Season › 2022-23 › General Forum Southampton sack Nathan Jones after just 3 months By Michael Kenrick 12/02/2023 Share: Southampton, who sit bottom of the Premier League, 3 points behind Everton, have sacked manager Nathan Jones after just 3 months in the job. The former Luton Town boss Jones leaves with Saints bottom of the table after Saturday's loss to 10-men Wolves. The Welshman lost 9 of the 14 matches he oversaw in all competitions following his appointment on 10 November, including 8 defeats in 9 Premier League games and 4 successive home losses at St Mary's. Paul Birmingham 2 Posted 12/02/2023 at 10:03:10 Soton just sacked Nathan Jones. But now to plan to beat the RS.UTFTs! Barry McNally 3 Posted 12/02/2023 at 10:14:21 Lampard waiting by the phone! Rob Halligan 4 Posted 12/02/2023 at 10:18:37 Southampton have an horrendous run of fixtures coming up, including Chelsea, Leeds, Leicester, Man Utd and Spurs. They could be the first team cut adrift at the end of those next five games. How on earth did we lose to them, even accounting for our poor form prior to last week??? We should have been good enough to have beaten them. Chris Leyland 5 Posted 12/02/2023 at 10:30:10 His one and only solitary win in the league as Southampton manager? No prizes for guessing where that came. Barry McNally 6 Posted 12/02/2023 at 10:31:37 P9 L8 in PL. Joe McMahon 7 Posted 12/02/2023 at 10:52:51 Chris @5, Bingo! As we all know, Everton are that gift that keeps giving to all struggling teams. It's in the fabric of The People's Club. Lee Courtliff 8 Posted 12/02/2023 at 12:01:55 I'm not even surprised we're the only team he managed to beat. Just like I'm not the least bit surprised when a bang average striker ends his 11 game goal drought against us. It's what we do!! Ajay Gopal 9 Posted 12/02/2023 at 12:10:42 Guys, losing to Southampton was Lampard's devious plan to keep Jones in the manager seat, lulling Southampton's owners into thinking he was doing a good job until it was too late to make a change. One competitor out of the way in the race for survival!Seriously, I am now genuinely worried on who the Bottom 3 would be. The Leeds and Aston Villa home games are crucial for our chances of survival. We need a minimum of 3 points from these 2 games, and hopefully all 6. Nick Page 10 Posted 12/02/2023 at 12:55:31 The Southampton loss was the absolute bottom of the barrel and showed that under FF we were appalling. I had a feeling that Jones was for the chop when he lost it in the press conference last week, ranting about the team. Then he doubled down. Totally out of his depth. Dale Self 11 Posted 12/02/2023 at 13:14:43 Out of his depth, the only coach with worse body language and sideline presence than Frank. Oh by the way we don't want to see your physique, wear the suit dumbass Leeds and Saints twitch after Dyche plays an ace. I think our position has improved immensely. Sorry Nick i stole a line there Rob Halligan 12 Posted 12/02/2023 at 13:33:39 Southampton don't plan on having a new manager in anytime soon, as their lead coach, whatever that is, will be in charge for their game at Chelsea next Saturday. Maybe their board are thinking it's a waste of time hurrying to appoint a new manager as they probably think their time is up as regards the Premier League. Rob Halligan 13 Posted 12/02/2023 at 13:49:42 Just read that Jones had a 3½-year contract with Southampton. That's an awful lot of compo to be paid out! Soren Moyer 14 Posted 12/02/2023 at 15:41:20 Lampard was so bad that Nathan Jones's ONLY WIN came at Goodison Park!!!! And he lost all the other 7 games, for fuck's sake! Brendan McLaughlin 16 Posted 14/02/2023 at 23:06:21 Southampton used to be regarded as a "well run" (whatever that means) club. A few poor managerial appointments and they are staring down the barrel of relegation.A manager is always the significant difference between success and failure Jay Harris 17 Posted 15/02/2023 at 17:42:19 Apparently Jesse Marsch is being lined up.
