Season › 2021-22 › News Everton U23s win at Derby County Michael Kenrick Monday, 21 February, 2022 31comments | Jump to most recent Derby County U23s 0 - 2 Everton U23s Everton U23s won at Derby County tonight with two goals from Tom Cannon. And David Unsworth starts with pretty much his strongest squad, sans loanees Ellis Simms and Lewis Warrington, with Charlie Whitaker and a few others out injured. No sign of Billy Crellin, the new goalie. Everton were a little slow to get going but took the lead against the run of play when Cannon controlled the ball well and made space to his left before firing an unstoppable shot into the top corner to put the Blues ahead. Tom Cannon got a second when a lovely cross from Seb Quirk was bundled over the line by hin at the far post. And he almost got his hat-trick minutes later with a fabulous strike off another feed from Quirk down the right at was cleared off the line. Dobbin then got clear with a straight run in on goal but fired his shot too close to the keeper. Derby had two very good chances near the end but failed to score. Everton U23s: Tyrer, Quirk [Y:91'], John, Welch (56' Campbell), Astley, Anderson, Mills (66' Butterfield), Price [Y:37'], Cannon, Onyango (56' Hughes), Dobbin. Subs not Used: Leban, Kristensen. Disclaimer Brent Stephens 1 Posted 21/02/2022 at 19:21:33 Great left foot goal from Cannon. Was that a Price pass? Beauty. Phill Thompson 2 Posted 21/02/2022 at 19:23:00 Doesn't score enough, Cannon, but the ones he does score are often beauts like that. Steve Stallwood 3 Posted 21/02/2022 at 19:30:31 Have either of you got a link to this please, I'm a member but can't find where to go. Brent Stephens 5 Posted 21/02/2022 at 19:38:21 Steve. EFC Home page just under first article Jay Wood[BRZ] 6 Posted 21/02/2022 at 19:42:43 Got it Brent. Thanks. Just wound back to the goal.Great through ball by Price. Stonking finish by Tom. Brent Stephens 7 Posted 21/02/2022 at 19:48:26 Onyango disappointing for me. But Price continues to prod and probe with some nice passing. Jay Wood[BRZ] 8 Posted 21/02/2022 at 19:53:39 Calls to play Onyango in the first team are way too premature for me, Brent.Hard to tell how much his very bad leg break at Man City last season has impacted on this season, but he is seldom a standout for the U23s, is he?Just caught the last 10 minutes, so how has the game gone and individuals played in the first half? Jay Harris 9 Posted 21/02/2022 at 19:56:10 Trying to get the game but I click on the link and get an interview with DCL. Brent Stephens 10 Posted 21/02/2022 at 19:57:49 Jay Harris, that's okay. It's the half-time feature. Brent Stephens 11 Posted 21/02/2022 at 20:00:00 Jay Wood (too many Jays). Yes I like Onyango but calls for him to play for the first team are so premature. Jay Harris 12 Posted 21/02/2022 at 20:01:18 Duh. Half-time interview. Missed the first half mainly thanks to a difficult to find link on the official site.Wouldn't be Everton if they made it easy. Brent Stephens 13 Posted 21/02/2022 at 20:02:15 Sorry, Mr Harris. It's the small-sized link under the larger size piece on DCL. Brent Stephens 14 Posted 21/02/2022 at 20:28:35 Mishit from Cannon for a goal a yard out. Neil Copeland 15 Posted 21/02/2022 at 20:28:56 0-2, a second for Cannon - mishit but they all count!Sorry Brent, you beat me to it Jay Wood[BRZ] 16 Posted 21/02/2022 at 20:32:04 Nice build up to the goal. Our best passing phase of the 2nd half. Good cross by Quirk.Whoopsy-Daisy finish by Tom Canon! Brent Stephens 17 Posted 21/02/2022 at 20:38:51 Cannon scored with his swinger without even swinging it! Michael Kenrick 18 Posted 21/02/2022 at 20:47:11 Have we made any subs? Brent Stephens 19 Posted 21/02/2022 at 20:47:23 The passing from Price has been just superb. Jay Wood[BRZ] 20 Posted 21/02/2022 at 20:48:28 Oh, Lewis. That should have been three. Well done their keeper. Michael Kenrick 21 Posted 21/02/2022 at 20:48:31 Butterfield and Campbell... on for whom? Brent Stephens 22 Posted 21/02/2022 at 20:49:20 Campbell for Welch, and Hughes for Onyango on 56m. Butterfield for Mills on 68m. Phill Thompson 23 Posted 21/02/2022 at 20:50:07 Michael, Welch and Onyango off, Campbell and Hughes on. I think that's been it for subs,Butterfield on for Mills too Michael Kenrick 24 Posted 21/02/2022 at 20:50:27 Ah great, thanks Brent! Tony Abrahams 25 Posted 22/02/2022 at 08:21:17 Something about Issac Price that tells me he will improve with better players around him, Brent, and he's also blessed with great energy, so he just needs to gain a little bit more weight maybe? Brent Stephens 26 Posted 22/02/2022 at 09:49:48 Yes, Tony, young Isaac Price doesn't have much beef on him. Having said that, he's not scared to get stuck in. Will the club have him on a programme to increase bulk? We'll have to wait and see. Dave Abrahams 27 Posted 22/02/2022 at 11:29:16 Tony (25), You're on holiday watching the U23s? What a supporter!
