Everton interested in Ajax's Brobbey

| 20/07/2023 27comments  |  Jump to last

Everton are reportedly trying to hammer out a deal with Ajax for striker Brian Brobbey as Sean Dyche and Kevin Thelwell seek striking reinforcements heading into the new season.

To date, only Ashley Young has been signed by the Blues this summer, although a loan move for Arnaut Danjuma is in the works, and now the Liverpool Echo claim that Everton want to bring Brobbery in to add to their attacking options.

I hope he's not expensive. That would be daylight "Brobbery". Anyway, his name is "Brobbey" I believe, not "Brobbery".

I'd be surprised if this is true since he's the only striker on their books right now. I'd have thought some of the other young Dutch strikers knocking about are more gettable - like Boadu at Monaco, Piroe at Swansea. Unfortunately the excellent Malen of Dortmund started to come good last season so is probably out of our league now.

Maybe we'll end up with our own bargain basement version of AC Milan's 3 Dutchmen if Danjuma joins.

It concerns me that Bobajobbery went to Leipzig and found it tough, no goals in fourteen matches , maybe there was some mitigation?, and then went back to Ajax on loan and started scoring again in the Eredivisie.

The Premier League will be even tougher than his German experience. Makes me wonder whether he is good enough to make the step up. It'd be good to get the opinions of some of our Dutch fans on here, or anyone who has watched him.

Hope he can be our next Brobbey Latchford, knowing our luck though he'd be more like Mr Brobbey.

This signing doesn't bode well to me, one to avoid methinks... Didn't score a single goal whilst in Germany?...rather have the lad doing the business for Boro like!

In fairness, I think Leipzig only bought Bobbey speculatively because his contract was up. He was the same age as Katia Kouyate at the time. I wouldn't judge too much on his spell in Germany.

I have delved a bit deeper into my research on this option. If the price is right then probably worth a punt but actually looking at some Ajax fan feedback on him there have been a lot of niggling injuries that are of concern.

Still plenty of strikers out there, pick of the "possibly gettable" bunch for me is now Beto of Udinese. Portuguese too so we wouldn't lose him to the African Nations cup. I really wish we could have got Gyokeres though.

The Danjuma business (if it happens) changes the landscape somewhat I think. As many have rightly pointed out, he likes to play on the left of a front three. McNeil rightly occupies that space for us right now, though both can play on the right. If he comes I can't see us going for Gnonto even if we sell Gray. Surely someone wide right would be a priority, Harrison perhaps?

Just watched his showreel and he can play.

Keeps the ball low when striking with power which is a difficult skill under pressure and the one thing keepers hate.

If we get him and he stays fit he will make a difference.

I don't know much about his last couple of seasons, but if there's one forward I always wanted Everton to sign (within our range financially) it's Dembelle. There are rumours it's between Everton and Villarreal, who he signs for, so I'm hoping he's the player who ends up signing for The Blues🤞

Hi Tony [8] I have submitted part 3 of The 'Ups and Downs Of The Original Twelve', on the General Forum/ Messages Thread, and I'm looking for someone to set the ball rolling, I believe that I can rely on you to do so. Otherwise I will have spent quite a while for nothing, as a one 'fingered Typer' and 'one eyed' Reader it took me some time to complete it, I don't have a date for my next operation appointment, and I have decided to get as much done as I can.

At least there are rumours and the rumours are for players on the right position and of the correct profile

Thelwell may yet know what he's doing

Apparently he was lined up for Manchester United last season as he had played for Ten Hag at Ajax. He wanted to go but it didn't happen. If he's good enough for United he cant be bad.

Just read on the red echo, headlines about us to trying to sign him but reading on, after mentioning Brobbey by name, the article then talks about the shit we are in financially, and how it's difficult to sign anybody. They love us, don't they.

Tony @ 8,

There would be some kind of irony if Villarreal sigend Brereton-Diaz and Dembele after we'd been linked with both and then we were left with Danjuma, the guy making room for them at Villarreal.

Bit worrying that the main topic of interest today is our new away kit and we still havent signed a forward.

Unfortunately, Brobbey isn't interested in Everton.

Neither is Elanga.
He's chosen Forest

From what I have heard Elanga hasn't turned us down or we don't have the money, he was one of many of interest to Everton.

There is a hint of another signing possibly this weekend too

I seems there is not much money available. It is even being reported in the media that Simms was sold for £8M to pay off the ex-directors' severance package of £7M. I still think we will see a young striker brought in on a low-cost deal.

It says how much of an attraction Everton are that Jesse Lingard chose Forest over us and now Elanga chose them over us, and Moshiri says he needs Billy Big Bollox the Billionaire hunter to do his dealing for him.

What kind of a shit show are Everton running?

Jesse Lingard showed early promise at Manchester United.

He didn't impress at West Ham. I have spoken with West Ham friends and supporters.

Ross Barkley at Everton, as did Jack Rodwell, impressed early days.

Lingard is 30 years old. I am not judging on age, but it seems a few clubs have tried him out.

Am I concerned that Nottingham Forest signed him? Not really. More looking forward to who Everton sign.

Ralph we never went in for Lingaard. Rumours at the time were he wanted (and got) £200k a week.

Also on Elanga. Who's to say he chose Nottm Forest over us? We don't really know if he was even on our list of targets this summer.

A lot of this is just paper talk and website fodder designed for easy clicks.

Ismailia Sarr the latest name to surface. Think we should give that one a wide berth as I don't think he would be too much if an upgrade on Gray. He's a player who can look decent in the Championship but struggles for the step up. When he has his stats more or less mirrored Gray's.

The dependable journeyman or the risk of young burgeoning potential?

Che Adams again mentioned, but I think we need someone who offers more, especially as he may become our most fielded Striker due to Calvert-Lewin's absences.

Then we've got Brobbey, Dia, Bilal Toure, on the rumour radar, (hopefully Thelwell has other targets too) who would be a fair sized gamble but offer a bit more excitement and hope for a bigger upside in development, value and most importantly, goals. The board need to back Thelwell with all funds at their disposal to go down this latter route.

The rest of the positions can be wheeled and dealed or loans, if necessary. But we can't spare the horses on getting a proper striker into the club this time round.

Am hoping we get a surprise and unveil Iheanacho as our forward signing. I really think he's under-rated and has been in Vardy's shadow the last few years. He can play in a 4-4-2, 4-4-1-1 or on his own up top. I'd assume he'd be willing to leave Leicester to go back to the Premier League with us and don't think he's on massive wages there.

Here's hoping with less than 3 weeks to go… I still cannot believe we haven't signed a striker. Mirror image of 12 months ago albeit with the massive bonus that Lampard is gone.

Well, Boniface has gone to Leverkusen for €16M. That looks like a decent deal for a player that we had clearly shown an interest in. Bit of a shame because he would have fit the bill.

Other interesting movements include a young (giant) Dutch / Nigerian striker called Emegha joining Strasbourg from Austrian football. That indicates Habib Diallo might be on the move – with strongly rumoured interest from us and West Ham in the player.

Diallo is older and with a much stronger track record than Boniface. I expect he'd be a good signing. Might be something happening there soon.

Why aren't we snapping up Maitland-Nyles?

If ever a squad needed a good utility player, it's this one.

I'd have agreed about 18 months ago, Andrew, but Maitland-Niles plays like his heart's not in it now.
