 SEPTEMBER 1999

  • Sept 5: Tabloid talk of a mass walkout by the Manager and Board at Everton has been rightly ridiculed by the Club. It will simply plunge Everton into the leaderless chaos created by the power vacuum... Hang on – we're there already!

  • Sept 5: Talk of a mass walkout by the Manager and Board at Everton seems a ridiculous way to force Johnson's hand. It will simply plunge the Club into leaderless chaos amidst a management vacuum... Hang on – we're there already!

  • Sept 4: A certain defender by the name of Slaven Bilic featured in Croatia's 1-0 win over Ireland in Zagreb tonight. So he's obviously fit – just rejected by our Wally while he continues to draw his wages...  Mark Pembridge played his part in a key Welsh victory, 2-1 in Belarus. Everton's players were also pivotal in the 2-1 win Scotland secured over Belarus. Weir, Collins, and Hutchison started, with Scot Gemmill on the bench, and Hutch scoring the opener following good work from Collins. In the FA Premier Youth Academy League, Everton's Under-19s were held to a 1-1 draw today at Barnsley. Full Report.

  • Sept 3: Although Bill Kenwright has secured £30M in finance and made his bid – thanks in part to Spurs fan Peter Green – Peter Johnson is refusing to acknowledge Kenwright's bid, and apparently has no intention of selling Everton to him. Everton have secured the transfer of Abel Xavier, the 26-year-old Portuguese International who plays either in defence or midfield, for £1.5M from PSV Eindhoven. Michael Ball and Francis Jeffers both started for England U-21s v Luxembourg tonight, where Franny scored the second of 5 English goals. Richard Dunne blotted his copybook again for the Irish U-21 side as they crashed 5-1 to Croatia in Zagreb tonight. Dunne was sent off for hacking down a Croat as he headed for goal, 3 mins before half-time.

  • Sept 2: Today sees the deadline supposedly imposed by Peter Johnson for the receipt of bids for his stake in Everton. Is Kenwright's still in there? Or will the Investors in Everton be successful in their bold co-operative plan? Or will Peter Johnson flip them off again, by denying there ever was a deadline?

  • Sept 1: Tony Grant has gone out on loan to Tranmere Rovers until 4 October, with full approval of the relevant authorities. Transfer-listed striker Michael Branch is facing two weeks on the sidelines after tweaking his hamstring in the reserves 2-2 draw with Bradford City on Tuesday.
