects although it is said that Okoronkwo could cost us up to £1M if he goes all the way. Phill Thompson 9 Posted 24/01/2022 at 10:43:32 Dave, Dave, Dave!, you're surely not complaining that if Okoronkwo “ goes all the way†he'll cost us £1mill, he'll be worth a minimum 20 times that if he makes it to our first team 😀 Dave Abrahams 10 Posted 24/01/2022 at 10:52:23 Phill (9), Definitely not Phill, just making a statement of fact and pointing out that we could pay £1M for this lad and yet will not secure the signings of Dobbin and Lawrence by investing in them, through wages, as well. Phill Thompson 11 Posted 24/01/2022 at 16:50:12 Just joking, Dave, but yeah it is hard to figure out our policy particularly for Dobbin, a player now with first-team squad experience whose contract we should have sown up before now. Lawrence is different, I'm not sure he'll get much better wages as a 16-year-old Scholar elsewhere, but he may prefer the promises made by another club. On the other hand, he could sign with us and still leave this time next year on a pro contract with another club as he'll be 17 then. Dave Abrahams 12 Posted 24/01/2022 at 17:04:32 Phill (11), Yes Lawrence could do exactly as you say until he is seventeen and then him, his family and possibly more importantly his agent will look at the offers coming in for him and make his mind up for him, if his potential bares fruit. I hope Lawrence and Dobbin stay with Everton. Phill Thompson 13 Posted 24/01/2022 at 17:07:34 Yeah me too Dave. Michael Kenrick 14 Posted 25/01/2022 at 21:33:18 Manchester United have confirmed their U18s will host Everton at Old Trafford in the 5th Round of the FA Youth Cup on Wednesday, 9 February at 19:00 GMT.
