Season › 2021-22 › News Rondon Hat-Trick for Venezuela Saturday, 29 January, 2022 40comments | Jump to most recent Venezuela's hopes of reaching Qatar were long over before they kick-off against Bolivia in South American qualifies for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, but Rondon produced a clinical display. His near-post header and then low finish into the corner put the hosts in control in Caracas before Bruno Miranda replied with a bullet header to give Bolivia hope at the break. Darwin Machis robbed goalkeeper Carlos Lampe after a defensive mix-up to extend Venezuela's advantage before Leonel Justiniano was shown a straight red card on the hour mark for a stamp. Rondon, who has managed just one goal in 6 months with Everton, completed his hat-trick midway through the second half with an emphatic finish high past Lampe. All very good goals. He looks as fit as a fiddle. I would like to see him produce that sort of form for us. Colin Glassar 2 Posted 29/01/2022 at 09:30:33 There's no place like home. Probably a good creole breakfast (arepas, caraotas, arroz, queso, platanos etc..) washed down with a cafecito helped improve his physical and mental state. Dave Abrahams 3 Posted 29/01/2022 at 09:38:40 Told yis, many times, that Rondo would come good in the second half of the season!! Brian Murray 4 Posted 29/01/2022 at 09:42:20 Tony. Hope he's lost his passport Keith Harrison 5 Posted 29/01/2022 at 09:49:50 So are you suggesting a full English and gallon of tea at the Goodison Caff are all he requires, Colin?I'm hoping the redshite reps flying over to South America sign him, and leave Diaz open for us!! Iakovos Iasonidis 6 Posted 29/01/2022 at 10:33:54 Well done, Rondon, maybe he has some value now? I would sell for £2-3M. Colin Glassar 7 Posted 29/01/2022 at 10:47:00 Or maybe it's just the heat, Keith? Dale Rose 8 Posted 29/01/2022 at 11:04:02 Frank hasn't even signed yet and Rondon has come good... You couldn't fucking make it up. Peter Carpenter 9 Posted 29/01/2022 at 11:42:31 Three good goals for Rondon! He heads, he moves, he spins, he shoots, he scores! Rob Halligan 10 Posted 29/01/2022 at 11:43:07 Just seen Rondon's hat-trick for Venezuela. Sign him up quick! Jay Wood[BRZ] 11 Posted 29/01/2022 at 12:16:33 Three quality finishes by the big fellah, it has to be said.Venezuela 4 Bolivia 1 Rob Halligan 12 Posted 29/01/2022 at 12:21:26 Keith # 5. I'm hearing Everton are sending a delegation to Venezuela, with strict instructions to pick Rondon up and then continue flying south to The Falkland Islands. It's rumoured that Port Stanley, who play in the tenth tier of the Argentine league put an offer in for him. John Graham 13 Posted 29/01/2022 at 12:34:16 Wish we could play against that defence. Surely that's not their number one goalie, it's got to be one of the fans who have sneaked onto the pitch.Must admit he looks a lot fitter than when he first came to the club. John Raftery 14 Posted 29/01/2022 at 12:50:30 Perhaps we can sell him to a club desperate to strengthen their strike force! Having seen his goals, I must say they were all good finishes. I assume he had the support of his home crowd and not the murmur of discontent to which he has sometimes been subjected in the last few months... Having the fans on your side tends to help players deliver their best performances. Ian Bennett 15 Posted 29/01/2022 at 12:53:40 He can stay there, don't bother coming back. We have some terrible players, and he's the latest to that list. Chris Breedon 16 Posted 29/01/2022 at 12:56:32 Hat-trick for Rondon vs Bolivia. Surely that's on par with Ronaldo maybe getting a brace against Ilkeston Rovers? He's still crap. Why do we have to wait for players to probably come good? Let's get players in that are already on top form. Hopefully Lampard has a few midfielders and a striker lined up for us. God knows we need them. Alan J Thompson 17 Posted 29/01/2022 at 14:54:21 I've always queried the service and crosses to Rondon, after all, he's not exactly been a moving target. Mark Ryan 18 Posted 29/01/2022 at 17:20:56 Rob @ 12 lol, class Paul Swan 19 Posted 29/01/2022 at 21:53:17 Fair play to him, took all 3 goals well. He was brought in as cover and no-one ever thought he would need to be thrown in to play most games. I hope he gets some confidence from this and can forget the dog's abuse he's been getting, week-in & week-out. Is he really any worse recently than any of our other forwards on recent form? David Currie 20 Posted 29/01/2022 at 22:00:55 Bolivia must be utter Shite? Tony Hill 21 Posted 29/01/2022 at 22:11:14 Paul @19, brave post. I think Rondon became a fixation for Benitez, unfortunately, in the context of the dog's abuse that he received as manager. The answer to your closing question is "no", but he was brought in by Benitez so the correct answer is "yes". Peter Neilson 22 Posted 29/01/2022 at 22:32:00 Good lad, happy for him, but a hat trick against Bolivia, FIFA ranking 77th in the world, just ahead of Curaçao but slightly behind Iraq. You can only play the team in front of you. Most weeks that's not Bolivia. Means nothing in our league. Scott Ellis 23 Posted 29/01/2022 at 22:46:46 Firstly, playing in the Premier League is a higher standard of football, and he had just struggled to reach the level required in the past 4 months. If he was in the Championship, he would be scoring every week, and look a decent player. Secondly, he was so far from fit when he arrived, he should never have been give the amount of game time he was allowed. But somehow, he was allowed to get fit, at the team's expense. For most games he was involved in, we played with 10 men, as he just didn't get involved, the game passed him by.Anyway hopefully he can move on and we will get some kind of a fee for him. Eddie Dunn 24 Posted 29/01/2022 at 23:11:17 Jesus! he looks good in that game and so lean! Will Mabon 25 Posted 29/01/2022 at 23:21:51 Really good goals, but more than that, watch his movement and positioning. Very sharp. Don't know what to make of it really. Has the high quality fitness & tactical training at Finch Farm suddenly kicked in? Bob Parrington 26 Posted 30/01/2022 at 01:45:42 Does this mean that he has good players with him in the Venezuela team who create a supply line to him? And there are no such players in the Everton team? TIC! Nicholas Ryan 27 Posted 30/01/2022 at 03:51:10 It's a sobering thought, that if we were to purchase the striker who has most recently scored an international hat-trick, we'd be buying Salomon Rondon!! Laurie Hartley 28 Posted 30/01/2022 at 05:53:13 Will # 25 - you saw what I saw. I think it is down to the things you mentioned:Fitness,Movement,Positioning.Plenty of completion for the striker spot in the second half of the season going on that performance. Derek Knox 29 Posted 30/01/2022 at 06:15:53 Thanks for the link Jay @ 11, doesn't look like the same player, maybe there is faint hope he will come good, or accept an offer for him, if one were to come in! Brian Murray 30 Posted 30/01/2022 at 09:01:40 Just seen Rondon's third goal for his country, the movement and finish! Will the real Rondon come out and show yourself, for fuck's sake. Dave Abrahams 31 Posted 30/01/2022 at 15:22:21 Jay (11), thanks for that link. 20- or 30-minute spells at the end of some games, to give a rest to Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison might provide some relief and two or three goals for the Blues. Might!! Will Mabon 32 Posted 30/01/2022 at 15:36:12 Laurie, it may have all clicked back into place (relatively speaking) to stay. Let's hope it transfers to the game back here now, we need everything we can get. Tony Abrahams 33 Posted 30/01/2022 at 15:38:30 Thanks, Jay, we obviously want better.I think if Rondon's debut would have been against Brentford, then people would have a different opinion of the man. Although I'm certain that most people won't agree with me on this. Bill Rodgers 34 Posted 30/01/2022 at 16:15:28 It happens far too often that a player bombs for us but does alright elsewhere. How do we account for that? Paul Birmingham 36 Posted 30/01/2022 at 19:54:51 Pent up frustration, his first game free of the shackles of the last managers mandate on how to train and play football?Alls up for grabs let's see what Frank and his coaches decide. Nick Bower 37 Posted 30/01/2022 at 20:19:28 Paul @ 19 - Every dog has it's day Steve Little 38 Posted 31/01/2022 at 08:02:51 This reminds me of how Josh King rarely looked like scoring for us but then happily slotted a hat-trick against us once he moved on.These players are not as rubbish as many think - we have just found ways to avoid getting the best out of them. Laurie Hartley 39 Posted 31/01/2022 at 11:13:00 Steve # 38 - well let's hope Lampard can this sort of performance out of him if or when he gets a start. Martin Reppion 40 Posted 31/01/2022 at 15:35:30 Always pleased when a Blue does well for his country. It can only make him feel better about himself. That has a chance of benefiting him when he comes back to the club. The post saying that Rondon would score every week in the Championship interests me though. Against Hull City,, he looked leggy and never came anywhere near scoring, or creating a chance.Maybe a work-out back home in the sun was what he needed. Grant Rorrison 41 Posted 31/01/2022 at 21:15:52 Rondon got Benitez sacked. He will always be a legend in my eyes!
