Everton Women suffered a disappointing 4-1 loss against Manchester United in their first-ever match at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday.

Honoka Hayashi became the first woman to score at the waterfront venue as a crowd of 18,154 celebrated the moment just after the first quarter. But what was a historic day for the Blues turned bittersweet as one of their former players, Jess Park, stole the show in the dying stages.

Despite Hayashi’s opener, the Blues were unable to hold on to the lead. Brian Sorensen’s side completely collapsed in the second half as Manchester United came roaring back.

Melvine Malard restored parity just after the hour mark, while an unfortunate own goal from Hikaru Kitagawa gave the visitors the lead. Jess Park scored twice in the space of five minutes late in the game to put Everton out of their misery.

Sorensen’s side are still searching for their first win since their opening-day demolition of Liverpool at the Anfield derby. They’ve lost four of their last five games and are currently 10th in the table with just four points.

Everton’s start to the match was slow as they allowed the visitors to carve out several big chances inside the first 10 minutes. Lisa Naalsund clipped an effort over the crossbar while Elisabeth Terland surprisingly headed wide from around two yards out. Fridolina Rolfö also tested the side netting during the opening stages.

The hosts capitalised on United’s squandered chances by taking the lead on the scoreboard soon after. Hayashi poked home after Yuka Momiki’s free-kick into the box fell to her path to score the first Women’s Super League goal at Bramley-Moore Dock.

Manchester United took control of the game once again with the introduction of Park from the bench. Malard raced on to Hinata Miyazawa’s through ball and scored on the rebound to cancel out Everton’s opener.

Malard also forced the second goal as her pressure on Kitagawa led the 28-year-old defender to inadvertently scuff the clearance into her own net.

Jess Park then took charge of the game in the final 10 minutes. She doubled the visitors’ advantage with a low, deflected shot past Ramsey and found the bottom corner from outside the box just a minute before the end to secure all three points.

Everton will now turn their attention towards Nottingham Forest in the second matchday of the Women’s League Cup at Goodison Park.

Feel sorry, just a bit, for them.

Hope they haven't jinxed our new home!

"An unfortunate own goal from Hikaru Kitagawa"?

Jeeees, I've seen some amateurs in my time but that woman, who is somehow called a professional, takes the cake. Not wanting to use her weaker foot, she decides the best thing to do is swivel round to her left foot and hook the ball the way she is facing. Unfortunately for her, she was facing her own goal. (I thought it was only the men who were one footed.)

Was she the same one that caused the two goals against London City Lionesses with even more amatuer play? Professional in name only, and they want equal pay?😁

Here's wishing the gals more luck at Goodison Park. At least we netted first. Women's games should end after 60 minutes anyway, so a much better scoreline for us too.

In tennis, they only play two-thirds of what the men do.
So why are the footy ladies so overworked? It's a disgrace.

Looking at the photo above, it's clear that the Man Utd team were a lot bigger than our Ladies.

A good big un will always beat a good little un.

I watched the 2nd half and Everton were simply awful with many of the players looking clueless.

Peter 3.

"So why are the footy ladies so overworked? It's a disgrace."

Football by it's a team sport is probably one of the easiest games for women to play. I watched the Everton game and watched players who never actually broke into a sprint, most of them stood still, or walked.

Any team game is less stress on the body than say, tennis or boxing.

Women's football, less so in men's have women who have literally no skill whatsoever. If they can't walk round for 45 minutes and then a 15-minute break then heaven help them when they are having a baby.

It's not the fitness they lack, but the skill set. But I agree with reducing the time to say 30 minutes per half, even 25 minutes, also make the ball lighter and smaller and no offsides. A hybrid version of the men's game would make it different enough and more entertaining.

Trying to compete with the men's game is a non-starter, a shorter play time could let the women's game be played before the men's at the stadiums, giving the women's game a higher profile instead of them playing to poor crowds.

Paul 2: Kitagawa didn't play v London City Lionesses. You're thinking of Number 3 Ishikawa who was also poor v Juventus.

Phil 4: Agreed. Everton's team is far too small, eg, Momiki is only 5 foot.

Paul 24: The women's match before the men's match - definitely not. If that happened then the women will demand equal pay with the men like they've achieved in tennis at Wimbledon.

Our goalie made some good saves but she needs to copy Pickford's distribution. She was the reason why her team couldn't get out of their own half.

Now that the Everton Women are officially not part of Everton FC, can they please go back to calling themselves Leasowe Pacific?... Every time I watch them they are an embarrassment.

Nine new players, and they are actually worse than last season.
