Season › 2024-25 › News The Rumour Mill Another episode of "Where's Jarrad going?" Michael Kenrick | 26/02/2025 10comments | Jump to last Seems it's time for another episode of "Where's Jarrad going?" as a slew of clickbait sites vie with each other to predict the future of Everton's bright young centre-back when the transfer window opens in the summer. CaughtOffside favour the Real Madrid connection provided by Carlo Ancelotti and his well-known admiration for the Cumbrian giant, boldly stating that "Jarrad Branthwaite could move to Real Madrid". Real Madrid are keen to sign a new centre-back this summer amid an injury crisis in defence and Jarrad Branthwaite has been discussed, TEAMtalk claims, but there has been no concrete approach to the player or Everton about a transfer Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti gave Branthwaite his Premier League debut when he was Everton’s manager. Article continues below video content Meanwhile, The Hard Tackle regurgitates the now stale claim that both Manchester United and Liverpool are interested in signing the Everton star. The club are believed to value Branthwaite at over £70M. The defender is under contract until 2027, but the club are thought to be considering opening talks aimed at extending an improved deal for Jarrad to consider, so they remain in a strong negotiating position to rebuff other clubs and retain the excellent defender as they look to rebuild a better side in the summer. Disclaimer () Robert Williams 1 Posted 26/02/2025 at 13:52:00 There is no doubt about Jarrad's talent and promise. The figure that I seem to remember being bandied about was £80m+. United baulked at that, offering a derisory amount for his services. There is no doubt that City and the RS will need some rebuilding this summer, but would they come anywhere near our valuation? Didn't Vermin V Dyke cost £75m or so we were led to believe?Anyway, we have JB under contract until 2027, BUT talent and promise can soon disappear as we well know. God forbid that anything happens to him but we have seen careers ended in a blink of an eyelid.Jarrad's future lies in his own hands, he has the world at his feet and Everton would dearly like to hang on to him. However £80m buys a lot of talent and players. Sadly, I believe that Everton will part company with Jarrad over the summer. We are in a re-building phase and we are well known for selling our top talents. I cannot see him going to either City or the Shite. If I was him I would opt to get to Real Madrid and prove that he is a true Galactico. Mike Gaynes 2 Posted 26/02/2025 at 15:12:21 Robert #1, yes we have been "well known for selling our top talents" but that was under previous management. Our new owners may well have significantly different business priorities. There was no major selloff at Roma when the Friedkins took over, and that club was in significant financial trouble at the time. Kevin Molloy 3 Posted 26/02/2025 at 15:26:46 Moyes will sell if the price is right, 'come with a big bag of money'. And we know from Lescott that there comes a point where it's counterproductive to keep players against their will. Liverpool's presence may in fact work to our advantage, as undoubtedly Madrid and United would try and get him on the cheap, whereas Liverpool have to replace Virgil, and may be tempted to come in high to just get it over the line. Phil Roberts 4 Posted 26/02/2025 at 15:58:05 I hope someone has a quiet word with Jarrad that going over the park is not going to go down well. And I hope TFG are aware of that as well.Reserves (Sheedy, Harper) and fading stars (Beardsley) or via another club (McMahon, Johnson D) is OK but remember the reaction when Barmby moved to his "childhood club"? Mark Murphy 5 Posted 26/02/2025 at 16:10:51 Tony Abrahams seems to have the inside track on Jarrads career. Please have a word Tone! I wish him well if he HAS to move on but for Gods sake NOT to the shite!UTFT Nigel Scowen 6 Posted 26/02/2025 at 16:25:45 I think offering an improvement on his contract now is a must, so thats good to hear if that is the case. At least that way if we do decide to cash in at any point then we will be getting proper value for our player. As part of any culture shift we need to be renegotiating contracts for players we want to keep at the latest when there is 2 years left on their current deal. Raymond Fox 7 Posted 26/02/2025 at 16:34:34 There's only 5 other clubs in our division who have conceeded the same or less than us this season so Jarrad must still be doing the business.Maybe its just me but he has not shone so brightly as last year.If I had to bet on him being an Everton player or not 1 year from now I'd say not. It's very hard to know though, there's that many factors involved.I don't think him going to Real would be a wise choice. Robert Tressell 9 Posted 26/02/2025 at 17:04:15 Max Kilman cost £45m last summer which sets a bit of a marker. Only 4 CBs have ever been sold for over €80m. They are:Maguire to Man Utd €87mDeLigt to Juve €85mVan Dijk to the RS €84mFofana to Chelsea €80mBut it's also worth noting that no-one has spent €80m on any player this season, whatever position. What does all this mean? Well ultimately the price is set by the need (or not) to sell - and competition from around the market. We shouldn't need to sell any more for PSR or solvency reasons, but we may "need" to sell to fund a rebuild. The Roma comparison makes sense Mike but their circumstances were very very different to ours.If he is to be sold and the fee is to be £80m or more (and you'd hope it would be) there's only about 3 to 5 clubs in Europe who could afford that. Iain Johnston 10 Posted 26/02/2025 at 18:53:50 Sadly, in terms of wages we can't afford to keep him. That's the reality of it. He knows his worth and we'll need to spread the wealth across all of the defensive positions.Remember we're losing Keane, (Holgate), Seamus & Young and have zero left full back cover.Yes we can look at free transfers, there'll be a few decent picking around for right full back for example but that tends to go hand in hand with larger personal terms. Brian Williams 11 Posted 26/02/2025 at 19:24:26 Jarrad will be running out for us onto that lush green carpet at BMD next season!
