Everton have made an official bid for Bayern Munich’s Adam Aznou, David Moyes confirmed. He spoke to the press after his team’s 3-0 loss to Bournemouth in the first match of the Premier League Summer Series in the United States.
The Blues have made progress behind the scenes on the young left-back and Moyes said, “We have made an offer, whether it’s accepted, or whether it’s all done. He’s a young player, he’s a young left-back.”
Born in Barcelona to Moroccan parents, Aznou joined the famed La Masia academy at the age of 13. Three years later, he joined Bayern Munich’s youth academy and made four appearances for the Bavarian club before spending the second half of last season on loan at Real Valladolid in Spain.
Moyes confirmed that the club is betting on Aznou’s talent and potential and asked for caution against having immediate expectations from the teenager.
“So, he’s someone who we see as having a good future and potential.”
Aznou is expected to play second fiddle to Vitaliy Mykolenko, who is the only natural left-back in the squad at the moment.
The Athletic's Paddy Boyland reported that he is set to undergo his medical early this week ahead of an initial €9M deal. If all goes to plan, Aznou is expected to join Everton on their US tour.
Asked if Everton were mostly focusing on young targets, Moyes replied: “No, not really. If I’m honest, we’ve actually tried to target the more senior players if we can, players who are maybe over the age of 25 with Premier League experience.
“It’s not taken us away from the fact that we want to try and buy some young players as well. When I think you’ve got as many as us to probably do, I’m hoping by the time we get to the end of the transfer window, we might have a balance of youth and experience.”
Of the three signings for Everton so far in the transfer window, goalkeeper Mark Travers is the only one above the age of 25. Thierno Barry and Charly Alcaraz are both 22, while the sought-after Adam Aznou is 19.

With the amount we require, hopefully there are lots of negotiations for players going on in the background, if we are just doing one player at a time, this is going to take forever.
4 Posted 28/07/2025 at 14:35:20
Better to wait for the official announcement for the club before celebrating, although I reckon most signs are pointing in the direction of the deal being over the line.
Let's wait and see.

Quite frankly I am tired of these speculative posts that are supposed to give hope, I am giving up on them until 9 August, giving myself a break from anything I would normally look for on Everton until then. I want to reset the date and hopefully read about actual signings then?
Talking of "signings" white brackets have appeared on the west side of the HDS, could we have our name overlooking the Mersey? Now that would be good news.

What a stunner she was.

Moyes said that at West Ham, with them being in Europe, it was a lot easier signing players. I think the club are finding out that with our recent past history of a few seasons fighting relegation, then we aren't a very attractive proposition, and the better quality of player we are trying to attract makes that job very difficult.
9 Posted 28/07/2025 at 15:18:24
If we do well against the Hammers, Man Utd and then Roma, and still not got first team recruitment, will that be papering over the cracks?
We can't compete with the squad as it is, we already have injuries, and the season has not even started.
We looked good first half against Bournemouth, but woeful defending cost us. I won't hang O'Brien out to dry as even the best have mistakes in them. But Patterson as a defender is just not good enough.
So right-back, right-winger, sell or keep Chermiti in the squad, a couple of loans with experience… and we should be okay.

Whilst there were some positives from the first half v Bournemouth, we didn't really create a great deal.

Martin @5 and Brian @7,
Talking to Anne earlier and she said she didn't remember either of you guys!
14 Posted 28/07/2025 at 15:41:48
It's not the strikers that we need, it's creative players that we're short of. Watching the game Saturday, Beto and Barry were chasing shadows. Garner ain't good enough, McNeil got as much pace as Stephen Hawkin, and Alcaraz ain't exactly going to go by a couple of players.
No pace, no creativity, and certainly not enough options.
15 Posted 28/07/2025 at 15:45:18
16 Posted 28/07/2025 at 15:46:23
When I say there's not enough goals, I don't solely blame the strikers. Across the board we have very little creativity in the players or the set-up.
Both are dependent on the other – until we get the players, we are stuck.
17 Posted 28/07/2025 at 15:48:06
Bit strange for the club to speak about him before it's done. Looks terrible if he doesn't end up here, and just invites others to have a go at getting him too.
Unless it's all agreed bar the medical. Still bit premature.

I move on.

Calvert-Lewin is wanted by Newcastle. What a surprise if he goes to them for free, as opposed to round £30M last season. Well done, Dom, if he pulls it off, fleecing the team that made you a wealthy man.
Gratitude is apparantly not a word that you are familiar with. Make sure you have some Vaseline for the splinters you will get sitting on your arse. Once a blue? Ungrateful Ponce.

24 Posted 28/07/2025 at 16:46:05
That's just blind loyalty to a man who has cheated his employers out of millions, not to mention the fans, loyalty that Calvert-Lewin obviously dosn't have. Now it looks like he's found another club stupid enough to pay him millions, for very little return, just as he gave to us.
Blind loyalty is characterized by an inability or unwillingness to question the actions, decisions, or character of the person or group to whom one is loyal. In your case, Paul, Calvert-Lewin.
25 Posted 28/07/2025 at 16:50:56
Also I need to point out that the guy I've been pushing for, Tim Weah, is still available -- his long-assumed move to Marseilles seems to have fallen through -- and I'd still love to see us go in for him.
26 Posted 28/07/2025 at 16:52:42
The fact that the club missed out on a transfer fee is due to the fact that the club didn't offer him a contract extension that was acceptable to him. He saw out the terms of his contract, that was freely entered into by both parties, so de facto he has not "cheated" his employer at all.
I would also add that, in recent years, he has copped the most awful abuse, not least on this site, as well as saving the club from pretty much certain relegation (with all the costs associated with that – we may not even exist at this stage had we been relegated) with his header against Palace. I, for one, am extremely grateful for that!
27 Posted 28/07/2025 at 16:52:46
Take your time.
28 Posted 28/07/2025 at 16:53:35
But I agree, I'd take Weah and Douglas Luiz.
29 Posted 28/07/2025 at 17:05:10
Do you think he's worth £130k a week? Apparently you do.
30 Posted 28/07/2025 at 17:09:34
And if he's found another club, what do we care? He's worth what an employer thinks he's worth and is willing to pay him. That employer isn't us anymore.
31 Posted 28/07/2025 at 17:10:19
Of course he was hampered by injuries and the style of play promoted by our previous manager. If he is now able to have a good career with another club, good luck to him, and I wish him well.
32 Posted 28/07/2025 at 17:12:15
Spot on, Dominic Calvert-Lewin owes us nothing. He gave us great service — something, as a centre-forward, he was starved of.
33 Posted 28/07/2025 at 17:13:21
So tell us.
34 Posted 28/07/2025 at 17:13:28
They might possibly consider it if we were to pay them silly money each week along with a 5-year contract — but that's a slippery slope.
We will no doubt sign 6+ more players but will they be good enough? It sounds familiar, doesn't it?
35 Posted 28/07/2025 at 17:14:35
But despite the constructive comment from Steve @27, I'm still none the wiser as to why Aznou wouldn't feature in the first team at all — as Steve said @6.
36 Posted 28/07/2025 at 17:18:07
League Cup, FA Cup, times if we're chasing a game he can come on, Mykolenko injuries etc .
37 Posted 28/07/2025 at 17:20:57
"So what should Calvert-Lewin be doing to show his "gratitude" for Everton? Turn down other offers? Retire?"
Do the honest thing for the club that made him, and accept a very good contract from Everton or accept a contract from Newcastle. He turned them down to go for free.
And don't say "Why should he?" — because we are back to square one. My opinion, obviously not yours, is loyalty, regardless of any issues, should bring about loyalty, both ways.
Calvert-Lewin turned his back on us, stuck up his middle finger, and let his contract run out — to benefit one person: himself.
38 Posted 28/07/2025 at 17:44:00
Yet you want him back? You think he ought to sign Everton's "very good offer" (now off the table because we replaced him already)? Why???
I would have thought that, holding that opinion of him, you would think he has demonstrated the appropriate gratitude by getting out of the club.
39 Posted 28/07/2025 at 18:05:21
Any No 9 would have struggled in our team over the last 4 years plus with the lack of creativity given to our strikers.
40 Posted 28/07/2025 at 18:09:06
Brian, I had that Anne Margaret thing too, small world. Beautiful and really talented, what was not to like.
41 Posted 28/07/2025 at 19:00:14
Amazing theatre program that also produced Charlton Heston, Ralph Bellamy, Rock Hudson, Virginia Madsen, Bruce Dern, US TV stars William Christopher and Michael Shannon.
42 Posted 28/07/2025 at 19:12:35
Jack, obviously it isn't done, but it feels like this one is in the home straight. I can't see Moyes talking publicly otherwise, but let's see it done.
And please don't use the Moyesiah word. It makes me cringe!!! Maybe that's just me.
I never bestowed anything resembling that on Howard Kendall.
43 Posted 28/07/2025 at 20:41:57
If Aznou is half-decent, he could certainly take over from Mykolenko. Not surprised
to hear Moyes saying he wants over-25s with Premier League experience. It's in his DNA.
44 Posted 28/07/2025 at 21:01:33
Re Ann-Margret: “Beautiful and really talented, what was not to like?”
She had red hair.

46 Posted 29/07/2025 at 00:13:05
But then gets injured again. Now I know some clubs might get desperate, including us, but are you really going to hand out a long multi-year six-figure contract to a guy whose one very good season is some time ago and is, to put it kindly, a bit injury prone?
They've had a season of that with Callum Wilson so I think they are looking for a more reliable bench warmer.
47 Posted 29/07/2025 at 00:17:41
49 Posted 29/07/2025 at 07:06:57
Forget it, guys — he's gone, done and dusted now.
He had a good 18-month spell during the Carlo era and scored the beautiful header against that lot in our first Goodison win for 14 years in a derby.
But most of us sadly will remember him for his kryptonite which was missing easy chances when one v one, something which, right up to the very last day at Newcastle, he kept up his consistent record of.
50 Posted 29/07/2025 at 07:08:19
And all my school could offer was Derek Nimmo and John Lennon.

52 Posted 29/07/2025 at 08:34:30
What I will say is this, and it's extremely important obviously: I've just watched the presser with Mr David Moyes. Either the colour settings on my laptop have gone weird or he's gone and dyed his hair blonde.
He appears to be going for the Anthony Gordon look.
53 Posted 29/07/2025 at 08:39:17
There are loads of good seasoned players who would play for us and younger types. It's paying them the going rate without stupid clauses.
54 Posted 29/07/2025 at 09:09:46
I think we've done the Thelwell debate. I think once he and the club knew he wasn't going to be a permanent fixture in the new structure, it would have been pointless keeping him on. His head would have been elsewhere.
55 Posted 29/07/2025 at 12:11:51
As it turned out, with Burnley losing their last game, we would've stayed up anyway.
56 Posted 29/07/2025 at 13:30:49
Regarding Thelwell, until we make some signings, his name will continue to crop up. This was one of my fears of Moyes taking charge, he likes to try and control too many aspects within the club.
That mode of operation is seriously outdated. He should stick to coaching the team and let others identify and recruit players (with some input from him obviously), whether that be a DoF or a transfer committee. The current situation seems to be all of his and TFG's doing.
57 Posted 29/07/2025 at 13:33:43
"He's got blonde hair" etc!!
58 Posted 29/07/2025 at 13:34:02
Any manager will trust any player of any age if they are good enough.
"Good enough" doesn't mean the likes of Roman Dixon.
