Season › 2021-22 › News Injury forces Nathan Broadhead out of Wales squad Michael Kenrick Tuesday, 24 May, 2022 6comments | Jump to most recent Nathan Broadhead has been forced to withdraw from the Wales squad for June's World Cup play-off final and four Nations League matches. The 24-year-old Everton forward has scored 13 goals in 27 appearances for Sunderland on loan this season and was included for the first time when the Wales Manager, Robert Page, last week named an extended 27-man squad seemingly designed to help manage a congested summer fixture list. His side face either Scotland or Ukraine in Cardiff on Sunday, 5 June, as Wales aim to qualify for a first World Cup since 1958.Four days before that huge encounter, Wales visit Poland in the Nations League. They then host the Netherlands and Belgium on 8 and 11 June, before travelling to the Netherlands for their final game of this window on 14 June. But Broadhead will miss all of these games through injury. Reader Comments (6) Note: the following content is not moderated or vetted by the site owners at the time of submission. Danny O’Neill 2 Posted 24/05/2022 at 12:29:08 Saw a rumour Sunderland want him on a permanent deal and Everron are open to it. Ajay Gopal 3 Posted 25/05/2022 at 07:55:26 The Everton injury curse strikes again! Last year, I remember Simms got hit with an end-of-season injury that prevented him from featuring in the playoffs for Blackpool and kept him out of action for most of the first half of the season. On a positive note, I read that Nathan Patterson has been selected for the Scotland squad for their upcoming internationals. Hopefully, he gets some game time and then has a good pre-season so that he is ready to take over from Seamus right from the beginning of the season. Phill Thompson 4 Posted 25/05/2022 at 14:25:24 Ajay, Patterson too is still coming back from injury and as I understand it won't be ready for Scotland's first game but hopefully will feature in other games. Jay Harris 5 Posted 25/05/2022 at 15:54:35 It's a shame for Nathan Broadhead. He has been plagued by injuries but, in the games I watched him play for Sunderland, he was excellent and his goalscoring record is pretty good. Justin Doone 6 Posted 25/05/2022 at 16:34:16 A real shame for the lad but Sunderland have just been promoted and if they want him, sell, sell, sell.£5-8M?
