The great county of Yorkshire could provide Everton with some useful boosts for the 2024/25 Premier League season and beyond.

Famed for its historical links to the Bronte sisters, whose iconic literacy legacy is lovingly detailed at https://www.haworth-village.org.uk/, Yorkshire also has strong ties with the Merseyside club.

Several members of the current Everton squad hail from the white rose county including Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Ben Godfrey and Mason Holgate.

Manager Sean Dyche, who could pass for a Yorkshireman but for the fact he was born in Kettering, appears to have recognised the qualities that part of the country can offer his squad.

Dyche has made it clear he wants to bring Leeds United winger Jack Harrison back to Goodison Park after he spent last season on loan with the club.

With Leeds failing to win promotion from the Championship, the Toffees are bidding to exploit a clause in Harrison’s contract that allows him to leave Elland Road temporarily.

While his tally of three goals and three assists in 29 league appearances was a poor return, Harrison was a key component in Everton’s successful fight against relegation.

He offered balance on the right flank for the Toffees and securing his services for at least another season would be a shrewd move by the club.

Everton are also reportedly interested in taking Leeds-born midfielder Kalvin Phillips on loan from Manchester City next season.

Phillips failed to impress after joining West Ham United on loan in January and undoubtedly has a major point to prove after struggling to shine with Man City.

He signed for the reigning champions for £42.5 million in 2022, but has started just six games for the club in all competitions since that move.

City manager Pep Guardiola famously criticised Phillips for returning overweight from the 2022 World Cup, but subsequently apologised for using him so sparingly.

Phillips’ decision to join City was questionable given he was unlikely to dislodge Rodri from the starting XI and his career is now at a crossroads.

However, having sparkled for England at the 2020 European Championship, it is easy to see why Dyche thinks he would be a useful acquisition for Everton.

The manager is extremely adept at polishing rough diamonds and it would be no surprise to see Phillips return to his best under Dyche’s tutelage.

Given his previous performances for Leeds and England, there will likely be plenty of interest in Phillips during the upcoming summer transfer window.

A move abroad has been touted as a possible option, with RB Leipzig, Red Bull Salzburg and Roma all credited with an interest in the midfielder.

However, it is debatable whether Phillips would benefit from playing overseas, particularly given he has retained a strong affinity with his home county.

Being dropped from the England squad for the 2024 European Championship should provide Phillips with plenty of motivation to rediscover his best form next season.

The Three Lions are not overly blessed with midfield options and the 28-year-old still has time to force his way back into the national squad.

Heading abroad would potentially be counter-productive to his international ambitions, keeping him out of the spotlight in the run-up to the 2026 World Cup.

The Yorkshireman desperately needs to work with someone who can help him bounce back to his best and Dyche fits the bill in that regard.

Staying in the Premier League with Everton is a much more sensible move, and is one which would benefit both Phillips and the club.
