Great stuff ken.

Interesting, what do you all think about the "race for fourth". Of the 4 it would seemingly be hardest for us because of the extra games. Villa and City don't have Europe on the menu, while Liverpool do but have a massive squad and a crucial game in hand.

Maybe its too early to talk, maybe we should just keep ticking over and stay in touch.

Can't wait for Wednesday now though!!

Another great report Ken. I thought yesterday was one of the wins of the season. With so many players out and the thinnest bench we have had all season, we did exceptionally well to beat Sven on tactics and organisation. The remaining games look a little tougher for us than for either Villa or Liverpool, but we have exceeded my expectations so far this year, so let’s see what happens.

Keep the reports coming. COYB!

Full credit to yourselves yesterday and with Liverpool dropping points it really opens up the 4th spot (with Villa included as well) - but Liverpool still look to have too much for me than either of ourselves over the course of the season.

With the players you had out you were more than happy to let us have possession but as soon as we got into the final third we came unstuck through a mixture of good defending and a lack of presence up front from ourselves.

A good win for you guys though and sets the return up well in a few weeks time.

Just about the way I saw it Ken. but I so wish you hadn't resisted the temptation to name Tony Hibbert as MotM
This lads been put through the ringer by so many Evertonians ? me included ? this season, but his brilliant tackling and Blocks stopped the supply line to the City strikers all afternoon, lets give credit where its due, Hibbo was outstanding yesterday

I agree with Richard, a well written report and accurate ? makes a change from when I scan the Sunday papers and wonder if I?d actually been to the same game as the reporter or if the hack had gleaned his report from watching 2 minutes of MOTD!

I too have to praise Hibbo for yesterday?s performance, Petrov was the one player I was very wary of but happily he was given nothing. I?ll bet he won?t be looking forward to their next encounter.

I?d also like to give a mention to Joleon, he is a legend in the making. If you could take the best attributes of Dave Watson, Ratters and Degsy mountfield and put them in one player then that's where he?s heading . A bit over the top ???? We?ll see.....

A great win, and a professional win. Listening to City FM it seemed we were constantly getting battered, but watching it on Sky last night it wasn?t the case.

One shot on goal by City and that was late on.

Well defended, well taken goal. Great 3 points.

@ Danny Pugsley

This is one of the most intelligent, sensible and well-written articles I have ever read on a fan or blogsite.

It's a complete contrast with the shit Chelsea published on their site.

Good Luck to City for the rest of the season

Totally delighted with the result yesterday, there’s a definate upwards trend the club is moving in the direction of and like most of us i’m made up! Citeh had just one strike at goal that had the ol’ heart in the mouth near the end but apart from that it was a piece o’ cake in my opinion - week by week we’re improving and i’m delighted. I really think we’ve a great chance for 4th because the RS are lookin’ a bit wounded to say the least. Roll on Chelsea! :)

Thanks Ken; as a 70-year-old exile who doesn?t get to Goodison Park very often, I really do appreciate your views and comments. Hope you keep them coming, especially this season. Having been there since the golden days it is so good to see us on the up again. COYB!!!

having watched neville again in midfield ive decided this man cudnt pass water 80% of his passes are to knowone just a hoof into space surely the time as come to either play as a right back or put his arse on the bench, we know hes full of passion and comittment but that doesnt make you a midfield player ? to end on how about spending a few bob [if we have any] on lita from reading could be just the cover were looking for ??

Excellent article from Ken which contains his usual considered reflection. I think the team as a whole are defending well and Vaughan led from the front in both senses of the word. Special mention is dispatches should go to Hibbert who has really upped his game in recent games,

However, I feel that there is an underlying defensive weakness and that is the reluctance of Howard to dominate his 6-yard box, nevermind the 18-yard box. Although he is a terrific shot-stopper, you can see the defenders look to one another (and Howard) in the danger areas. Surely, this should be ironed out on the training pitch. Before the games, he looks wholly confident in the warm up; unfortunately in the game he tends to stay on the line and we paid the price in both the Chelsea and Arsenal games.

i have to say i think thst vaughan and anichebe looked the real deal and disagree with ken on that point and the game certainly changed for the better when vaughan came on

Very good article Ken, and I think a very good win for the Blues given the injuries/African Nations. However, a top 4 finish, IMHO could be down to 3 games. Man City away, tough but a win is possible, beat the RS in a game we all know we can win, and then Villa at home has got to be 3 points. If we want 4th place (or higher!!!!!), we can’t afford to lose these.

Loads of match reports this season have commented on how Moyes needed to respond as the team was getting pinned down in their own half. He then brings on a striker to great effect. Attack, after all, is the best form of defence. To me, it shows just the sort of tactical lateral thinking needed by the manager and the extent to which the likes of Vaughan and Anichebe are developing into the finished article. Excellent stuff!

1. At last! Hit the bar, win a car- ace!

2. Lescott finishing with the coolness of Muller (how good can big Jo get?)

3. If our 'away' support can be so good, how come it's so quiet at Goodison until summat happens? Why don't the 'away' lads sit together an get it going? Surely a singing section would improve things? Or has the influx of women (who dont sing) made people more 'conscious'?

4. Why do they always run out of pies? an why arent the Changs lined up for fans ready for half-time?

5. Why cant Hibbo play like that every week?

6. Is McFadden playing for a move? If he is, shouldnt he try actually 'running' a little bit?

7. How good is Vaughany gonna be? (when he can last a full match, i think we've got a cracker there)

8. 38 thousand? are Everton up to some 'massaging' of the figures?

9. Do Man City still think they are in the 2nd division? Whats the balloons and chants of 'shall we sing for you' about? Beauts.

10. I thought Halsey was supposed to be one of the 'better' referee's? Not on that showing he wasn't, or maybe the ref's have been 'told' to be more lenient recently?

I thought the game was a very tactical game with both teams trying to nullify each others strengths. City largely succeded in that Cahill had very few attempts at goal. Like Ken, I also has Tony Hibbert as my man of the match for the way he kept the dangerous Petrov reasonably quiet.

Great article Ken. Hibbo was excellent on Saturday doing what he does best - defending. Cracking 3 points and another great defensive show in the second half. Manny must be chuffed to be back to this great team. I welcome him. Up the blues
