Ashley Willliams... Everton Pundit Alert!

I vauguely remember him playing for us a few years back...

Williams was unable to maintain any consistent form, however, and he betrayed a suspect attitude at times, none more so than when he was sent off at Burnley in March 2018 as the Blues gave up a 1-0 lead and lost 2-1. It was to be his last competitive match in an Everton jersey as he was loaned to Stoke City for the final year of his contract that August and then released as a free agent in the summer of 2019.

Oh dear, sounds like bit of a flop.

I think Alcaraz was slightly more disappointing.

He did come through for us in a small run of matches but then an own goal seemed to destroy his confidence.

I'd have Thomas Frank at Everton.

But we need to sort out the whole recruitment process… which I think is 50% the problem.

South Korea seem to be playing like a Moyes team on an average day -- no shots on goal after 80 minutes...

Mexico only a little better, but edging it 1-0 after a mistake by Korea.

The standard of refereeing at the World Cup does show how poor it is in England and considering the Premier League said some years ago that it was working to improve the standard, unless they think that is what VAR is doing.

Also, is it the coaching they get but the number of goalkeepers doing the splits and mostly before any shot is made rather than crouching forward so that their hands are lower and in a position that would assist in leaping for higher shots.

Usually the World Cup comes up with some novel free kicks but I've yet to see any and it surprises me that most have only the taker near the ball when there seems a lot of empty space on both sides of the taker which might drag defenders out making the penalty area a little less crowded or even have somebody running off the front of the defensive wall to play a 1-2 return pass with the taker with a third player running wide around the wall.
