A fellow Blue posted this before and I just read it.
My admiration of Moyes grew after we stayed up but just in relief, just like us all.
A great manager or even good one. My mental jury is out.

Also - when did Moyes introduce our new £40 million striker again?
3 Posted 20/08/2025 at 15:23:07
No quality full backs, proven goal scorers nor wingers signed and yet we let a significant number of players go at the end of June.
If Barry, Aznou and Travers are the result of the new elite recruitment committee, they all need sacking.
Thelwell did a better job in his sleep with a negative budget.

We Won Away at Brighton, Palace, Forest, Newcastle, Wolves and Southampton.
Won at home playing Spurs and Leicester.
Drew with Man U (H) Reds (H) Brentford (A) Wolves (A) Arsenal (H) West Ham (H).
He's the same manager now – it's the players that have changed.

Moyes had a very bad day on Monday, but he's had lots of good ones since he came back.
7 Posted 20/08/2025 at 17:33:25
We didn't sell them, we have not been able to bring in any revenue, profit or cash to reinvest it.
We made 1 loan permanent and I would suggest his price of £15M being affordable the main reason for this as I already think he was on a relatively low wage. A good, young Premier League experienced player.
We appear to have about £40M left to spend due to accounting rules and if we haven't already identified our priority targets, we keep it for January or next season.
Bring in another 3 loan players and hopefully we can make a couple of them permanent in the summer. There's no way we will be paying £50M for Grealish when he's 30 and still demands mega wages.

That was Monday night at Elland Road.

Pissed myself at that, absolute belter.
Another day nearly over and still no signings, and I'm not convinced we will get any in either, that's how low I'm feeling.
I will say this, though: we don't recruit another 4 or 5 and we are in dire straits.
12 Posted 20/08/2025 at 19:28:54
The lack of signings is not down to our manager, just because you're not a fan of Moyes, he deserves backing after the superb job he did last season.
13 Posted 20/08/2025 at 20:59:02
The big problem on Monday was players playing out of position and asked to perform. Why oh why could he have not tried a different set-up where players played in their natural positions?
Garner played LB, OBrien RB, and Charlie RW in a 4-2-3-1 system. Surely the players he had at his disposal lent itself more to a 3-4-3 formation and having more in midfield would have meant we were not overrun in this area of the pitch.
It is clear we are in dire need of reinforcements so c'mon Friedkins, open your wallets and get some players signed; otherwise, we are going to be propping up the table again.
14 Posted 21/08/2025 at 17:26:14
If we don't bring in some new signings very quickly, they may well be right.
On the evidence seen so far, I am none too hopeful. Moyes may have credit in the bank after last season's turnaround. It won't last long if there are many more performances like the one at Elland Road
15 Posted 21/08/2025 at 17:49:31
With that figure already spent do we really expect to be able to spend much more?
Reports seem to suggest at the very most we had a kitty of £100M this summer so you could argue we're now looking only at loans or free agents.
16 Posted 21/08/2025 at 18:18:13
It's very early days and, though the transfer business has been a touch unbalanced in my opinion, there is time left and all reports suggest we will have some more money to spend and expect 3-5 more signings. It's frustrating that it's taking so long but I would always want most signings to be made with a view to the medium and long term.
If we sign good quality at RW and RB with maybe a better option at 6 too (Juanlu Sanchez, Dilane Bakwa and Dion Lopy?!) then we should be well set for a finish nearer Top 10 than relegation zone.
17 Posted 21/08/2025 at 18:27:41
Pick a balanced side, with players in their favoured position.
19 Posted 21/08/2025 at 19:47:02
I think the main reason Moyes nearly got a draw from Monday's game was because Leeds were not very good with all the possession Moyes's organisation presented to them.
If he plays the same way against better teams, the result will be much bigger than 1-0.
20 Posted 21/08/2025 at 20:51:12
Moyes lacks imagination. He doesn't change things when they are not working, in other words, he's reactive not proactive. His substitutions are late and unimaginative and the teams fitness levels look suspect.
I know he has his loyal fans on here who will justify and excuse his mistakes but it comes a time to recognise his limitations.
We all want him to turn this abject start into success as his success is our success but he can't be allowed to rest on his laurels. This is a make or break season for us and he, nor anyone else, can fail.

Are you basing those numbers on what money we had before we sold the women's team for £60M. Because if you are we have another £60M to spend.

25 Posted 22/08/2025 at 10:14:28
Those last few years of his first stint with us I was just praying that he would get the chop along with Kenwright.
26 Posted 22/08/2025 at 10:20:23
Yeah we all have our gripes about playing style, and dour/dithering Davey & all that but he's been better than our other managers in truth.
I also remember a lot of Evertonians moaning every week about how awful Lukaku, Mirallas etc all were and look at the shite we've had in attack since.
Be careful what you wish for.
27 Posted 22/08/2025 at 10:28:25
Man City fans were whinging all last year, a significant portion of Arsenal fans want Arteta out and don't get me started on Man Utd fans and their entitlement.
Even if we win something, people will moan.

29 Posted 22/08/2025 at 10:37:38
We need a culture shift, which I hope will happen in time. Everton needs a complete turnaround in every way.
I was gutted to hear all the old songs at the new stadium - I hope over the next couple of years they phase all that out and truly modernise us.
Fans need to take an active part in changing the culture at Everton as we've been living in the past for 30 years. Attitude is everything, and ours is lousy as a fanbase in many ways (loyalty aside).
30 Posted 22/08/2025 at 10:38:17
Is it because of Moyes's limitations that players are steering clear of us.
Is he the problem?
31 Posted 22/08/2025 at 10:47:08
Grealish has arrived, Alcarez opted to stay and by all accounts Dibbling is happy to join but Everton won't pay Southampton's asking price.
32 Posted 22/08/2025 at 10:47:22
We have only lost one game with a patched up side that were second favs to win and that on a disputed decision.
Sure we didn't play well, but there will be plenty of teams that will lose at Leeds.
We are in a mess squad wise no doubt, but who can you blame for that? Moyes will be naffed off more than most and has said so many times.
The window is not yet over, if the situation is not considerably better at the end of it heads deserve to roll. Its a stupid system though when you can play two games before the window ends, some players and agents are going to wait till the end to see if they can get a better deal elsewhere.
33 Posted 22/08/2025 at 10:49:44
The club as a whole is likely not that attractive to most players - Everton are not known as a fashionable club, a lot of players want to play in Europe or live in London and there are countless teams seen as a more viable option than us because we've struggled against relegation for years.
Almost every professional footballer on the planet knows Everton as a lowly, poorly run club because they're all under 35 and we've been run like a tinpot shitshow for 35 years.
My son is 23 and supports Man Utd because they were the best team around when he was a kid. He (and his mates) see Everton as a joke of a club. We're just not an attractive proposition to his generation.
It's got very little to do with David Moyes unless you're an Evertonian in his 40/50/60's who uses TW.
34 Posted 23/08/2025 at 02:55:36
I expect the midfield to be more proactive rather than reactive. The midfield pivot will be Gueye and Alcaraz, with Dewsbury-Hall and Grealish being an attacking midfield pairing. This will result in more ball progression.
Iroegbunam will be dropped. Bob Paisley used to say that when you see a player off the pace and fouling due to late tackles, it is because of poor fitness or he is carrying an injury. I believe that was Tim's case against Leeds.
The defence will be the same due to injury, a thundering disgrace for Finch Farm at the start of the season. I expect TFG to be on their case.
Against Leeds, the defence played well enough, but badly needed ball progression in midfield to at least get the defensive line up the field from its natural tendency to be deep.
Ndiaye will be able to tuck in more due to the attacking midfield pairing and Beto will benefit from better forward passing and less hoofball which was a waste of time with Everton being so deep. Both forwards will be less isolated.
Poor old Dave is certainly going to earn his corn, but does have the ability for the above – and no better man imo.
Whoever said that progress at Everton was going to be straight forward and we would've all been in full agreement.
Those that attend Bramley-Moore Dock will be blessed.
35 Posted 31/08/2025 at 04:50:30
Not reactive, dour defensive line ups and lack of invention.
Not what I saw yesterday. Some great football and plenty of fast- moving attacking play with runners and plenty of invention.
A few defensive lapses from a normally reliable back line but three goals at Wolves is a huge improvement from what we normally achieve.
Lighten up guys and give credit where it is due.
Still time to get a few more in and then we move onwards and upwards. Well done dithering Davey. Long may it continue.

“Moyes needs to rethink defensive strategy”
Click here for a pointless advert for haemorrhoid treatment.
