Everton will be without the services of midfielder Merlin Röhl when they face Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday.

Röhl, signed from German outfit SC Freiburg on an initial loan deal this summer, will be out for a few weeks after he underwent a minor operation on a hernia issue following the 2-0 win over Fulham.

"Unfortunately, Merlin had an operation a week last Monday on his hernia. It's going to keep him out for a few weeks,” David Moyes said in the pre-match press conference.

"Hopefully by the time we get around to December, he'll be fit and ready to go again."

The 23-year-old midfielder joins centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite in the treatment room after the latter underwent hamstring surgery last month. Nathan Patterson remains out with a foot and groin issue as well.

He'll be missed. Perhaps weve been guilty of playing him too much and causing this injury.

Mike@3. We can't, it's a loan with obligation to buy.

The set-up at Everton never learn, do they?

Did they not check his injury record last season?

Her we go again, the doom mongers and naysayers!

We have a player, 23, who is adjusting to the Premier League, the most rigorous in the world, and already you are sticking it in because he has picked up an injury. Your verdict? he is suddenly a crock!

Comments 1-5 -- you're all ridiculous!! I said it when he first signed for Everton, and I will say it again: we paid £100M less than the dark side did for their German player and signed a better player, more suited to the Premier League.

Mark my words, this lad is an absolute bargain! Judge him at the end of the season... if you have any patience?

Martin, I would much x10 want Wirtz ahead of Rohl who has a history of injury (mind you, Wirtz picked up a muscle injury today).

Wirtz would be terrific in our team right now and would be better able to express himself unlike in the shite side where big money 'stars' have to be played and run into each other and look like discombobulated twats and hard-boiled Slotty has to make 5 subs a game to please his cast of the entitled divas.

Anyone who would take Rohl over Wirtz at this point in time is in your word Martin 'ridiculous'.

Rohl is only 23, if he was a 30-year-old with a line of injuries, I could understand the negativity.

Give the lad a break and not a physical one. He is going to be a great player when he settles into the Premier League.

Finally, remember Peter Reid, no one had more injuries than him, he turned out to be rather special didn't he!
