Former Director Ismailov hit with sanctions

Former Everton director, Sarvar Ismailov, has been hit with sanctions by the British Government.

Ismailov, a nephew of already-sanctioned Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov, was today named among a list of new figures to be hit with sanctions following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Ismailov, whose assets have been frozen, was appointed to Everton's Board of Directors last year before stepping down in November due to "personal and health reasons". He had also held commercial roles within the club.

In a statement, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said: "Also sanctioned today are Sarvar and Sanjar Ismailov, nephews of major Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov who has close ties to the Kremlin. Both Sarvar and Sanjar have significant interests in the UK, it is believed that they own homes in Highgate and Hampstead Heath."

I suspect the security services will also be investigating Mr Moshiri's business relationship to the Usmanovs. There are many who believe that it is similar to that which existed between Sooty and Harry Corbett.

Ha! I was thinking it was some obscure reference to English financial skullduggery. Yes, that was a good one.

And yes being colonial I had to look it up.

Brilliant, John, I suspected that there's a few more puppets on the board!

Haha, very good, John!... but I'd be very surprised, and concerned, if they haven't already.

I wasn't going to look at this thread, I thought it was not worth it.

But John, that post has no follow-on. One the best on ToffeeWeb. Brillant.

The board could do with a clean Sweep, John, who knows if anybody will try to Sue us for our financial ineptitude.

They may be able to link Farhad Moshiri to Alisher Usmanov but they may be biting off a bit more than they should try to chew if they want to take a British citizen's rights from him. I'd much rather see somebody coming up with a plan for the immediate cessation of trading oil and gas from Russia and finding an alternative, just another example of economics ruling policy. Reminds me of Shell, I think, refusing to develop a gas field off Australia as they feared it would cause a glut of gas driving down prices.

That'll wipe (his smile off) Ismailov. :-)
