Interest in Keane and Holgate?

| 20/01/2023 10comments  |  Jump to last

Michael Keane has emerged as a target for Serie A side Salernitana if a report from Italy has any substance.

The Campania-based club are looking at bringing in reinforcements to bolster their battle to stay in the Italian top flight this season and Keane was apparently offered to them.

According to TuttoSalernitana, Salernitana are in talks with Keane's agent about the possibility of a move from Everton where he has fallen down the pecking order and hasn't played since the Carabao Cup defeat at Bournemouth in November.

The Blues are known to be entertaining bids for fringe players as they seek to raise funds for incoming transfers but up until now, Keane has only been talked about in terms of a loan.

Nottingham Forest and West Ham were linked at one stage but speculation has since gone quiet but the former are now said to be looking at Mason Holgate, possibly on loan.

Mention of Italian football:

Juventus have been docked 15 points following an investigation into the club's past transfer dealings, Italy's football federation (FIGC) says.

The Serie A giants were accused of fixing their balance sheets by artificial gains from club transfers.

Moise Kean is done and dusted, Jeff. Juventus are required to buy him off us for £28m or whatever it was at the end of this season. They wanted to renegotiate the terms but we said no.

The slower pace at Serie A is actually perfect for Keane, who happens to never have any pace to burn and especially he is now in the wrong side of the 30s.

Not too many English players have excelled at Italy since David Platt at Bari (aside from Smalling & Abraham): it might be the lifestyle or language barriers.

Fingers crossed that this move materialises so that the club can get out of his contract that is only expiring in June 2025, FFS!

Lyndon, they also tried frantically this past summer to find a buyer for him so they could pay us off a year early. No luck.

Holgate stitched Keane up every time they played together. Holgate can go keep Keane, he is an experienced centre back, and a good squad member.

Dupont # 4, if lifestyle is a barrier to settling in Serie A, then I despair. The lifestyle down in Salerno looks pretty attractive from where I'm looking.

Also, I think things may have moved on recently. Players like Oina, Vieira and indeed Lookman have done ok as well as a few Scottish players like Hickey, Doig, Ferguson, Hendry and Henderson. Serie A is not what it was and the pace and style could suit Keane (who we discover is certainly no worse than Tarkowski and Coady - just less good at flinging himself in front of shots).

Serie A? According to Ian Rush it's like living in a foreign country.
