England U21s 2 - 0 Ireland U21s

Former Everton player and England manager Lee Carsley gave Tyler Dibling just 15 minutes to show off his England credentials last night at St Andrew's in Birmingham.

England's Under-21s maintained their 100% record in Euro 2027 qualifying with a 2-0 victory against Ireland in a game that saw Thierry Small, formerly of Everton Academy, make his long-awaited debut at this level.

David Moyes has studiously avoided exposing his current £42M youngster to the risks and rigours of the Premier League, with Dibling getting just 62 minutes of top-flight football to his name since signing with great fanfare from Southampton in August.

Lee Carsley's treatment of the youngster follows similar lines with Chelsea prodigy Tyrique George starting in Dibing's right-wing spot — and scoring the second goal to seal England's win.

George's performance further weakens Dibling’s case for selection, but he did get on the pitch with 15 minutes to go. However, he completed just one pass from a possible three, with two in the opposition half being to an Ireland player.

One attempted dribble was not completed and his only cross was unsuccessful. After performing below-par as a substitute in this game, Dibling will need to up his game substantially with David Moyes suggesting that he will be expected to replace Iliman Ndiaye when the Senegalese maestro goes off to Afcon over the Christmas period.

That is bloody shocking really... I mean, 15 minutes is pathetic, and he does bugger all to impress.

It's seriously looking rather like we've been sold a pup, for one helluva lotta mullah!

Paul,

I have to agree. He thinks he’s made it and I believe he’s not a good trainer.

Yeah it was a strange acquisition. No other bidders. Potential but no more than that for a hefty part of our transfer budget.

My Saints supporting part of the family were thrilled with the fee and questioned our recruitment. He doesn't work hard enough in their view.

I think Moyes wanted immediate contributors and he got future potential. I hope in years to come he proves me wrong but I fear not.

Everton's immense scouting network must ask serious questions?

“Is he good at training?” -- “No comment”

“Let's buy him; would you accept £42M for him?” -- “Yes!”

I'm not dismissing this lad so early. But I had big reservations about signing him in the summer.

We needed a Premier League ready player when we signed a right winger. He clearly isn't that.

Ian #3, similarly my Saints supporting mate thought he's not worth more than £4 million.

He's a young lad, and a terrifically talented footballer. Moyes wouldn't play Coleman for ages when he was a youth.

Dibling needs to be getting minutes, and he needs patience from us all. He will make mistakes and it's all part of development.

Sometimes, I read a thread and think, "Why would any young player want to come to this club?"

This time last year on these pages, all I read was what a terrible waste of money Jake O'Brien was from people who had never seen him play — all because a manager didn't pick him.

Now we have character assassinations for Aznou and Dibling based on very little evidence. The same people who were reading quotes from the manager on how well he was training have cottoned on to the quotes that he picked McNeil because he was training well.

I have no idea how the lad is training but I know that he's not playing, Alcaraz is not playing, Aznou is not playing, Armstrong -- our best midfielder in preseason -- is out on loan. In any situation where the manager has to choose between experience and youth, he goes with the former.

Tyrique George has gotten the nod ahead of him. With all the talents Chelsea have got, their manager has managed to give him double the Premier League minutes of Dibling. He has had over 3 halves of Champions League football and two EFL cup games. He also played in the Club World Cup, I think.

He is fit, on form and motivated to play more minutes because he knows it is up to him. Obviously he is going to be picked by Carsley ahead of Dibling in this moment.

The Southampton fans who reckon he is worth about £4M need to have a look at how they're performing without him against the likes of Wrexham when, this time last year, he was causing our neighbours and Man Utd all sorts of problems.

I am delighted with this signing, and have no doubts that he will be a success here.
