Everton will host a struggling West Ham United outfit at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday night.

The Blues will be looking to turn things around after consecutive setbacks over the past week. They suffered a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool in the Anfield derby before getting knocked out of the Carabao Cup with a 2-0 loss to Wolves at Molineux.

David Moyes was guilty of making too many changes to his starting XI for the EFL Cup debacle and is expected to field his strongest team for this game to secure all three points. After winning back-to-back games against Brighton and Wolves, Everton are yet to pick up all three points since their return from the international break.

There’s hardly a better opposition to turn things around against than Moyes’s former side, West Ham United. The Hammers have sacked their manager, Graham Potter, just days before the clash at Bramley-Moore Dock, replacing him with Nuno Espirito Santo. They’re languishing in the relegation zone after picking up just three points from their first five matches.

Everton vs West Ham: Team News and Predicted Starting XI

Everton Team News

The Toffees will be without two players for this clash. Jarrad Branthwaite, who suffered a hamstring injury at the start of the season, continues to recuperate on the sidelines and is yet to resume full training.

Meanwhile, Merlin Röhl, signed on Deadline Day, is also out injured since making his debut in the goalless draw with Aston Villa.

Everton predicted starting XI: Jordan Pickford (GK), Jake O’Brien, James Tarkowski, Michael Keane, Vitalii Mykolenko, Idrissa Gana Gueye, James Garner, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Iliman Ndiaye, Beto, Jack Grealish.

Our front two options are so lame, I would seriously be thinking of playing Ndiaye up front and Dibling on the right.

As always, dreading the new manager 'bounce'. We always seem to be so obliging.

Why be fearful of the effect of Nuno, cast your mind back to last season, when he was in charge at Forest we won 0 - 1, and ostensibly we have a stronger team now, minus Jarad Branthwaite of course.

3-1 with 3 new signings scoring and Grealish setting them all up.

And Moyes roared through the tunnel as he heads home to his estate on the west coast of the Wirral.

I have an Irish Kilt, Derek - listen to this - I wanted a "Quinn" tartan but it had been a one-off for a wedding, unavailable. So, I chose a Fitzgerald because it was blue-ish, and because I can now say "Whatever Fits me, Fitzgerald"! True...that is my name...

Gerry, I should be a Macfarlane, by association, but there was far too much red in it, so I plumped for a Mackenzie! Absolutely true my mate.

We have an annual event at my (Welsh) Golf Club, called the Wise Cup, where we are invited to play for either England, Wales, Scotland or Ireland. I naturally always play for Scotland. All are encouraged to wear anything associated with the country they are representing and playing for. I usually, weather permitting, wear a kilt, Scotland football top, and a tartan Tam O'Shanter with ginger wig attached. I appreciate this is not Everton related but felt I had to share.

If anyone (Eds) says anything, my plea, by way of mitigation, would be, well Gerry Quinn started it off, take care buddy ! :-)

Hugely annoying that Nuno has come in so quickly. It will mean a very different and more defensively solid setup than Potter would put out
.
That said, it's still a weak West Ham side -- keep Bowen quiet and we should have enough to win this.

Chris,

Nuno has had next to no time of imposing himself on his new players, possibly 2-3 hours at the most today. I reckon his plan will be to pack his defence and hopefully nick a point.

Agreed, Rob, that's sort of what I was alluding to in terms of 'defensively sound'.

Hopefully it'll be just enough time to confuse his new side! ;-p

Chris (14),

I think the problems of Everton are enough for most Everton fans to worry about at the moment, just let the rest of the world roll by for now.

We'll get round to them next week after Everton have beaten West Ham and Crystal Palace through the brilliant tactics of Davie boy — Hopefully!

Dave A, as you know I am never pessimistic, but I think Crystal Palace will not be an easy game, but being an Evertonian, I adopt the last remaining content of Pandora's Box - HOPE !

After a seemingly good start to the season, the last 2 defeats have somewhat damaged that optimism. I'm not very confident for this game either.

We still don't have Branthwaite and we are lacking good quality full-backs which can help us have a balanced squad.

19 Posted 29/09/2025 at 08:37:24
Can't argue with the starting XI, and that should have enough quality to have us at least a goal up by the middle of the 2nd half. The question then is: How will Moyes utilise the rest of the squad?

Will he bring on the likes of Dibling, Barry, Alcaraz to press home the advantage? In spite of their underwhelming performances so far in the season, will Moyes give a run-out to the likes of Iroegbunam, McNeil, Patterson, etc?

I hope he does because otherwise, it would be a waste of money to have spent so much on squad depth without keeping players ready enough to play when the inevitable injuries and suspensions start creeping up.

Every time we have one of these damned international breaks, our form always seems to suffer on return to league action. It's something I've noticed over the years. Am I the only one who hates these breaks?

To me, all they do is break up the momentum when the team is playing well and it can take a while to get back to the form we were in before the break.

Kevin Molloy
21 Posted 29/09/2025 at 11:23:46
Yes, what a shock, the worst team in the league change manager just before it's our turn to collect 3 points. So they will try and frustrate us tonight, and it could be tricky if we don't score early, as some of our fans seem to expect West Ham should be just swatted aside like a fly.

I'm not sure why they would think this given how we've been for the last decade, but there we are. The good news is West Ham don't have much of a defence, and Miserable Arse will have had them for one training session at most.

Raymond Fox
22 Posted 29/09/2025 at 12:05:48
Why does it seem like we often play a team who have just brought in a new manager who will probably lift their performance?

Let's face it: we are not a very good team, we are pieced up at the back and a bit powder puff up front. Maybe I'm being a tad harsh... but it's a fair description, I think.

The betting is Everton 4/6, West Ham 9/2, Draw 3/1, so the neutral view is we are the likely winners which isn't really a surprise. I also think we are the likely winner but it's our lack of bite up front that is a worry.

23 Posted 29/09/2025 at 12:36:47
I would be confident that we would win this game if Moyes stopped worrying about the opposition all the time. Just concentrate on inspiring our players to the victory for once.

We are far too cagey because of his approach.

Jake FitzGerald
24 Posted 29/09/2025 at 12:48:03
Nuno will have them all behind the ball, but they have a really slow defence, slower even than us.

This is a match that cries out for Ndiaye to be our spearhead in attack; I doubt Moyes would do it though. Bowen is good on the break, so we need to be on his toes throughout.

I would love to see us flying out of the traps early on and getting a goal to settle nerves, but it'll be a scrappy Keane header late on to decide it.

I personally think you need a focal point vs West Ham. First goal scorer will be key, so starting with no centre-forward, for me, is an unnecessary risk.

If Dibling had been sensational in the games, fair enough. But he's been more steady than anything else.

On paper that's our best XI with Branthwaite still out.

Nervous about this game. We all know that a manager, team or striker who is struggling will get their act together against us.

I just hope the crowd are up for it and we can make the Hill Dickinson a fortress. Lose tonight and 3 consecutive defeats would put a lot of pressure on Moyes.

I always feel that there are 50% of Moyes advocates and 50% who never thought he should have been brought back. A run of good results or bad results gets the other side taking to ToffeeWeb to air their views. To be fair to Moyes, he used to be good at ending losing streaks and turning it around.

Whoever starts up front needs to at least put themselves about a bit. I thought Beto looked lazy in the derby and Barry was just ambling about against Wolves.

“Not confident about this game”…….”Nervous about this game”………..

For fuck sake, if nobody can be confident about beating this shower of shite tonight, then seriously I think you need to take up something else to occupy your mind! Try knitting or basket weaving or something like that!

Seriously, if nobody can be confident about beating these, what hope do you have for the rest of the season?

Christy Ring
31 Posted 29/09/2025 at 14:51:20
Moyes will definitely have the players up for the game tonight, especially with Sullivan in charge.

I wouldn't mind seeing Dibling on the wing and Ndiaye upfront.

Dale Self

They responded after Leeds and will likely rebound tonight.

We need to develop some confidence without giving Glasner too much to analyze.

Craig Walker
34 Posted 29/09/2025 at 15:23:07
Rob, I love your optimism but Wolves were a shower before we turned up. As were Southampton last season when they beat us and then dumped us out of the Carabao. As were Luton Town the season before.

I couldn't count how many times a team needed a confidence boost and got it against us. Similarly with misfiring strikers that haven't scored and then they face Everton. Josh King when he played for Watford comes to mind.

I hope you're right. I hope we put on a performance and, we should do with the team we've got but Everton never do things the easy way do they?

Paul Kossoff
35 Posted 29/09/2025 at 15:47:14
I've been calling for Beto to be dropped and Ndiaye to play central, but the drawback as far as Moyes goes is Pickford booting long balls up is out. Barry is no better than Beto and doesn't have his pace and calls for him to be given more game time, well we are four points from the Bottom 3, it can all turn sour quite quickly.

We can't keep playing Beto and Barry thinking they are the answer to goals scored, play one, take him off, bring on the other, then what? If Beto and Barry are Plan A and Plan B, we need a Plan C because they ain't working.

A false nine plan is what's needed meaning anyone fills the vacant striker roll, confuses the opposition's defence, as more difficult to pick up. Moyes must try something different, not necessarily tonight, but if things don't go according to plan against the Hammers, then it's back to the drawing board.

38 Posted 29/09/2025 at 16:06:53
This is why Moyes is cautious with his introduction of new players, they only need to be given one or two starts and, if they aren't scoring, then they get dismissed as rubbish.

To my mind, Barry has had one mediocre game (first half against Wolves) and already the knives are out. The same will happen with Dibling, we just need to calm the fuck down, and let the professionals get on with their job.

What is clear from the new season is that most teams are capable of giving other teams a run for their money, no easy games, so let's just take each one as it comes and try and enjoy it.

Ndiaye and Garner can run the game in midfield tonight and Grealish can continue his assist rate.

Ged Simpson
47 Posted 29/09/2025 at 17:37:45
Totally agree, John 46. Some great teams don't rely on traditional centre-forwards. Some of the best goal scorers are smaller but fast and supplied by equally fast teammates.

Fast? A learning curve for Moyes but some parts of team quicker.

I wonder what owners want... apart from obvious dosh.

Robert Tressell
48 Posted 29/09/2025 at 17:55:48
Come on, Everton. Personally, I hope to see more minutes for Barry as he won't improve on the bench.

Ndiaye, Grealish and Dewsbury-Hall can create chances with Dibling getting more minutes too hopefully.

Martin Farrington
49 Posted 29/09/2025 at 18:01:06
Beto and Barry have had next to nothing to feed off. Maybe one chance per match dotted with having to adapt for the infrequent wayward cross to try and produce something.
God knows what the tactics are other than hoof and hope.
Moyes has no idea how to set up a free scoring team, let alone a side with virtually no scorers in it.

Can we beat West Ham, of course. Will we beat West Ham?
Everton, renowned bottlers and fail to shows, particularly on occasions where they are the focus, are not known for taking the bull by the horns. MNF, I tried to find out online what the stats for us are, but Google said No.

From memory we have always been shit on a Monday night.
But with Jack in the side, he may inspire. That is if Moyes doesn't deploy the RNS & Wolves instructions. I am hoping and thinking we will do it but previous is very much against it.

Let's turn a corner, for once, Everton.

Robert Williams
50 Posted 29/09/2025 at 18:06:52
With Jack in the side, the opposition seem to be putting 2/3 on him now, same with Ndiaye...

That should leave others free to fill their boots, eh?

Morning all, waiting for daybreak before venturing out of my pit... so thought I would catch up on news of the match on the BBC website, after all it's the only game being played.

Except there wasn't even an acknowledgement of it anywhere on the football section. Nada, zilch.. if you didn't know there was a game on, well you would never know.

The best league in the world yet insignificant to the Beeb... rather sums up the Premier League, unless you are a Top 6 or playing a Top 6 team, you're not worth space or a mention.

But tonight is important because it gives us the chance to solidify our movement back up the table, not spectacular I know, but still a base to build on. The Everton yo-yo effect, never the same performance twice, has to be overcome.

Incremental improvements may not be enough to stop the hunger for success but it's the bare minimum of acceptance. I hope the selection by Moyes shows intent and that it's backed up with passion by the players. Come on, you Blues!

Ian Bennett

I seem to recall a decent record on a Monday. Certainly well better than the 2pm snooze festival in a Sunday after a roast.

This is what AI reckons. Usual terms and conditions apply.

Everton has played 155 Premier League games on a Monday and has a record of 60 wins. This gives them a win percentage of 48.85% on Mondays, which is the fourth best record in the Premier League.

Their next game is tonight, Monday, 29 September 2025, against West Ham United at 7:00 PM UTC in the Premier League.
