Jordan Pickford was unbeaten in the England goal again, this time against Finland at Wembley in the Nations League Group B2 game on Wednesday evening.

Harry Kane broke the deadlock against a very defensive opponent, and ended up with the second goal also.

Just been reading (and hearing on every sports report!) that Harry Kane must be England's greatest ever player. Not goal scorer but player.

Really? Better than Banks, Bobby Charlton, Moore, Ball, Wilson……? Considering that 22 of his goals have been penalties …is he even our best goal scorer?

Anyone else have reservations about these claims?

Ray,

I could literally add over a 100 names to your list with plenty of strikers and goalscorers on it.

Yes, Dave, surely there's no suggestion of a southern bias…. or just the ‘football didn't exist before Sky' attitude.

Ray,

I think the reporters are different today than most of those from a different era.

Those from long ago mostly reported the facts of the game; today's are more concerned with their own profiles rather than concentrating on the facts.

Ray, apart from his 22 penalties, how many goals has he scored against the likes of last night's opponents, Finland?

Win the World Cup and then come and revive Everton's fortunes.

You know it makes sense, Lee.

I think the fawning over Kane from the English media was a bit cheesy as were the chosen golden boots.

Credit to his achievement, but to call him the greatest England player ever is a bit over the top.

Kane is decent but doesn't rate up there with some of the past legends, not yet anyway.

Scoring goals against the likes of Ireland and Finland is no guide rule and England beating teams like this is nothing great.

Carsely is in his infancy and like his predecessor has mountains of talent to call upon.

The best time to judge Kane and Carsely is when they come up against the elite teams.

Still cannot understand why he plays Grealish and Gordon together down the left and allows Arnold to play all over the shop when his predecessor got caned for it.

Luckily Ireland and Finland have little offence.

No its not a bit over the top Danny. It is MILES over the top.

I won't start naming the players who should have that assigned to them before Kane as they are too numerous to mention without boring the pants off everyone. Better still to mention a few of his inadequacies which prevent him having that accolade.

His first touch is that of an elephant at times, His knack of finding blind allies is good though. His pitch map shows he covers a lot of the pitch during a game although he would probably score more if he stayed nearer the penalty area. All in all his "end of season report" reads Could do much better. Looking for an improvement next season. Good but not there yet.

Kane has been a very good striker for his teams and for England but as for greatest ever England player he doesnt even rank in my top 50.

More media hype from the southern based over the top "influencers".

There was a whole squad better in 1966 because they actually won something, whereas Prince Harry was either anonymous or awful in 2 finals.

Who gives a shit how many goals (or penalties) he's scored v San Marino or Azerbaijan in these days of endless, pointless friendlies?
