Dier heads back to Portugal

Promising defensive prospect Eric Dier has decided to return to Sporting rather than extend his time at Everton as he believes he has more chance of seeing first-team action in Lisbon.

The 18-year-old England youth international has spent two loan spells with the Blues and it was hoped that he would eventually sign a permanent contract at Goodison.

David Moyes is quoted by O Jogo newspaper as saying: "We wanted him to stay with us... we knew he wanted to be in the first team, even though there would be little chance.

"Maybe [coach Ricardo] Sa Pinto and Sporting have other plans for him."
