Bily helps Russia into Euro2012

11/10/2011 |  13 Comments: First  |  Last
Diniyar Bilyaletdinov helped Russia book their place at next year's European Championship Finals when he scored one of his country's six goals in a 6-0 rout of Andorra that put them top of Group B head of Ireland.

Seamus Coleman was an unused sub for the Irish who beat Armenia 2-1 to secure a place in the playoffs for next summer's tournament.

But Marouane Fellaini won't be involved — his goal four minutes from time for Belgium was a mere consolation in a 3-1 defeat to Germany.

Jan Mucha and Slovakia were already out of contention after they lost to Russia 1-0 last Friday.

Bily played centre mid when he came on & scored.

It's been far too long since he should have been played in there for us.

He did ok against no-marks Man Utd too.

Playing players in their most suited positions isn't rocket science....is it??

Rodwell at right wing? Neville, Heitinga or Jags in midfield? Cahill as the sole striker? Bily on either wing?

Maybe it is rocket science, or perhaps Moyes knows something the Russians don't.

I don't subscribe to this Moyes hating about players out of position..

When you have the smallest squad in the PL you are going to have to from time to time play people out of position.

Further, if Moyes hadn't played Coleman 'out of position' we wouldn't have realised what a good winger he was.

I do however, think Bily's attributes lend themselves better to 'the hole' as he has; vision, long shooting, slide rule passing ability and the ability to manufacture space for a shot.. He's certainly not mobile enough to live out wide.

He was 'sold' to Moyesie, allegedly by no-less a football authority than Guus Hiddink, as a left-sided winger and Moyes himself started the parallels with Sheedy when Bilyaletdinov had a pretty decent debut for us.

Dont know about any of you lot but if Guus Hiddink, on the level, says the lad is a left winger then I'd have taken that at face value. For me you have dreams about winning the lottery and then there are those, far better, ones where Hiddink is managing Everton!.

Could Bilyaletdinov be better used in the hole just off a lone-striker. Drenthe coming in certainly frees him of any left-sided responsibilities and he doesnt track back so leaving him wandering about up the pitch aimlessly like he does wont leave anyone especially exposed (as he has done to Bainsey a few times) .

I think he's going to have to wait until Cahill gets himself sidelined before that is a real possibility though. Even then Moyes might like Fellaini for that slot over Billy?. Certainly, if he does get his chance up there, he's going to have to put a dmansight more effort into beating a man and finding space than I've seen him do of late if he expects to keep a place.

If there is a goodish offer on the table, the manager/club should just sell Billy and put him out of his misery. Given how little he has played the manager obviuosly does not rate him so what's the point in keeping him on the books?

If he is good enough to get into the Russian side then I would assume we could flog him to one of the Moscow clubs or the one that's run by the billionaire where Eto went to. If he doesn't go in Jan, hopefully he has a great showing in the Euros and we can sell him then - although by then I think he'll only have about a year left on his contract.

Recover as much of the 9m as possible and move on. Just a waste for both player and club for him to be constantly on the bench coming on for his token 5 minute work permit apperance. Ranks up there with Shandy Andy and Per Koldrup as one of the managers' worst buys in relation to value for money.

I agree with Denis, seems to be a waste becuse Moyes does not know how to use him, so he should sell him and buy adonovan instead.

@Denis7 couldnt agree more mate. Are we really going to talk again about Bily's effectivness just because he came on and scored against no mark opposition from 'the hole'. His touch is awful, has no pace, and no agression. Oh and he cant pass a ball either. So how would moving him inside into a crowded midfield benefit a lad who needs at least 20 yards of space to play in to be effective? He would get smashed within 5 mins and then go missing. If you ask me his best position is out wide away from the congested middle of the park, and i think Moyes knows this too. Been here 2 years and is just not good enough and thats it!

Is everybody aware that far from playing just behind the front man and running the entire game he actually came on for less than 20 minutes? Against Andorra?

He can't get a game for Russia, we would clearly be willing to sell him but nobody's interested, and as stated above he was signed specifically as a left sided player. There are a number of valid criticisms of Moyes but his not playing Bily 'in the hole' is not one of them.

Jimmy ? not playing him in the hole may not be a valid criticism but he was still bought by the manager for £9m when we were skint. Hiddink recommendation or not, simple scouting would have been a good idea.

Think pro- and anti-Moyes Everton fans can at least all agree that this was a crap transfer for both sides (contract cash aside) and we should just flog him for what we can get as the manager does not rate him (which was pretty clear soon after he came to us).

By the way, he does get a game for Russia as he regularly makes the squad and has about 45 caps ffs). Given this I would be amazed if a Russian club did not want him ? I just think either a) he doesn't want to go; or b) the club are holding out for more cash. I truly hope its not the latter as after this season he'll only have one more year left on his contract! I.e. we'll lose him for fuck all or on a free.

As I said Denis, there are valid criticisms of Moyes - personally I believe the signing Bily and Heitinga with the Lescott money is the biggest of the lot.

Of course he gets a game, I was speaking generally, like people who say that Barkley and Vellios and Drenthe and Stracqualursi and everyone else who's always in our squad 'don't get a game'.

I would be very surprised if he's happy to be a peripheral player for us rather than move somewhere to play and potentially be paid more, and even more surprised if we had turned down a bid of anything around £4m or more. My conclusion from that is that nobody wants him.
