Season › 2024-25 › News The Rumour Mill Speculation over Beto's future at Everton continues Michael Kenrick | 28/12/2024 82comments | Jump to last Speculation over Beto's future at Everton continues with Italian clubs interested to take him on loan but not to pay the transfer fee Everton are looking for in a permanent deal. Last month, it was rumoured that Juventus were put off the idea of signing Beto during the January transfer window after they had made an enquiry about the player's availability but because Everton's asking price was too high. And the latest suggestion is that Torino are actively seeking a replacement for their injured striker Duvan Zapata, with Beto as a viable option. The Granata are interested in securing him on a loan deal until the end of the season. Reports indicate that Torino are willing to pay between €3 million and €4 million for the loan, along with covering approximately €3.5 million in wages. However, Everton prefer a loan arrangement that includes an obligation to buy for around €20 million, a figure that Torino are not prepared to meet. The Italian club hopes that Beto’s desire to return to Italy will persuade Everton to agree to their terms. Disclaimer () Jack Convery 1 Posted 28/12/2024 at 11:17:15 The loan to Roma could be on and the sale of Calvert-Lewin too. I wonder if Roma have a couple of lads we could buy – on very favourable terms, of course? Les Moorcroft 2 Posted 28/12/2024 at 15:30:12 Beto is a tryer, appears to be a nice lad... but we need goals. We've got no space for sentiment. Good luck, lad. Peter Moore 3 Posted 28/12/2024 at 20:19:53 Yes, good luck, Beto, like a desperate pissed up young lad looking to pop his cherry, his full-steam-ahead, bull-in-a-China-shop routine has seen him fail to nail the goal he craves, all too often. Thanks for your genuine full-tilt efforts though, I always admire a proper trier. I was ever hopeful luck would change, a brace perhaps, and then a newer calmer finisher may have emerged that was prolific.Ever the optimist, me. Sad it did not come to fruition, but nothing but well wishes and thanks. May 2025 be a new page of success for Beto, with us or elsewhere. John Keating 4 Posted 28/12/2024 at 21:34:36 I can see the club letting either Beto or Calvert-Lewin go but not both. With Chermiti, Broja and Beto available, the Club may be tempted to get a few quid on Calvert-Lewin. Matthew Johnson 5 Posted 28/12/2024 at 22:26:19 Let them both go, strikers are wasted on us anyway.Play 6 across midfield and try to get as many corners as possible! Mike Price 6 Posted 28/12/2024 at 23:14:09 I agree about no place for sentiment, but that's not very Everton, is it!Watch this space for a new Coleman contract so after playing 5 games this season and getting paid £2 million, he can lead us out in our shiny new home. It really needs to end, and quickly. Brent Stephens 7 Posted 28/12/2024 at 23:30:41 "I agree about no place for sentiment, but that's not very Everton, is it! Watch this space for a new Coleman contract".Mike, do you really think we can already brand our new owners as sentimental old Everton? What says we give them a chance. How about a whole month? Ed Prytherch 8 Posted 28/12/2024 at 23:44:17 We paid too much for him and we will not get it all back when he leaves. I doubt that he has a future with Everton. Ed Prytherch 9 Posted 28/12/2024 at 23:56:17 Or offer them Calvert-Lewin for the same loan fee plus wages. Justin Doone 10 Posted 29/12/2024 at 00:31:22 It's not speculation that he's simply not good enough. A good attitude, gives it his best but lacks a footballing brain and plays like a teenager learning his trade, not an experienced 25-year-old.Priority is to cash in on Dom. We can't really let him leave on a free and £10M plus would be good value with only 5 months left to play. A right full-back and right winger are needed. Harrison works hard, Lindstrøm tries, but neither of these loans are good enough. Jim Bennings 11 Posted 29/12/2024 at 07:00:53 Neither Calvert-Lewin or Beto will be playing for Everton next season, so any offers that arrive must be listened to.Both ourselves and Calvert-Lewin need a fresh challenge and it's shown this season. We've had the limit of what he can give us during the Carlo Ancelotti era, we got the maximum then.Beto has never been good enough for more than a late chaos-causing sub appearance even though he gives everything to the cause, admittedly so.We've got to start thinking of ourselves progression-wise. Matt Traynor 12 Posted 29/12/2024 at 07:13:06 "along with covering approximately €3.5 million in wages" implies an annual wage of €7 million, or around €140,000 a week.No wonder the club's in financial shit street. Jimmy Carr 13 Posted 29/12/2024 at 07:53:37 The ToffeeWeb Brains Trust have met again. So let's sell Calvert-Lewin in January while we're selling or loaning Beto out, leaving us with just the untried twosome of Broja and Chermiti, and then don't forget to avoid relegation while we sell our best striker. What a brilliant and forward-thinking strategy! Here's an alternative. How about we let Dom carry on in the Number 9 role he's been playing all season (I think there's a clue there about how highly Dyche rates the player), let him help the club secure another season in the Premier League (remember that was the goal at the start of the season), and then continue the negotiations regarding a new contract when the dust settles? The risk of losing him for free (if that happens) will be more than off-set by us securing our Premier League status.Beto can go now Broja is fit; Dom needs to stay, he's our first-choice striker. These are two entirely separate issues. Eric Myles 14 Posted 29/12/2024 at 08:16:05 Matt #12, "along with covering approximately €3.5 million in wages."Where does that imply they're covering his full wages??? Colin Crooks 15 Posted 29/12/2024 at 08:30:11 Spot on, Jimmy. Some are still not getting this. What a quaint little notion that the club should listen to offers for Calvert-Lewin. Why would any club interested in signing him include us in the negotiations? We have no say in this.Calvert-Lewin remains our best option by a country mile. The fact that he has not had a sniff of a chance for a month is not down to him. A new manager may persuade him to stay. On the other hand, he may not even want him. We'll cross that bridge as and when… Pete Ellingham 16 Posted 29/12/2024 at 09:15:14 I just want Calvert-Lewin gone – I used to defend the guy but his record is appalling! The guy is slightly above average at holding the ball up, above average in the air, terrible at finishing, misses too many chances, he doesn't look interested and he hasn't got the aggression you need to be a top striker. Everton have offered him a new contract at a really exciting time and he isn't interested. Drop him immediately. I would still prefer Beto upfront. Calvert-Lewin has really pissed me off this season! Does he really think he is special? Joe McMahon 17 Posted 29/12/2024 at 09:17:48 Colin, not entirely true. There have been a few one-on-ones not taken, and points lost because of this; same last season. Kevin Edward 18 Posted 29/12/2024 at 10:13:08 I'd be surprised if another club bids to buy Calvert-Lewin in the January window, more likely to tap him up and wait until the summer. So Beto might go to loosen up some funds, may depend on what happens today (vs Forest) and Bournemouth next match. Lose both and Dyche might be ejected. Our other options might be more fruitful with another manager in place. I don't hate Dyche so much that I think he will relegate us, but he should have done better this season so far, regardless of the unlikely points picked up in December so far. Rob Hooton 19 Posted 29/12/2024 at 10:34:12 We can't sell Calvert-Lewin if he wants to wait his contract out and then get a bumper signing-on fee at his next club – the decision is his and his alone, the club cannot force a sale. Why would he want to leave in January when he is free to talk to other clubs and will likely get at least £10 million for waiting 6 months (and a bigger wage)? Beto is just not good enough for the Premier League, best to cut him loose and reevaluate in the summer, when we'll have to sign at least two strikers when Broja goes back to Chelsea. Matt Traynor 20 Posted 29/12/2024 at 10:49:25 Eric #14, it's my assumption, based on the fact they're also supposedly to pay a loan fee. However, your point is valid.Given he's not shown anything suggesting being a first-choice striker, even in a struggling Premier League side, and yet the wage he's likely on:- No wonder players like Branthwaite will push for a better contract or a move;- Clubs like Everton seem destined to just be makeweights (or worse) in the Premier League – especially if the usual suspects succeed in their campaign for a bigger share of overseas TV revenue (currently split equally).Luckily I fell out of love with the game some years ago. I'll always watch Everton when I can, but I really don't like the "sport" these days. Colin Crooks 21 Posted 29/12/2024 at 11:48:48 Joe @17"There have been a few one on ones not taken and points lost because of this"Good luck naming even one of them. Most of our chances in the last month have fallen to Harrison, but I'm happy for you to come back with an example to support your claim that Calvert-Lewin missed them. Pat Kelly 22 Posted 29/12/2024 at 12:01:04 Beto was a desperation ‘buy' as we had no money and the fee was deferred for a year. We paid nothing then and got nothing. Another wasteful acquisition. Thankfully, adults are now in charge and there is new financial backing. There's no future for Beto and Calvert-Lewin at Everton. Not sure about Chermiti either. Yet another rebuild awaits. Joe McMahon 23 Posted 29/12/2024 at 12:18:29 Beto, could have been given more games. The mistake with Lookman has not been learned. All new players players need a run, not 8 minutes at the end. Brian Williams 24 Posted 29/12/2024 at 12:33:52 Beto could have played every game since he's been here but would still be the "player" he is. He's not good enough, even for us.You don't need time to do the things that show you are a player of a certain level those things should be apparent all the time.He tries very hard but lacks the skill to be a Premier League player, IMO. Tom Bowers 25 Posted 29/12/2024 at 13:05:02 Beto is a big, strong, target man but Calvert-Lewin was the man always preferred because of one good season before his injury woes and Dyche had his set plan that doesn't include two target men. Now that Broja is fit and also Chermiti, one speculates if Dyche will omit Calvert-Lewin.With the 4-5-1 formation, along with the support from Ndiaye and Doucoure, it's likely Beto will be let go, but I would have liked him to have had more starts. John Schrempft 26 Posted 30/12/2024 at 10:25:49 Why not let Calvert-Lewin take Doucoure's place? He used to be a midfielder. No wonder he wants to leave. He hardly ever receives a decent cross or support. Mykolenko isn't able to put in a reasonable cross to to save his life. Patterson did better in the short time he was on.The referee was appalling, biased and blind. We received four yellow cards and Forest one. Says it all really. James Marshall 27 Posted 30/12/2024 at 10:30:03 Another useless signing that we'll all forget in the hurry. Okay, so he wore an old Everton shirt to train in, so naturally we all fall for the old luvvy lines about our 'istory and how important it is that players and managers 'get us'.Just another waste of money that sadly is sorely limited as a footballer and definitely limited as a goal scorer. Beto is just not very good, despite flashes of being alright. We're Everton, and therefore the chances of us signing a top quality striker ended in about 1992. Mike Gaynes 28 Posted 30/12/2024 at 19:18:00 I'll fly against the wind on this one. Ready for a series of oddball predictions?1. I think both the Beto and DCL Italy rumors are accurate, but Thelwell won't be foolish enough to ship both because it leaves us too thin. I say Dom goes in the window and Beto stays.2. By February 1 we have a new manager who likes to attack. So...3. In five weeks, maybe less, Beto and Broja are starting together up top and combine for maybe 8 goals the rest of the way... before...4. Both go bye-bye in the summer, Broja back to Chelsea and Beto to Serie A.Have I got everybody laughing yet? Mike Gaynes 29 Posted 30/12/2024 at 19:33:06 Joe #23, we made no mistake with Lookman. I loved the guy's ability, but in 48 appearances and 1700-plus minutes he repeatedly showed that he lacked consistency and commitment. It took him four and a half years of mostly indifferent loans, from when Sam first shipped him out in January 2018 to when he reached Atalanta in summer 2022, before he finally showed the maturity to live up to his talent. Good for him that the penny finally dropped, as you folks say, and he's become a superstar. But we could not have waited that long. As for Beto, he was a consistent 10-goal-a-season performer in Serie A and he might yet get the chance to knock in a few for us. Joe McMahon 30 Posted 30/12/2024 at 19:55:04 Colin@21, off the top of my head Villa this season and last season. The one v Ipswich we still got the points. You are a fan of this guy, I'm not. Let's move on. At the end of the day all Evertonians are pissed off.Mike@29, yes you are correct I forgot about the loans. Martin Berry 31 Posted 01/01/2025 at 14:58:14 Both DCL and Beto will have to be shipped "if" we want to keep Broja and can actually afford the fee ?Chermiti is a real talent but will he be able to play many games required in a tough league at a young age.Its going to be fascinating to see who stays and goes with so many out of contractWe could be unrecognizable when kicking off at the new stadium. Clive Rogers 32 Posted 02/01/2025 at 12:07:33 Its being reported that Torino have offered £5.7M for Beto. Dennis Stevens 33 Posted 02/01/2025 at 12:18:26 Is that per year over the next 4 or 5 years, Clive? Clive Rogers 34 Posted 02/01/2025 at 12:24:24 Looks like we are going to lose quite a bit of money on Beto and OBrien. Stephen Davies 35 Posted 02/01/2025 at 12:51:48 There was a recent rumour concerning a DCL Sean Longstaff swap which would be a great help PSR. I'm currently working with a good friend of his. I asked him about this...he wouldn't reveal anything but a short while later asked ' are there any good golf courses in the area? 😉Make of it what you will. Rob Halligan 36 Posted 02/01/2025 at 14:08:20 Stephen, your friend plays golf and is moving to Liverpool? Dave Abrahams 37 Posted 02/01/2025 at 14:36:48 Rob (36), It sounds like Sean Longstaff could be playing golf in Liverpool! Rob Halligan 38 Posted 02/01/2025 at 14:41:06 No shit, Dave! 😂😂😂 John Chambers 39 Posted 02/01/2025 at 15:06:57 Martin by the end of this season Chermitri will be 21 so should be plenty old enough John Chambers 40 Posted 02/01/2025 at 15:14:08 Clive I dont agree we will lose on OBrien. We should loan him out for the second half of the season and hope he develops along the lines of Banthwaite. Keane will be OK for cover this season, arguably he was been more consistent than Branthwaite before he came back. OBrien can then come back next season after Keane has gone and challenge to get in ahead of Tarkowski if he develops on loan Jay Harris 41 Posted 02/01/2025 at 15:17:00 Its simple, sign Mangala on a permanent deal, get Ferguson on loan from Brighton, get Chermitti fit again and get a fast pacy winger in who can score goals in place of Harrison.Get Ironman fit again to take Doucoures place and we will have a solid NF at least. Christy Ring 42 Posted 02/01/2025 at 15:34:37 Imagine Calvert-Lewin playing at a club with wingers who can cross a ball, or having someone upfront beside him, instead of being completely isolated. I'd definitely prefer to let Beto go in January, we badly need pace on the wings, and our fullbacks supporting them going forward instead of the other way round. Brian Harrison 43 Posted 02/01/2025 at 15:43:40 Just read Sean Dyche comments at todays press conference, he was asked about his approach does that need to change in order for the attacking struggles to come to an end. He said " he is flexible and the best way to improve is with stronger finances". Giulia Bould asks about having only won 8 games in 2024 and says 4 of those wins came in April,so what were the club doing then that they aren't doing now. Dyche replied " during that spell we got the right side of the margins ( I have no idea what that means) we were strong defensively and nicked our chances". Asked about transfers and the rumour Atalanta had made a bid, he said "nobody had spoken to the club about DCL. When asked by another journalist about poor goals return he said " that was happening before I got here". Surely he was brought in to change that not maintain the status quo. Stephen Davies 44 Posted 02/01/2025 at 15:44:13 Well Dave,my work colleague is Longstaffs golf buddy. Nigel Scowen 45 Posted 02/01/2025 at 15:44:47 Jay@41Thats pretty much it in a nutshell Jay. Christy Ring 46 Posted 02/01/2025 at 16:11:53 We definitely need to bring in a wide player with pace, and he has to drop Harrison and Doucoure, two of his favourites. Listening to his press conference, I can't see Patterson starting, even though he offered a lot more pace in his short time on the grass. Ian Jones 47 Posted 02/01/2025 at 16:13:59 To be a striker with a consistent goal scoring record, it helps if you get a chance to play consistently and get up to speed, especially if you are new to the league...we'll never know how good Beto could be if he doesn't get the chance to play consistently without the pressure. It seems he had some success in Italy and some Italian teams are rumoured to want him...I heard an interview with Neil Warnock when he said he told some forward that he would be playing in the next run of games regardless of how did in some matches...which led to less pressure to perform, the striker relaxed and he scored a few goals.I don't know how many games Lookman played consistently at the various clubs he was with but my guess is that he gets regular games at Atalanta and is having a good season or 2 As most on here have suggested, playing the way we do is of no great benefit to any of the strikers we have and it's really not a mystery if DCL wants to leave to better himself elsewhere. I think he would actually like to achieve something with us but feels an opportunity lies elsewhere. I also believe he hasn't lost interest in playing for us, but lost interest in the way we play.As I have said on more than one occasion, former strikers like Shearer have said what's good forward he is...and I imagine those players know the game and abilities of the players far better us Ed Prytherch 48 Posted 02/01/2025 at 16:28:20 I imagine that TFG are unimpressed with those words from Dyche. They will want a manager who takes ownership and responsibility for results. Don't let the doors hit your arse on the way out Sean. Mark Taylor 49 Posted 02/01/2025 at 17:03:19 It will be interesting to see what offers DCL gets. As a free, he will for sure get something but I think he (or his agent) believes a top 4 or 6 team would be in for him. I think he's kidding himself. He's OK but nothing special. Would he, for example, be anything other than a third striker at Villa?Beto is another we have been stung on. Like Tosun. We seem to have a habit of buying players and subtracting, not adding value. It is going to be a challenge in the summer to find at least one new striker. Maybe Broja can do well and like the idea of staying. It will otherwise be very alarming to go into next season without someone up front who has any real EPL experience. Jay Harris 50 Posted 02/01/2025 at 17:23:45 Mark,The real frightening thing is going into next season with players who cant score goals irrespective of EPL experience which for example Maupay had and DCL has. Ask yourself how many goals we have scored from open play since SD got here and I am sure the number is terrifying. Clive Rogers 51 Posted 02/01/2025 at 17:42:54 John, 40, Ive got the impression he doesnt want a loan move. Hes been out on loan three times and is 24 in May. I read he was promised first team starts and is unhappy it hasnt happened. He wants a move to a club where he will play I believe. Dave Abrahams 52 Posted 02/01/2025 at 18:07:52 Stephen (44) Yes I realised that meant Longstaff was possibly coming to Everton but thought that Rob didnt understand that but obviously @38 he did. Rob Halligan 53 Posted 02/01/2025 at 18:16:27 Dave…..😂😂😂😂😂👍👍👍👍👍 Mike Gaynes 54 Posted 02/01/2025 at 18:18:00 Clive #51, I wonder if maybe he's just not getting it done in training. Iroegbunam is younger and was less well-known, but he impressed Dyche immediately and went straight into the starting lineup. O'Brien had the same opportunity with Jarrad out but for some reason didn't break through. Ian Bennett 55 Posted 02/01/2025 at 18:42:55 Another masterclass from Thelwell. Bought for £26m, and you're reading that Italian clubs are offering below £10m. £16m loss in two years, adding to the £8m lost on Maupay. And he's meant to be fixing the losses on Mina, Allan, Iwobi, Godfrey, Gbamin, Sigurdsson etc.Sorry Kev, but you can take a hike with Dyche. Ed Prytherch 56 Posted 02/01/2025 at 18:44:18 Mike, I think that it is because Keane played for Dyche at Burnley. Steve Shave 57 Posted 02/01/2025 at 19:10:20 Ian its just a rumour at the moment, let's wait and see how it unfolds. I am extremely doubtful we'd accept an offer lower than £10m for Beto, that would be crazy. I am personally hoping we ship Beto for say £12M and DCL for similar money and use it towards Ferguson, PSR permitting. Charles Ward 58 Posted 02/01/2025 at 19:12:20 Bearing in mind the deal we negotiated to buy Beto have we actually paid any money out?I assume that its spread over a few years so we could be paying off another debt. Robert Tressell 59 Posted 02/01/2025 at 19:15:56 As with all other windows in recent years, our business (or not) in January will be entirely dictated by a severe lack of money and PSR rules. There's a reasonable chance that one of Beto or DCL leaves. That might generate £10m to £15m or so (or a loan fee in the case of Beto). That's not enough to buy a striker of better quality as an immediate replacement. And indeed there are very, very few strikers of any quality on the market in January. But it might allow us to strengthen some other position, with the hope that Broja and Chermiti can step up (which is a fairly big ask of Broja with 1 goal in 21 last season and also Chermiti who would ideally be developing out on loan after a serious injury). For what it's worth, the strongest links for this window so far seem to be: - Yuri Alberto (striker / Brazil) - Igor Jesus (striker / Brazil) - Mikautadze (striker / Georgia) - Igamame (striker / Morocco) - Pepi (striker / USA) - Ferguson (striker / RoI) - Ziyech (playmaker / RW / Morocco) - Cherki (playmaker / RW / France) - Akgun (RW / Turkey) - Fellows (RW / England) - Diarra (CM / AM / Senegal) - Cacqueret (CM / France) - Lamptey (RB / Ghana) - Lindelhof (CB / Sweden)The list grows daily too. There's some interesting links in here - and some players that could become very good in time. But the real talent is not generally available until summer. With our 4 loan spots used up it wouldn't be a huge surprise if there is very little business done - and Dyche still in charge - once the window closes. I know that will disappoint many, but it seems very unlikely that the Friedkin takeover will represent an abrupt change in our fortunes (and therefore our performances on the pitch). Paul Ferry 60 Posted 02/01/2025 at 19:20:21 Jay Harris 41: 'Its simple, sign Mangala on a permanent deal, get Ferguson on loan from Brighton, get Chermitti fit again and get a fast pacy winger in who can score goals in place of Harrison'.It's not Jay. We are maxed out on loans. Robert Tressell 61 Posted 02/01/2025 at 19:23:31 Paul # 60 - presumably if we sign Mangala on a permanent deal, that frees up the loan space for Jay's suggested Ferguson loan signing?I still stand by my comments above that this could be a really frustrating window but something like that might be doable, who knows? Especially since Lyon seem to be in even bigger financial difficulties than we are! Paul Ferry 62 Posted 02/01/2025 at 19:29:59 Good point Robert! But I don't see why we would sign Mangala this month when we could do so in the summer. He is already on board for the rest of the season and what money we might have could be better spent on more urgent priorities. Dave Lynch 63 Posted 02/01/2025 at 19:38:53 Does anyone really think that Dyche will change tactics and formation no matter who we sign?Because I don't. Ian Bennett 64 Posted 02/01/2025 at 19:53:47 Steve, we paid £26m mate - and you would accept £12m rather than £10m. You kind of accepted the point. He's a shit director of football. Clive Rogers 65 Posted 02/01/2025 at 20:08:11 Mike, 54, very likely. In the two brief appearances he made he looked very raw to me. Mike Gaynes 66 Posted 02/01/2025 at 20:34:39 Ed #56, I think that's highly unlikely. Keane played about 100 games for Dyche 8-9 years ago, and Dyche sold him. That's a pretty slender sentimental connection. I consider it far more likely that Keane simply beat out O'Brien for the #3 spot. Eugene Stalker 67 Posted 02/01/2025 at 21:23:25 A work colleague of mine is a big Ireland fan and he somehow got tickets back in September in the players' family area for the England match. When the players arrived there after the game (where they appeared to be having a great party despite getting beat) he got Jake O'Brien to facetime me on his phone. I spent a couple of minutes telling him how he had to be patient, the supporters were all behind him & had faith in him etc etc only to see him become increasingly confused. He then passed the phone to my mate who said "Sorry Eugene but we can't hear a word you are saying" and that was the end of that call. Hopefully Jake understood the sentiment. Ray Roche 68 Posted 02/01/2025 at 21:28:50 Robert, Paul 60,61Arent we only allowed four loans, 2 from UK and 2 from abroad? Signing Mangala in a permanent deal would allow a European loan and sending Harrison back would free up a UK slot. I think thats how it works anyway. Mike Gaynes 69 Posted 03/01/2025 at 01:18:17 Ray, you're assuming Mangala wants a permanent deal, and that Lyon wants to sell him. I don't think either can be assumed. Lyon bought him for a reason, and I doubt it was to sell him on after one appearance. And if Mangala has ambitions like playing European football, he's got a much better chance at Lyon. Ray Roche 70 Posted 03/01/2025 at 08:39:23 Of course Mike, I was merely pointing out a scenario whereby we could bring a couple of loan players in. The big pull for Mangala, and just about all players these days, is the wages. People like Rashford have already made millions so can be selective, I imagine that players further down the pecking order will see the money first, in my opinion.Players or agents will bleat on about playing Champions League football but if theyre getting battered by Real Madrid and finishing bottom of their CL League group maybe the lure of CL football weighed against a lucrative salary….,well, I know what Id choose. Jimmy Carr 71 Posted 03/01/2025 at 09:04:28 I've reached a point where I'm barely excited regarding any players we might bring in while we continue to play our current brand of football. A pacy right winger would be great, but would Dyche even play them? Or would he indeed select said 'pacy right winger' only to tell them to support our 40 year old right back and defend with the back eight at all costs? We could play Patterson at wide right this weekend if inclined. He'd get more crosses in than Harrison. In Ndaye, Lindstrom, McNeill, Patterson and Tim (when fit) we have players across those three forward spots who could be used to far greater effect than we see at the moment, but it isn't happening and it's not about to, unless our manager has an unexpected tactical lightbulb moment. If I sound cynical about Everton at the moment, that's because I am. It's going to be another long slog until the end of the season. Conor McCourt 72 Posted 03/01/2025 at 12:45:32 Mike@29 I can't agree with any of that about AdemolaIn his stints across 3 clubs excluding Everton (Leipzig, Fulham and Leicester)all coming under the age of 24 he scored 15 goals in just 82 league appearances (just over 5000 minutes)His replacement Alex Iwobi a much more experienced player when he joined Everton contributed a paltry 6 goals in 123 league appearances for the club in nearly double the time (just less than 8500 minutes). At the time I flippantly commented that we have signed half the player for double the price, With Hindsight I was being very kind to Iwobi.Ademola had ONE disappointing season since leaving Everton at Leipzig largely through no fault of his own. The Leipzig forward options were arguably their best in their history with Olmo, Sabitzer, Nkunku, Werner (35 goals), Schick, Poulson and Forsburg all ahead of him in the attacking areas. You couldn't wait for Lookman, would you have waited for Cunha now at Wolves who could only manage similar minutes at a similar age in that squad? His previous stint saw 9 goal involements in only 11 games when given a proper opportunity. At Fulham Lookman was once again a revelation. In his 31 starts he managed a magnificent 8 goal involements in a relegation threatened side. In the remaining 7 games the hapless cottagers only picked up a measly 1 point. After another another man of the match performance in the victory over Sheffield United Sky Sports reported "Ademola Lookman was Fulham's hero once again as he scored what proved to be the crucial goal in his sides bid for survival. He has now been directly involved in more PL goals than any other (Fulham) player this season". Just to put that in context Mike we currently have a much more experienced attacking unit who will no doubt avoid relegation yet in 18 games we have used 10 players in the 4 attacking positions who have 13 goal involements between them. In 31 starts he had 8 by himself in a much weaker squad. At Leicester once again Lookman shone in another star studded team. Unlike at Fulham he wasn't the star so had to fight for his place in the reigning FA Cup holders side. Despite having to compete with Tielemans, Dewsbury Hall, Madison, Harvey Barnes, Vardy, Albrighton, Perez and Ineacho for a starting berth. Ademola scored 6 goals in his 26 league appearances with a better goal to minutes ratio there than all James Rodriguez, Anthony Gordon or Ilyman N'Diaye managed during their time at Goodison. Moreover The Nigerian international further contributed with 7 goal involements in the various cup competitions.Brendan Rodgers was gutted to miss out on his permanent transfer for only £14 million because they were unable to sign players that summer due to FFP. He therefore insisted to one of his trusted lieutenants at Celtic and Leicester who had just left him to take over as general manager at Atlanta that this would be an absolute bargain signing. There is no doubt Ademola became unhappy and unsatisfied at Everton and that is why he made the I'll fated move back to Leipzig because he was appreciated and flourished there previously. This decision cost him a year in his football development and was only made because of the mismagerment of Silva who has form for ostracizing young players. First with Calvert Lewin then with Lookman, followed in consecutive seasons by Wilson,Broja, and now Carvalho. It is my belief had either a Moyes or Martinez, managers skilled at culturing young players, been in situ instead of Silva then Ademola could have been a great player for us. Dave Lynch 73 Posted 03/01/2025 at 13:09:34 Jimmy Carr is spot on.If you were a professional footballer with any attacking flair or intent, would you sign for us... because I wouldn't. Any footballer with ambition to better their career would not look at us through a fucking telescope Steve Brown 74 Posted 03/01/2025 at 13:13:52 Brilliant post Conor. Denis Richardson 75 Posted 03/01/2025 at 15:08:18 Jimmy 71, am at that stage too. It feels like its just a matter of time before Dyche leaves, Essentially anytime in the next 5 months. So, any player signings are not going to be that exciting whilst hes here as the football isnt going to change. If TFG keep him to the end of the season then players coming in now will predominantly be grafters to defend the point we start games with. Id be happy sending Harrison back to Leeds and using the loan spot to get Chillwell in. Whod be a lot better than Myko going forward. However, Dyche doesnt seem to like our FBs getting too far forward so even thats a non starter. Beto to Italy with his wages covered and £3m extra in is better than him warming the bench as a backup for the next 5 months. Beggars cant be choosers. Robert Tressell 76 Posted 03/01/2025 at 18:43:46 Would players of talent join a Dyche side? Well Ndiaye did... Anyway, it might be quite neat to tinker around with loan arrangements (and I expect the club is looking at that) but it depends on players, selling clubs and agents.I could see cash-strapped Lyon accepting some cash now for Mangala - but as has been pointed out, that just frees up a foreign loan spot. It wouldn't allow us to sign Ferguson on loan from Brighton.I could also see Leeds accepting cash now for Harrison - freeing up a Premier League loan spot in the process. However, do we actually want Harrison? I can't see them just allowing us to send him back unless we continue to pay his wages (which would be a weird thing to do).It seems like early days to even consider signing either of Broja or Lindstrom - since the former has hardly played since serious injury, and the latter hasn't exactly sparkled (yet). Not much business done yet by any Premier League clubs but still lots of time. A few weeks ago I think Mike Gaynes predicted we would sign 4 to 5 players in this window so hopefully he is correct. Paul Ferry 77 Posted 03/01/2025 at 19:22:37 Jimmy (71): you summed up the current state of my Everton mind to a tee.Conor (72), a very effective corrective and well put together (I learnt a lot). But dont expect Mike (G) to budge an inch in the face of strong counter-evidence. Also, remember to ask him which part of his post you are allowed to respond to (see what became that DCL thread)! Brian Williams 78 Posted 03/01/2025 at 19:57:08 Do we actually want Harrison? No, no, no, no, no.And if we sign five players in this window I will eat my own arse! Christine Foster 79 Posted 05/01/2025 at 16:40:36 Pictures of Beto at Manchester Airport can only really mean his probably exit. With Broja and Chermiti injured that leaves DCL as our only option, and he is badly out of form, dispirited and will not commit. I only hope to hear confirmation of replacement players inbound. Farcical. Pat Kelly 80 Posted 05/01/2025 at 17:32:40 Beto missed his flight. Michael Lynch 81 Posted 06/01/2025 at 10:47:58 Beto to Italy, Chermiti injured, Broja injured, DCL avoiding injury to keep himself safe for a free transfer - that leaves no strikers really doesn't it?I would normally be tearing what's left of my hair out, but let's be honest - none of our strikers ever score anyway, so what difference does it make? We could play my nan up front and she couldn't fail to match the combined goal total of Beto, Chermiti, Broja and DCL over the past few months. So sell the lot of them. Ian Wilkins 82 Posted 07/01/2025 at 12:43:29 Strong rumours that Everton are negotiating with Villa for outright purchase of Jaden Philogene. Unai Emery said ‘ he has potential but sadly has failed to show it with us for 6 months ‘.So why should we buy him? Shades of Danjuma who couldnt do it at Spurs, so we waste a loan position on him. Same Lindstrom. Likely same Broja. Philogene is a Championship player who couldnt make step up. Same Harrison. It is no wonder we cant break the downward spiral if we continue to transfer deal at this level, in this way. Scout better Everton. Rise above everybodys failed cast offs.
