Season › 2023-24 › General Forum Win a signed Everton shirt by helping Yellow House charity By George McKane 22/03/2024 Share: Hello and good morning my dear friends, This may come as a shock to many of you but I have been in hospital — Arrow Park Cancer Ward 30, Room 15 — many months with cancer and the after effects of chemotherapy. I have given up going to The Dark House and to Everton games, writing on ToffeeWeb, and my work at Yellow House. I have passed on my work with Yellow House to Rachel and Christian who have been with YH since they were teenagers. They need help and support to maintain our services. I miss TW and the match very much. I hope you can support Yellow House and help keep it going, starting with a donation by way of entering the raffle to win a signed 2023-24 Everton shirt. This is my Legacy. Full details: Yellow House is a Registered Charity based in Central Liverpool with over 30 years’ experience. Most of the young people we work with are considered hard to reach for various reasons, however commonly all the young people we work with struggle with their mental health. Our main aim at Yellow House is to empower young people, by utilising the arts to promote positive mental health and wellbeing. Our Founder George has dedicated his life to Yellow House, but also has a huge devotion to his beloved Everton Football Club, which is why we were delighted that Everton Football Club have donated to Yellow House, a signed 23-24 Everton Shirt. To raise some much-needed funds, we are looking for donations of £5 per number to enter our lucky prize draw to win the signed shirt! All names will be added to our prize draw. Entries are unlimited at £5 a go. If you wish to you can pay more for your strip - the money raised will be George’s Legacy and will help to keep Yellow House going - your help is much appreciated. If you would be interested in taking part, please make your £5 (or more) donation to our local giving appeal at: https://localgiving.org/appeal/yellowhouseverton Here you will be able to leave add a message to your £5 donation. If you would prefer to do it in person, please get in touch with us via any of our socials or email admin@yellowhouse.org.uk and we can arrange for this to be sorted. On 30th May at 5pm we will go live and hold the draw where the lucky winner will be announced - keep your eyes peeled and good luck As always, thank you so much for all your support! I knew TW and Blues would respond well. Up The Blues Tony Abrahams 7 Posted 22/03/2024 at 10:49:17 Lovely to hear from you, George, mate, but just wish it was to hear from you under better circumstances. It's nice to see your spirit remains though George, but I wouldn't expect anything different from an arl Cardinal Godfrey Toffee!Keep fighting, George, because if there's one person everyone on these pages would love to bump into when the new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock finally opens, then I'm guessing it's you! 🙠George McKane 8 Posted 22/03/2024 at 11:34:26 Thank you, Tony, I do not wish to drag you all into the serious situation here - we Blues have enough of those to deal with. I am - like Everton - well supported. I manage to watch the games via my iPad when possible otherwise it's listening via The Official EFC Sites - and health of course. My thoughts while laying in bed - Medication, Treatments, Injections, Drips, Bedpans - are I am still trying. I think it was Marcus Aurelius who first wrote it - “to live a life worth living†- thanks again for your support.Up The Blues. Tony Abrahams 9 Posted 22/03/2024 at 11:52:56 Fighting - George, “fighting to live a life worth living†because you are loved and very well supported, and “you shall not be movedâ€.My head is gone with our club, George. Ratcliffe passed the test to part-own Manchester United in around one month, whilst 777 Partners have still got some convincing to do, even though they have been on it for seven months. I've just been reading that although they remain confident, no verdict is imminent until after Everton have heard the verdict from their second appeal, which is enough for me to try and get myself into a different type of hospital, with your old mate Randle McMurphy!Keep fighting, George, and once again it was a pleasure to hear from you. Christine Foster 10 Posted 22/03/2024 at 12:05:38 George, words are never enough, but a hug really does help. A vitual one is all I can send, but as Tony said, it's a fight worth winning, a seat in the new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, a tear in the eye because you did it. Because you're there. Hold fast that determination and know there are 40,000 fans behind you. Fight you bugger.. because it's your round at the Bramley Moore..:-) James Hughes 11 Posted 22/03/2024 at 12:21:02 George, Much love and respect for all that you have completed and contributed to, well everything.Always looked forward to your matchday posts and it sent me off looking for songs. I really hope you are able to get back to the Dark House and visit the new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock. So please keep fighting, if you can. Tony Dunn 12 Posted 22/03/2024 at 13:34:14 Sending you all the best, George… donated. "Those who love much, do much and accomplish much, and whatever is done with love is done well." Some of those kids needed that love and they got loads of it off you George, you don't won't or need praise George but give yourself a big pat on the back, not too hard, and here's a gentle one off me.I'll light a candle for you on Sunday George: You can pay me for it next time I see you!! Danny O’Neill 20 Posted 22/03/2024 at 18:32:26 Keep giving to the very good cause blues.George, I am up at the weekend for a family event on Monday. I will come and visit you. Paul Ferry 21 Posted 23/03/2024 at 05:27:20 May the higher being and every dead and living Evertonian bless you George.I've never been lucky enough to meet you except on the page but I admire you. I'm gutted that for now you can't glance out your window and see the new stadium rising from the earth. You're important George. You matter. You've made a big difference in so many walks of life, not least in the charitable and social and what Everton means on and off the pitch. Can I contribute from the other side of the Atlantic mate? What a legacy.Take comfort in the walls of affection and respect around you mate. I used to run cross country in Arrow Park for St Mary's in Crosby, Was is St Anslem's, I used to lose to? Dave Williams 22 Posted 23/03/2024 at 11:09:40 I was lucky enough to share a beer with you in the DH a few years ago.Having read about the Yellow House and your work there, you are clearly a great man of our great city, George, and I am proud to have met you. George McKane 25 Posted 26/03/2024 at 17:45:00 Hello Dave Abrahams and all on TW - Dave I was only informed today that you went into Yellow House last week to make a contribution for The Signed Shirt - and met with Rachel - hope you enjoyed your visit. Dave Abrahams 26 Posted 26/03/2024 at 18:43:58 George (25), I hope you are still fighting George and feeling a bit stronger,I lit the candle on Sunday and said a quiet prayer for you and will keep you in my prayers.I never actually met Rachael but had a nice chat to her and asked if it was okay to pass a donation into the office and leave it at the reception which I did.George if you didn't already know it, you are well loved and respected at Yellow House. I just mentioned to Rachael about the love that was given to young kids when they were in a bad place and went to Yellow House, she said she was one of those kids. She sounded like a very nice and well mannered young lady, a testament to the way she has been educated and guided by you, George, and other genuine people at Yellow House. Good luck and God bless George, maybe you are being watched over by that Priest you used to talk about in your posts at ToffeeWeb, can't remember his name. Keep fighting, George. Danny O’Neill 27 Posted 26/03/2024 at 20:18:59 Come on everyone. Keep this worthy cause going. George McKane 28 Posted 26/03/2024 at 21:30:44 Thank you both and all - God Bless Father Winder. Dave Abrahams 29 Posted 27/03/2024 at 10:23:03 George (28), When I read about Yellow House, through yourself mostly, I think about a great film, from before World War Two, Boystown starring Spencer Tracey and Mickey Rooney. It was based on a true story about a priest who took loads of homeless boys into his care and gave them a home and shelter and guided them into becoming better people, a cracking film. That's meant as a small tribute to you, George, what a real legacy that will be to you, George, 20 years from now hopefully. God Bless Father Winder and yourself. Eugene Ruane 30 Posted 27/03/2024 at 10:37:07 Donation made, all the very best to you George, you're what we used to call 'a good skin' (it was the Merseyside version of a good egg). Andy Crooks 31 Posted 27/03/2024 at 11:01:48 Top man, George. You light up everywhere you go. An honour a pleasure and a bloody proper laugh to have me you. Wishing you all the best in the world. George McKane 32 Posted 27/03/2024 at 18:27:03 Thank you all - Eugene and Andy - thank you.Believe it or not, Dave, I saw Boys Town when I was young. Always went to the movies with my Mum Anne. I remember thinking – honestly – I would love a life like that. After 10-12 years in a Bank, I then left and founded Yellow House and have had a really marvellous fulfilling life. Thank you all on TW for your support and kindness and contributions to my legacy (and yours) – The Yellow House.Go to YouTube - enter "yellowhouse Liverpool" and you can see what we do and watch lots of our young people talking about their time with us. You are all helping to keep that going - very much appreciated by all of us.Cosmic Grooves All The Way - your friend - George Mathijs Verhagen 33 Posted 30/03/2024 at 12:59:41 Dear George, I had the privilege of meeting you a few times in the Dark House. I can remember a wonderful night when we sat together with your mates after a 0-0 Merseyside derby a couple of seasons ago. I am very sorry to hear about your situation and wish you all the best from Leiden, the Netherlands.A proud Dutch Toffee Add Your Comments In order to post a comment, you need to be logged in as a registered user of the site. » Log in now Or Sign up as a ToffeeWeb Member — it's free, takes just a few minutes and will allow you to post your comments on articles and Talking Points submissions across the site.
